  • CAL TJADER Quintet:"Live At The Funky Quarters"(Fantasy 9409)s

PHILLY MAMBO(Tito Puente)7:00 with Cal Tjader (vibes/perc.), Al Zulaica (Fender-Rhodes), John Heard (bass), Dick Berg (drums), Michael Smith (congas). (Recorded:1970/Live! at “The Funky Quarters”).

  • Cal Tjader. Innovator, and extrordinary improvisory, latin jazz genius. Since 1957, when I was in high school, this cat was blowing my mind. Sabroso sounds that still abound. Mongo,Willie,Vince, and Al McKibbon. Sweet Latin sounds never that tire.

  • The leader's duty, Ordained by his nature, Is to be bold.

  • I love you Cal! 0:58 lick is sick!

  • Guess we knew his was an inspirational sound/rhythm/aural feast when their 'Soul Sauce' made th leap to pop - radio airwaves in L.A. 1966... and it's still ours to thrill to... Hallelujah!!! :)

  • this is so amazing

  • Another sexy jam by Tjader!....as if one could expect less. Great post.
