Is High on Fire's Matt Pike greatest guitarist? Pt 1

High on fire came with black cobra, bison b.c. and priestess a couple months back I went to the venue like 2 hours before the show started to beat the crowds and when I walked in Matt was standing at the bar drinking a beer I ended up bs'in with him for about an hour while he played video poker. super rad guy cracked me up and I bought him a shot later and my buddy took credit i was pissed!

Matt is cool. I met him over a year ago, after High On Fire opened for OPETH. He was drinking/smoking at the bar (which is illegal in Mass!!!) and was just the coolest, friendliest dude. Like a totally cool version of TED THEODORE LOGAN of WYLD STALLYNS!!! Seriously though Matt was so damned cool.

People are dumb... Matt Pike fucking rules, but it's not like it's that hard to play any doomy type metal. It's all in the writing, gotta come from somewhere deep or it doesn't sound good.

I agree, technicality doesn't come into it. It's so naiive to think that technical prowess is synonymous with being good. Bands like High on Fire have shown that you can make aggressive and progressive metal without being a bunch of wankers.

Is he the best technical player? WHO GIVES A SHIT!? Hes more a musician than just a player, has a powerful VISION and IMAGINATION which is much rarer than technical ability. I know alot of "technical players" and NONE of them have ever written a song that i would want to hear again.

He's a better songwriter than he is player. Don't get me wrong; he's an excellent guitarist, but his songs aren't as complicated as they are unique and emotionally powerful.

Every single album High on Fire has released has been unbelievably amazing, Matt is by far the best guitarist out there and is definitley up there in ranks of ALL-TIME! "Sons of Thunder" is the definition of Perfection!
