Just as an FYI a blast lets out super heated gasses that can pretty much mealt your skin. There was an explosion a few years back that gave a firefighters 3rd degree burns and they had to have been almost 4 times the distance that you are stainding.

As a first responder the easiest way to tell the safe distance for haze mat is the rule of thumb, hold your thumb up and if you can still see a the incident your too close. this guy is very lucky. if the truck blevied guarantied 2nd and 3rd degree radiant heat burns
