Great job! It's wonderful how their names are flexible. It seems it would be easier to understand the growth and flexibility of one's identity if you could change your name periodically, depending on what was important to you.
point is.. we don't have any clue about their world... we look at them and do not comprehend that they're special and there is a lot that they do not have access to. Even the simple task of watching a news program is something that they do not have access to without a translator. We are too ignorant... that's the truth.
The counselor on a deaf community Deafornot dot c om said that "People who may be defined as clinically deaf (unable to hear spoken language) may or may not be members of the Deaf community."
Just a quibble with your description. 'Sign Language' isn't the name of their language. There are many different sign languages and they each have names, just as the many different spoken languages of the world do.
i really liked this, all the kids were really sweet. I liked when they talked about how annoying it is to speak to their parents since they don't understand what they are saying. Kids are so honest. I think there is an innocence about them and yet they have this sort of maturity/wisdom or different understanding of things. These children just seemed to really appreciate each other because they have a mutual understanding even when one got mad. It was cute the boy who was the peacemaker
The counselor on a deaf community Deafornot dot c om said that "People who may be defined as clinically deaf (unable to hear spoken language) may or may not be members of the Deaf community."
Oh I can't Imagine what Its like to have to express everything with my hands. I used to take my voice and expressing things through words for granted. But now thanks to this video, I really understand.
If you imagine someone trying to put a similar spin on blindness, or even the lack of ability to smell and taste, I think just how absurd this romanticizing of deafness is becomes apparent.
@XavierNinnis It's not romanticizing. There is no blind community or taste-lacking community in the same sense there is a Deaf community . The Deaf have a whole language and culture inside of the communities of their respective countries. It's not absurd. It's the truth.
Just because of this little film I had begun to learn sign language. I'm just at the beginning, so I can't understand every word they spell. But what I can see is that they 'speak' in ISL (international sign language) and I learn DGS (Deutsche gebärdensprache, german sign laguage).
@AznSwat - why sad? it's not sad to them... only your perception is sad... I work with Deaf and there is no pity until a 'hearing' person introduces it...
@AznSwat - that's what I mean - feeling pity, sadness for one means their JOY and self-awareness in who they are is not enough... I think it is - they are beautifully COMPLETE in themselves as is - I am HAPPY for them, they are beautiful.
@TONGANMUViiEZ "WOW a whole world where to them, were [sic] the deaf ones."
Piffle.
Why? Because most of "we", the hearing, haven't learned to sign? Let's not get carried away here, AT BEST they can be seen as a group of people who just happen to communicate in a given language, no better, no worse, than another.
And that's putting the BEST face on the situation.
Hi.. Well actually, i think in this video it's my seventh or eight birthday, and about two weeks ago i became 17 years old, so the video should be about 9-10 years old :)
thatd be funny if the teacher was talking and she was like pay attention class! and the kids were like what did you say? she was like what are you deaf? and they were like yes actually i am. :)
I know that girl who name's sadaf, and i've been in that school once for long time ago, to visit and see how sadafs school was.. I LOVE YOU SO MUCH SADAF!!! YOU'R SO LITTLE AND DAMN CUTE IN THIS VIDEO!!!!! OMG SOO CUUUTTE!!!!! Luuuve uuu
Yeah it is. It's quite funny to me to watch this, because it's actually my birthday in this video. The birthday song in this video is the danish birthday song, even though we have two, but this song is the most used in Denmark.
The deaf kids in my hood were always the smartest, they knew how to use the computer first, they dressed funky and expressive and they have gone to other countries with their school. They were too cool for us, we felt intimidated and fascinated running into them on the street.
it shows the greatness of human abilities!!!!!........they are amazing!!!!!!!!.........has anyone noticed the way they talk to each other......???....they're really mature!!!!!.....i luv em
all the deaf kids at my school were always jerks for some reason. so i was under the impression that all deaf people were real jerks. but this video is real cool.
Brilliant little documentary. Though I would think it would be very difficult for them to learn much new vocab if they speak better sign language than their parents. I know they come into contact with new words at school but we learn so much from our parents.
Beautiful video. It's great to watch the similarities between Australian Sign Language (AUSLAN) and Danish. Regardless of the language, sign is just so expressive, no matter where it is in the world.

what a great way to show that these kids are just like any other kids - as you watch you forget that they are any different or have a disability at all! kudos to a great little film:o)
This is a cute documentary. It's interesting watching kids play. Must be frustrating though when you're tryng to talk to a group of people and the odd person has his back to you for a moment.
for me, they're just like normal kids except that they're deaf/mute(but that doesn't matter). they're very smart and they're opinions and perceptions in life are just the same with everyone else. like when they were talking about sports and when that little girl said her parents were annoying. well, this video just made me smile. it was very touching and honest. :-)
Very sweet and well-made documentary. The kids are so touching. It was funny to see the equivalent of a hearing person trying to speak with a mouthful, as one boy was carrying the two tires and had two put them down to have his hands free every time he wanted to say something, hehe. Very good voice-over! I wonder if in denmark there is also a relatively greater part of disabled kids from foreign origins..
I clicked on, saw it was nearly 17 minutes long and thought-i can't put up with this-i can only usually take youtube's low quality for a short while-but THE CHARACTERS! They were mesmerising - and the voiceover was very personable and characterful - i felt as though she was being very honest with what they were saying.
It was sad to hear that their parents didn't know much sign language - in some ways I think that would make a terrific follow-up documentary. thank you!
The kids seem really smart, and they resolve their problems instead of fist fighting over things (as far as I've seen), and if sign language is as easy as the child says, I'd be willing to try and learn it ^_^
Loved the video! Also wanted to add that these are extremely intelligent children. I've always wanted to learn Sign Language. I think it was Rasmus who said "Signing is easy and there is sooo many things you can say." xD
I don't mean to be rude but learning Sign Language is not easy at all. Im going to school to become an interpreter for the Deaf and there is so many things you have to learn then you can even imagine.
Well done! I agree with peckerwoodtwist that sign language should be taught in a regular school. Parents should also learn it so that they would fully understand their kids.
I agree with peckerwoodtwist. I think sign language should be taught like any other language in high school. I know they offer it in college, but it gets harder and harder for the mind to pick up a language at that point.
Great job! It's wonderful how their names are flexible. It seems it would be easier to understand the growth and flexibility of one's identity if you could change your name periodically, depending on what was important to you.

so cool. i think sign language is the most beautiful in the world.
And these kids, I've never seen such extensive signing, so i haven't realized all the inflections they put in with only their faces.

Wow. I never realized that deaf people used so much inflection in their signing!

I am sure it is not easy. I am willing to dedicate time to learning it.
