  • @sd2787 You're 26 and posting messages like this on the internet :) sorry.

  • You are a twat, sorry

  • I love it !

  • Huge fan of this piece, James. I still maintain someone intelligent needs to fund a large scale outdoor solar version of the copper/steel version. It will mark a new day in sculpture. Static sculpture will become quaint.

  • @NobleDesignMedia That would be the most awesome thing ever. Especially if we could get a few of them up and roaming around the world like real animals, all completely solar powered. This is pretty inspiring for me.

  • @langanman Wow! what a sensational idea! Yes! a herd of them roaming on a hillside. That would be the absolute most sensational new splash on the art scene since the invention of the chisel! Oh please, someone do it!

  • I think I now understand some of the homoeroticism you clearly feel/display for this paper horse structure. Come watch another episode of Star Trek Voyager with me.

  • @quietthomas I'm really more of a TOS man.

  • That's incredible. I think I might have to get one!

    (Haha, I noticed the Dalek).

  • Can it walk without the wheels?

  • Pretty cool!

  • haha what would be funny is when someone who thinks they're good at origami pull out one of these and watch it walk around lol

  • cooool

  • haha cool ^^

  • wow!

  • this is so poetic! thank you for doing this, world goes better with people like you!

  • The dreamy tunes of The Octopus Project are a perfect accompaniment for this vid... kudos!! :)

  • Amazing stuff!

  • "my friend, you truly are an artist of immense proportions! please never stop pursuing your passions. i am awed with your creativity. i am impressed." less

  • my friend, you truly are an artist of immense proportions! please never stop pursuing your passions. i am awed with your creativity. i am impressed.

  • How long does tiny robot horse live for? Do it make a child tiny robot horse?

    Disco?

  • get a bigger kitchen!

  • sublime

  • i ordered the solar version...really excited, got it for my bf's bday. gonna spend a day building it. thanks so much for doing the kit. Im excited to see where it propells me after I understand how it works. im in the US how long does it take to ship?

  • I got all outstanding orders in the post today and to the US they should take around 5 working days.

  • It came on tuesday! thank you! so excited! will post a video soon

  • @MarbleMad Hey Fantastic Horse...I sort of printed a side view off and the made one in Stainless Steel using Dims. from Theo...Take a look if you like (You Tube,Stainless Steel Kinetic Horse)

    Nigel

  • LOL subscribed! A much eaiser way to beat it is to get into the closet on next to the first aid kits. It has 1 point of entry and with four people

  • beautiful.

  • Send me a mail when its able to turn and i will buy one^^

  • hey man, how much would it cost to order one of those from the US?

  • 10.95 UK Pounds. PayPay preferred

Follow the link in the 'more info' section.

    OR

send me a cool gift, Something easy to get in the US but hard to find in the UK.

I few tins of chocolate vermouth altoids for example.

  • Hmm, what are some other things hard to find in the UK but easy to get in the US? Just out of curiosity. I was also considering buying the solar powered kit, and I live in the US. But an international gift hunt seems a lot more fun than just using paypal. (ive also never heard of that type of altoids)

  • thats art man

  • wow thats great!!! its so cuteee

  • holy crap you're a genius aren't you.

i love the concept sketches in the beginning. wow.

  • Golden the Ponyboy, He's really galloping!!

  • God, these beautiful little delicate robots make me happy and sad at the same time. Whoever made these probably make more of an artistic impact than most "artists."

  • Gepetto?! Dad?! It's Pinnochio! You rock!

  • this is amazing i want one!!!!!

  • where can get this??

  • You can get it from me. Hit the (more info) link to the right of the movie and follow the first link.

  • Very cool =) I might get one and make it solar powered! Nice job

  • He's so adorable! When you suspend him in mid-air he lopes pretty realistically, great model.

  • Got my kit today. Cheers.....

I'll get a video of him up as soon as he's finished :)

  • Wow, the motion is fantastic. Quite hypnotic. Well done!

  • WHAT'S HIS NAME?

  • Awesome! Thank you for sharing - never saw one before, very cool [08

  • you seem to fail to see the point. the point is the technology involved to create the walking motion

  • Интересный механизм.

  • Cool toy!

  • Very nice, 5 for you !

  • hu? are you trying to exorcise my machines?

  • i built one of those out of a napkin

  • Nice! thanks for share

  • wow amazing!

  • how did u do that?

  • that's awesome, well designed

  • psychotic music though

  • tell me about it! zombie voice: "I will make paper kinetic horse...i will make paper kinetic horse..."

  • awsome!!cool

  • This is awesome!!!... You must have done it with a lot of effort. great work!

  • Anyways, Well done! Your work is amazing!

  • I've had the opportunity to play with life size zebra puppets, much like your design, in the Lion King. The head of the zebra was the key factor in creating realistic movement. The Hollow head of the zebra puppet was attached to a T-bar,When the performer moved across the space, the head would simply bounce up and down with the momentum, much like a bobble head. Perhaps you could find an origami design that would allow the neck to be flexible enough so the head could bounce as the mechanism moved.

  • strap a cardboard saddle on it and your set man.

  • Thats awesome.

  • Yeah, but can u turn it into glue?

  • loook mommy a paper horsyyyyy

  • Did you try to base your design off of Theo Jansen's creations?

  • Yes. If you look at my other vids or my web site you'll see the horse evolved directly from work inspired by Jansen.

    From my web page:

" The inspiration of this work includes Eadweard Muybridg motion studies

and the amazing machines created by Theo Jansen. "

  • hah, I thought this reminded me of him! Amazing.

  • thats pretty tech

how do come up with these things?

people who makes these are truely smart

    or seomthing

    lol

  • this sounds like Mates of State

  • never mind

  • can it move and not fall over when it isnt tied up?

  • without its cart it tends to fall over however with a bit of work i bet i could get it to stay upright. It'd be a bit like a radio controlled motorbike. you'd need it to get up to a decent speed then you'd have to devise some way of remotely controlling the centre of gravity. Tricky but possible.

  • Moves like a real horse!! Amazing!

  • It almost seems to have various gaits like a real horse, but there's only one cam for the motion on each side. A very clever bit of engineering, that.

  • That's an incredible piece of engineering. We can't wait to see more.

  • wow haha

  • That thing is amazing.

  • excellent !

  • This is amazing, it truely moves like a horse! Which is what they were shooting for, I'm guessing?

  • but would it actually m ove forward or just fall over lol... but awesome!

  • I would have to say this is pretty cool, but I would never have the patience to make it. Still really nice.

  • i second that xD oh wellz good job =D

  • how cute!:)

  • may i know which software did you use to check for force equilibrium, velocity and acceleration of the linkages ? is it free ?

  • I used a mark 1 brain aided by a pencil, lots of paper, scissors and glue.

(the thing was designed on xara which is just a structured drawing program like illustrator and i got the mechanics working through simple trial and error).

  • It walks just like my kitty cat baking bread. CUTE!

  • Does anyone know if the kit is hard to assemble. I can just about make paper aeroplanes but I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow this guide on this.

  • Since I constructed it it is hard for me to evaluate how difficult it is for others to make but to be honest I'd characterise this as an 'advanced' project.

If you want to get a feel for what my kits are like to make why not try the free wind turbine. If that poses no problems then the horse may be achievable.

  • I would say it's rather difficult as well although I think I had some printing issues. My "5 cm" scale was 5.1 cm. I went ahead and everything fit together ok except the crank was too large for the horse (using assigned dimensions)causing the legs to stick out too far. Also, the AA battery isn't enough to make mine walk :( it ran the motor fine though. I'm going to try a new battery then maybe a couple in series; perhaps it'll walk then.

  • walk in the air? or walk on the ground? It's not really designed to walk on the ground.. I used 6volts to get it to trot along the ground at speed. The crank shaft is probably the trickiest bit to get right (there's a reason I gave you 2 :) )

  • 1.2V (AA) doesn't actuate the legs in the air but it may just be a poor battery or some misalignment causing larger then designed stresses that the motor can't overcome. I'm glad to hear that the 6V worked because I didn't know what the motor was rated for. Gonna have to go buy a potentiometer.

  • I think the motor is actually rated at 1.5 to 4.5V :)

  • This is simply genius! 5 stars

  • aweeesome! I want three

  • wow, thats pretty damn cool

  • Cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!5*****

  • damn genius, this is incredible

  • You can solve the control problem by simply adding a serial potentiometer.

  • no worries, just pay-pal-ed it!

  • fantastic! are the directions free?...i think i'll exparament with this and make a full sized one...

  • Nice! Keep away from he walls dude! Great!

  • Wow I found Joanna Newsom because of your other video, and now I found The Ocotupus Project. I'm subscribing so I can keep finding amazing music courtesy of you. I also love your paper horses a lot.

  • your music taste is awsome

  • This is like something out of The Science of Sleep :]

  • not seen that yet but I loved Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind so I'll check it out eventually.

  • Awesome !!!!

  • what was the song while you were just showing instructions and details/schematics

  • 'Snow Tip Cap Mountain'

    also from 'Hello Avalanche'.

  • thanksyou :D

  • I think I will be ordering one of these.

What is the name of the song you are using in this video?

  • "Queen" followed by a little bit of "I Saw the Bright Shinies" Both from the latest album "Hello Avalanche" by the super brilliant "The Octopus Project" You can download a lot of thier songs for free from the official web site, see the link in About this Video but you should BUY the latest album. It's fabulous.

  • Now if only it had a remote control, it would be perfect. Although I don't know how you'd actually get it to turn...

  • you strap 2 together then it can turn like a tank. The electronics from an RC dalek should do the trick.

See the video by 'Willa1980' called 'Theo Jansen inspired radio controlled walking robot 3'. It demonstrates the principle nicely.

  • I love it!!! :)

  • A kit version of the Kinetic Horse is finally available. See the 'About This Video' box for more details.
