Barrichello must've practiced and perfected throwing the steering wheel. He single-handedly took out both HRT cars by a flick of his wrist. First Chandhook ran over it and broke his undertray, then the steering wheel detached and broke something into Senna's car who was following behind in the tunnel. Both had to retire because of the damages. :D
Rubens should have definitely been fined for this. It is appalling behavior for someone paid as highly as he is, with the amount of experience he has. And his comment about needing to get out of the car asap, he sat in the car for 28 seconds after throwing the steering wheel out. That seems like an awful amount of time to spend in a car for someone who is fearing for his life.
People are so unfair. It's hardly like he threw at the guard rail. He threw it out the car and it bounced all the way onto the 'racing line'. All he wants to do is get out of the car as soon as possible. Would love to see all the people who make negative comments have a crash at +200 km/h and then start worrying about where they place their steering wheel.
I am amazed by these comments Suggesting that Rubens Barrichello should be punished for throwing his steering wheel out at Monaco. He had just survived an almighty crash and ended up in the middle of the track, Surely the first thing you want to do get out of the car safely- There's no time for re-attaching a steering wheel. At any other track such a crash leaves you in the gravel and nbody complains about the wheel being thrown out then.
@Desdirodeabike Hey, he's a human being, everyone makes mistakes at one point or another, of course he shouldn't have done it, and it nearly cost the team a lot of money (They found it later and it still works!), but it's called the weakness of human nature; he is no more guilty of a major punishment than you or I. He also, as PwnageSniper said, was hardly going to hang around at that extremely dangerous part of the circuit where any number of those cars could have easily hit him.
@GeriatricFan1963 Nothing to stop him keeping the Steering Wheel with him, or doing the same as what he did with the HANS device, and just leaving it in the car. He, of all people, should know the dangers of lose equipment, given Massa at Hungary last year
I find it incredible that no action has been taken against Barrichello for this. I thought there was a penalty anyway for not reattaching the steering wheel after getting out of the car. But to throw it onto the track right into the racing line of oncoming cars is utterly irresponsible. Someone could could have been injured by this being flipped into the crowd by the next car - and yet NO ACTION has been taken!!!!! What is going on?
@kastakan I'm not sure but in my opinion, he threw it just a centimeters from his car and it bounced out all the way, the car was in bad shape at the time it was smoking if he didn't get out of there soon the car could have caught fire.
Their goes a 50,000 pound steering wheel

@hristoitchov Didn't chandhok retire after Trulli's lotus tried to sit on him?

@nickcsi I remember that he was the one who drove over Barrichello's steering wheel and it damaged his car's underbody. Got to look it up though.

Street circuit guys, leniency has to be given in this circumstance, the car was smoking, he was hardly going to hang around.
Go make a petition or something.
