  • @merse2007 she's talking to females who hold on to too much "baggage" like there are a lot of girls who gossip a lot, try to hard to be someone else, always tryna be pretty or lose weight that's why they were reading the books in the vid. What she saying is if it's not something that gets u through life it's "baggage" "BAG lady" that's why she said the line "you gon miss your bus, cuz u got too much stuff" u got so many other things u worrin about, ur never gonna get 2 where u need to b in life

  • @WiseCire thats fo damn sho.... she keeps it. Not only that but she's trying to tell you to learn from the past, and avoid living in the past.

  • i played this song the day after me and my ex met for the 1st time. I told her to let go of the old bags... she didnt...

  • Need to hear some Erykah Badu...always gets me through

  • That's just saying people of all classes should relate to this song. Let go of the things that hold you down and move on with life.

  • when she puts the sign up too black i believe she's talking to a specific person

  • I don't understand the "too black" bit at the end of the interlude. I mean, I get that she's being sarcastic with the sign, but how on earth could that interlude be viewed as "too black"?

  • @ciararavenblaze If you look back at that bit, and think about it.. They "Were" wearing all black, with colored bags.. Therefore, i'm guessing that's "too much black". So they go back to being colored. That's my theory. lol

  • i love erykah badu !

  • xxplosive.....west coast shit...

  • lol 1:15 to 1:17 I think she's laughing because she clocked the two women next to her upside the head with her hair. Used to love groovin to this song

  • All we need is white and gray and brown and we'd have the "colors" for all the characters in "For Colored Girls..." :)

  • "Bag Lady you gon hurt ya back dragging all them bags like

that. I guess nobody ever told you, oh you must hold on to,

is you, is you, is you?

One day all them bags gon get in your way (...)

    PACK LIGHT. Who? who?

Bag Lady you gon miss ya bus, cause you can't hurry up,

cause you got too much stuff. When they see you coming,

They just take off running. Its true, Its true oh yes they

    do.

One day he go say you crowdin my space (..)

  • aww, the baby at the end is soo cute! 4:04

    beautiful

  • @canelizbermo1188 YES WE R!!:)

  • I love this song so much.

  • pack light! ooh hoo

  • Yall see that quick commentary on soul food.

  • Does anybody know what the colors of the womens' dresses represent? I remember someone telling me in high school that it was an homage to a book or poem. It reminds me of Nina Simone's See-Line woman. If anyone knows a referance, let me know please, I'm writing a paper about musics' influence in visual art.

  • @patriciamichelemc the colors are representative of the choreopoem, a collection of poems with dance and music, "for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is no longer enuf." Ntozake Shange wrote the choreopoem to express the myraid of struggles African-American women encounter through the poetic expressions of several African American women in the play. Each woman has a specific color. "Lady in Red, Yellow, Purple, etc".

  • My favorite part of the whole video is the Bad Ass Bag Lady Sequence at 2:57

  • Heard this song when i was a kid. Had no clue way she was talking bout. I listen to it now and this song is deep. I love it's meaning. I can relate to her music now.

  • @thefriend14 Me too. This song is the truth, i get it now.

  • Good music. Like this. Where you at?

  • It's her and Andre 3000's baby

  • Question for anyone: Is that the D-O-C's baby she's holding at the end?

  • is this the origianal song

  • @TheFuckOffMe No this is the Radio Edit, you can find it easily on iTunes.

  • Classic joint. It went over my head at first. Had to grow up and really LISTEN. Wonderful message to be sending to the women of the world.

  • cool girl!! sweet voice!!

  • I like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill's style. They keep it 100 and aren't afraid to show culture...

  • @charismaswagg real talk....i think thats what sets them apart from artist nowdays....culture....very well put

  • @charismaswagg Don't forget Jill Scott

  • @charismaswagg You know thought that when Erykah had super big hair, she was wearing a wig. I saw her take it off during a Dave Chappelle street concert. I love her!

  • @charismaswagg Jill Scott.. Wtf?, can't forget her

  • @lesteralive07

Xxplosive didn't bring you here. Erykah Badu did. Bet you didn't click on any other suggested videos ;)

  • She made this song about me because I got some serious baggage. Bad relationships with men, verbal abuse, man I got some issues.

  • My mom should have this song on her phone. You never see her without a (grocery) bag.

  • huh, i finally realize what this song is about!!

  • grooving :)

  • she always jammed .... love this woman

  • l lve this song always bumping to this,... i lve tha beat!=]=]

  • Love dis music

  • I MISS ERYKAH BADU!!! I loved being raised around her music

  • she said what she had to say...

  • Isn't that Nicole Ari Parker in the blue outfit? And is that Erykah's mom at 3:59? Looks an awful lot like her. I know E's sister is in the green outfit.

  • @augusts1 Yes that is her mom, Kolleen Gipson Wright at 3:59. Her mom is gorgeous and looks more like her sis.

  • @MillicentDionne Thanks, she does look like an older sis!

  • @augusts1 No prob.

  • that bar man looks like dave chappelle

  • xxplosive haha

  • damn, erykah sister in tha GREEN lookin good and just like her!!!!!!!

  • aww that baby at the end look just like his father andre 3000

  • her baggage is her kemetic monotheism (ptah) faith? too much thinking in that faith for the guys she's tried to have?

  • I love the message I got all those men who putting u thru unnecessary hurt and pain and not worth ur time or a space in ur life....LET IT GO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If I'm not mistaken that's her mom at the end, with the blonde hair and red cap. She's beautiful.

  • who else sampled this beat? i forgot

  • @The808Prophet Solange uses it in her cover of stillness is the move other people have sampled it too.

  • the metaphors in this song are clear....it's a song about consumerism and what that does to your self (and builds up your ego)....so no, it's not about emotional baggage like some think.....listen to the words "I guess nobody ever told you...all you must hold on to...is you, is you...is you......one day all those bags gon' get in your way". Meaning yo' ass needs to wake up out of this dream of materialism that you are liviing.....

  • Erykah Badu is the wife of Jay Electronica , rapper signed on Jay-Z's label Roc Nation !!!

  • I think the metaphor is that she's carrying her emotional baggage around, and it's taking a tole on her....

  • The one in the green is her eryka sister

  • the girl in the yellow makes me sooo mad ! ugh

  • she got freaky in yo 64 i skeeted in er throat

  • Look closely between 1:12 & 1:17 Erykah's head piece is so gargantuan that it resist the other girls -- Purple & Yellow -- from staying in formation lol <3 love you Erykah

  • @kiresilver LOL I caught that too.

  • this is the remix, right?

  • @MortenTheMartian this is a remix of her own song and as VAKO said dre sampled it for his song Xplosive

  • @Salukiham420 Yah then this is her own remix of her own song, and the remix samples Xxplosive, not the other way around

  • @Salukiham420

Er no, this samples Xxplosive...Dre didn't sample this.

  • @crystalwaterstylee

Absolutely correct. And for anyone saying Badu sampled Soul Mann & The Brothers, technically you are wrong, as the sample on Bag Lady was lifted from Dre, that was originally my point ;-)

  • @djtimwright the both sampled Soul Mann & the Brothers song Bumpy's Lament

  • woooow...explosive

  • @Salukiham420 lol
