The MK1 is the one to own, very economical as the body style has about the same aerodynamics as a Porsche 911. I've owned 3 of these; these do break back axles + have a lousy kingpin front suspension setup
My first car was an Austin A40 Farina (YRW430). Owned in the late nineties. Saw it recently on eBay as a rot box. Real Shame, as it was still very good mechanically just 10 years ago.
I joined the owners club, but they were not happy with my Mk1 having a couple of improvements such as Mk2 Steering and also it had a reservoir bottle to stop car overheating. On the day of that rally I believe I was the only person who never had to stop to top up my water to get there!
..Anyway I went home, tinted my windows, and added an exhaust trim, because it was my car and not theirs! They I took the registration off the car, and stuck it on my brothers jeep. When I sold the A40 as BSL399, I sold it to someone with those initials! (they knew it was not transferable). I later sold the YRW430 reg to a guy who one day hopes to put it on a Ferrari F430!
Would I own another one, yes, I am always on the lookout for a good one, but next time, I plan to install a bigger engine!
We had one in 1965 .And as kids we would cheer no seatbelts in those days as our dad recalled the speed increase up to 63 mph.We thought we were in a rocket.

The A40 Farina is now very collectable!
Lots of a generic BMC parts and the engine can be rebuilt to AH Sprite specifications.
Budget classic!
