The (what I'm presuming to be a cypher) scrolling across the screen is really cool. It kind of reminds me of the opening credits for Ghost in the Shell and the Matrix!
What a fantastic introduction to the Cybermen! Eerie and suspenseful. Now this is when sci-fi shows were based on classic sci-fi! Imagination, mystery, and horror all rolled into one. Paced like classic horror movies, these things slowly build up to moments of genuine fright. Even the two astronauts plight being stuck in space is a frightening concept. Awesome. It's episodes like this that are what made Doctor Who a classic from the 60s-80s. I miss old school sci-fi!
doctor who cybermen land on earth in 1986 in this story! strange! star trek: the next generation introduces the borg in the late 1980's! / @ milwaukee
@BossRoss999 Well they're more frightening than the modern version and their evil is better defined too in terms of their uncaring attitude towards life.
You don't need to spend a ton of money on Doctor Who enemies. The Daleks and the Cybermen are quite good, and they don't look like a lot of money has been spent on them.
The old cybermen are the best by the way you can check out a beanie babie version at chmovies inc the episode beanie who reserection of the cyber mice however im sorry but part 3 is not yet out
@CHMovieINC nothing old or new about them. They are called Modus Cybermen and the new version of them in the new series of dr who are called Cybus Cybermen from an alternative earth.
@campgalore The best villian ever! Scared me shitless when I first saw this episode several years ago here. I am re-watching these episodes to pass the winter months.
I agree with you. Peter Hawkins and Roy Skelton have always been my favourite Dalek voice actors, but having them do the Cybermen as well is fantastic. Shame we won't hear Roy until 1967 for "The Evil of the Daleks", but Peter did the Cyber voices for "The Moonbase and "The Tomb of the Cybermen", and I'm glad Roy came back to work with him for "The Wheel in Space".
Thanks for posting these episodes. I remember watching a few episodes growing up in the 80s when PBS showed the episodes with Tom Baker. Never got into it though until the new series that came to the Sci-Fi Channel. Nice to be able to try and see the whole series from the 60s to now.
I would have yelled IDENTIFY OR BE EXTERMINATED! instead of WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?

Doesn't the 6th doctor meet the cybermen in 1986 too?
bodybwan2be1 9 months ago
@bodybwan2be1 in 1985. The Cybermen wish to use Halley's Comet to destroy the Earth before Mondas is destroyed. Timey-wimey as the new series says!

To me, part of what makes this so scary is the blizzard. A snowstorm really emphasizes the whole notion of being cut off from the world.
They have nowhere to run to, and help won't be coming anytime soon.
