But LA, where MGM was located, was frequently smoggy, and much of California undergoes a wet season and a dry season.

Thematically, this is distinctly different from 'One Cab's Family'. While the CARtoon deals with a proud father struggling to cope with his son's independence & free will, this one is about the older generation's struggle to find a place in an evolving world, & to accept that that progress is really for the best.
