Iceland is a volcano.A big plume is under the ground. There is no supervolcano in Iceland. The eruption of Eyjafjallajokull is nothing!Less than 1 kub.km!Don't forget Tambora...Or Pinatubo at least.

if their was even a hint of this thing going off I think it would be picked by some bigger media group rather than this tin pot outfit, hey al jiz era can I get a job and a free flight to some random country and report on some nonsense?
Did the reporter listen to anything said by IMO or the locals of Vik? Dreadful journalism made to make people live in fear. Al-Jazeera - the Arabic National Enquirer/Sunday Sport. Do yourself a favour and search 'jonfr volcano' he lives in Iceland and knows about Lady Katla. Obviously a slow news day. And for the record Katla has been pretty quiet since the summer. The main threat Lady K brings is for the people of Vik. This was 2 min 16 seconds of Jökulhlaup journalism. File under ignore
I was just reading and commenting about the Laacher See super volcano in Germany. It too is showing signs of activity. Perhaps Fire and Brimstone will rain from the sky.
@mahovictor there is more sign of this coming from my posterior if I eat a Ghost Chilli. Read Erik Klemetti who tackles the scary German volcano story which is tabloid junkmail. Now if they want to talk about Bavarians wanting to shoot cows and bears that would be interesting ;)
1947 a big volcano Hekla was errupting in iceland ,but in the year 1947 airplanes were pistons engines whith airfilters( ashes in some Scandinavia towns ). Nowadays modern airplanes are whith unfiltered huges air intake (modern jets ) .2010 was different.(Eyjafjallajokull.) Iceland is not in south pacific but in line of very important fly routes North atlantic.
Super volcano or not, Iceland has many a dark demon waiting Katla being one of them, but the Lakagígar fissure to the east is a real bad demon. It erupted in 1783 and had a huge global impact, killed ten of thousands and caused all manner of weather problems, 1784 was one of the coldest and longest in American history. So my learned friend, No its not a super Volcano but it will be sure to bring suffering to many and that's not something to boast about, is it now!!
got a feeling that the raising atmosphere temperature is affecting the earth crust ... earthquake, volcano.. as the ocean is the huge storage of energy...
The ash is a bit annoying in the short term, but it also re-fertilizes the land. A little layer of ash is good news for forests and farmers, it brings nutrients. Its just the airlines that dont like it.
@kurtilein3 Exactly. In fact there wouldnt be Iceland without volcanoes. But human beings have always been silly cherry-pickers. Thats why they are in such a mess.
@kurtilein3 Are you stupid? A little ash is good but the amount we got from eyjafjallajökull was way too much and did not have an good effect. It killed alot of animals that farmers need/use and blocked the sun for some time. So its more than "a bit annoying".
yes, well, i was talking about a little layer of ash :) of course if its really too much, its really too much. still, for the vast majority, like for example europe, and especially for nutrient-poor rainforests, its good news.
