No matter how many times I see this scene I always tear up. The first time I watched it I was around 11 and I was bawling, it was the first anime that I watched that didn't have a happy ending. The music, coupled with the quotes from Pinocchio and Jiro's speech altogether just make up this heartwrenching, amazing ending.

@sn54 Well the animation was kind of based on the illustrations from a 1970's manga, you have to remember. Which was inspired by Pinnochio, Frankenstein, and Astro Boy. So it's a bit retro, but they do a great job capturing the feel of the source materials' aesthetics.

at the end, after the robot explodes and the citizens of the city are standing among the rubble, the old monk who found akira is walking around while his grandaughter eiko , cares for akira. akira wakes up and sees eiko. she calls her granfather over and they tell akira he's going to be fine. The monk takes a look around at the people nearby, to the right you see someone's shadow appear then go away. can anyone tell me if jiiro survived??

Even though it's called Kikaider 01, it really doesn't star 01 but mostly Kikaider. 01 however is mostly a guest character and is destroyed by his brother with no way of saving 01 and 00 who never appeared in the live-action show but only in manga and SIC toy line.

Either way the story was very dark with no happy ending. A thing that writer Allen Moore does well!!!!

I don't so much think it's that he has to sin to be human, it's that he has to have the desire and ability to do so. Before he only had programming to be good, to protect. The addition of evil made him human. We all want to do bad things, but have a conscience telling us we shouldn't do them. Whether or not we give in isn't what matters, it's the struggle. This duality is present in Kikaider's unfinished half and half design.

he killed his brothers because they could never return to being themselves once kill put the control circuit into them they became shells of themselves only serving gill. he removed what made them people. so kikaider saved his brothers from commiting great evils toward mankind since they fought to save mankind he figured they would not wish to be used in such and evil way.

they got a couple of things wrong in the anime that were in the tv show which totally looks like power rangers. kikaider's brother akaider was supposed to have the guitar not jiro. not to mention they also made jiro's brother a bad guy which in the original tv series he was more of good/bad guy do to the fact that he saved his brother on occasion.

No It's not.. It isn't a version of Gemini. There is actually 4 versions of the song. The soundtrack is sold out but if you search google well enough, someone on their blog posted it.

You want to make sure you get the actual 01 OVA soundtrack, not the kIkaider series one.

Yes they are his brothers. Prior to this, they helped capture Kikaider so Gill could put the submission circuit in.

His brothers had no gemini and so reprogrammed they just followed orders.
