  • If you like ray, then perhaps you would like "Mediocre Majesty", which is me. I'm indie folk, and feel the need to be heard, do please check out my cover music or even my originals. Thanks everyone. Peace

  • I guess folks that are comparing this to Neil Young understand the artistic interpretation of the work Neil Young did, Lyrics to lyrics....a continuing story......with son's bend on the tune. "through the years I have learned some things worth telling....."

  • this song rocks...i love your voice Ray!!!

  • Words can't describe how incredible this is.

  • i guess his voice is just like Ray Lamontagne. Stop comparing ever Singer/Songwriter with each other pls. What for?

  • OMG he is amazzzzzing. he sounds like james morrison <3

  • Summer of 2011, Vail with my husband, 3 lovely children, and 5 friends, painting henna for the festival, staying in the penthouse condo overlooking Nottingham Lake, Playing in the pool and wandering the mountain. This song brings those memories so fresh back to my heart and mind.

  • what album is it?

  • he writes good music like neil young but he doesn't sound like neil. I hope thats how you guys are comparing him to him lol anyways they're both great.

  • Wish i could reach through the screen and slap 4 people

  • when he says "i am tired, i am tired" the second time -- it kills me! the way he sings "tired" and goes up a little on the second syllable...i love it.

  • I think he sounds a little like Dan Fogelberg. Nice sound , nice song!

  • James Taylor, so what. There is a difference in intonation.

  • Heard this song on AOL Radio Adult Alternative. Great song!

  • this song finnaly makes it feel like summer....

  • the oneill add sent me here. what a wonderful, wonderful song! are we back in the 70s?

I think every girl you would present yourself listening to music like this would asap fall in love with you :-)

  • Just saw him for the first time at the Britt Festival, he was absolutely amazing live!! This whole album is one of those you can put on repeat and it doesn't get old.

  • This is a beautiful song and a beautiful album. I'm SO glad that there are so many of us who still can hear a good song, good songwriter, and a great singer.

  • nice song but it has a similar chord structure to james taylor fire and rain

  • This almost sounds like "Old Man" by Neil Young or CSN&Y....the melody, I mean...He's a great singer, Ray.

  • Going to see Ray in Atlanta, GA in september. I will be beside myself until then:)

  • Ya know,,,,,such song writing is very rare.Beautiful voice, excellent structure on the whole damn CD.We are very lucky to have guys like Ray L.They are very rare, the last that I can remember having such talent was Jeff Buckley.

  • @1nationhere Every last one of his albums if you ask me!

  • Great show in Minneapolis last night!

  • @KellyHettwer Agreed!

  • my favorite song ever!!!

  • listend to this song 154 times to day ,, no lie he gets every note right xxxx

  • Awesome song....I jam it every time I hear it on the radio!

  • Love it. lirahluna1

  • for damn sure I thought this was a woman doing this song. I only hear it on the Shore 104.3 in VANCOUVER. He does have a dusky kind of female voice.

  • Love Ray, he's got me hooked. The whole band is so soulful, love Jenny on that hollow body bass. My wife says I've got a man crush on him.

  • JESUS! looks like him ehh but his voice and music ehh shut the fuck up

  • I don't hear anybody bringing up comparisons to the late-great Dan Fogleberg!

  • @KzooRhino Yes he was great, KzooRhino. RIP, Dan!

  • great song, great voice

  • saw him in january, his voice is magical!

  • Seeing him in September! This time around, there will be no David Gray so hopefully Ray will be able to play the entire night. Woohoo!

  • @sdiep83 You saw him AND David Gray?! Soo lucky! I've seen David a few times (he's great). I'm seeing Ray in Vancouver, I can't wait. I'm sure he's gonna be great :)

  • @juicyjonasxo His voice is biblical, to say the least. You can feel his heart and soul in every one of his songs. Enjoy the show! I'll be seeing him in Berkeley, CA for the second straight year. So excited!

  • @sdiep83 omg you are sooo lucky arnt his tickets like £150 x

  • everybody always compares him to joni mitchelle, neal young, cat stevens, seals and crofts, maybe even bob dylan, however he can be compared to them in writing styles because all are folk singer and this is how they write. but there is something different about rays voice. There are runs and even a hint of soul. in songs like burn, still can't feel the gin, trouble, this love is over and let it be me. its a whole other level.

  • I first heard this song in my science class... I got all emotional cause it reminded me of my friend rooster and the times we had....

  • smooth.... his voice and lyrics are like waking to sun after a long long winter.

Make your way to Vancouver BC...

  • Acoustic guitar intro to Country Road? Sure. A touch of Fire and Rain, even.

And yes, you would have to think Ray's vocals would sound very different indeed if he had never heard of Joni Mitchell--but... Neil Young? Oh, puhleez. Let's not get carried away.

  • sorry guys but all this talk of Neil Young is rediculous. He is a sound of his own, sounds like Ray to me guys!

  • Tracy, thank you for "turning me on" to this song, and yes, please come home for the summer, gf! We all love you. btw, THIS TUNE IS 2 Cool, I am really "digging" this artist, doesn't it seem like music is flowing backwards, kinda taking on a "folk" swing again???????????? I'm gonna listen more to this artist!

  • Ray, you'd feel right at home in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Love to see you up here. Joni, James, Dan, and now Ray.

  • I cannot get enough of this song!

  • i turned this on and my dad walked into my room and goes "oh yeah, thats neil young". Sorry dad. THIS BAD BOY IS RAY LAMONTAGNE!!

  • @turban123 How could anyone say this is Neil Young? Neil Young has one of the worst voices ever!! Great songwriter, horrible voice - makes me cringe. Ray LaMontagne truly has a holy voice AND is an excellent songwriter.

  • I could have sworn this was a Seals and Croft song. It's great! Just another piece of evidence that good song composers have been with us all along--they didn't exit in the mid-70's. Thank you for the post!

  • His best song to date. Sorry but Trouble annoyed the heck out of me but this is brilliant.

  • Cheers to the new generation of Neil Young. He should be proud.

  • Love this song. Utterly amazing. But (feel free to call me crazy) the first time I ever heard this song I honestly thought it was "Fire and Rain" by James Taylor. I was literally singing the words "Just yesterday morning" before I realized. Did this happen to anyone else?

  • the two people that disliked this song must be crazy or on crack.

  • This WILL be a classic!!

  • such a fan of his and this.

  • the modern day James Taylor? Good lake music for the iPod.

  • This guy smokes Pot.

  • @savajostac lmao. Does that make him better or worse? Better question, is it relevant?

  • @chemicalamor3

relevent ,,,better ,,,worse,,,that depends on the listener,,,but it is obvious.

  • @chemicalamor3 Well good to know that 4 of your 5 comments on this single video contained little to no intelligence whatsoever, thats nearly 100%!.

  • @savajostac are you suggesting there's something wrong with that?

  • oh my god. I am a fan.

  • @xXHockeyownsXx thats what i said but i got this album and this is the best song by about a million. was a little disappointing. doesnt make it any less of a perfect song tho

  • amazing...

  • Is it me or does the intro to this sound exactly like the intro to "Country Road" by James Taylor?

  • @douchechillum Sounds pretty similar.

  • This album was the first of his stuff I heard. Needless to say I now have everything he's released. The guy's truly incredible.

  • He just sounds like Ray the way he should and will sound.

  • Just heard this on the radio. I will definitely look up more of his stuff.

  • song rocks

  • he sounds like a perfect mix of neil young and joni mitchelle

  • @OSteffi I was listening to this one the other day, and found myself wondering if Neil and Joni had gotten together, and made a baby, lol!

  • @OSteffi Yep your right I'ed even add in a little america I always thought Horse w/ no name was neil young until I bought the lp

  • this is truly amazing! great song

  • I pity the people who haven't heard this guy!

  • this is such a good song!

  • "Each and every lesson, they were hard won"

The truth in Ray's lyrics amazes me everytime... He is brilliant.

  • he kindasunds like james tayor. the way he plays and hi arrangements. great song

  • love this whole album!

  • The more I hear from this guy ( I just learned about him due to Beg, Borrow, Steal), the more I hear hints of vintage Fogelberg from the initial Home Free, Souvenirs, and Captured Angel albums. Fogelberg's voice during that period was fairly high in timbre too.

Dan and Joni Mitchell were buds and recording partners on occasion, so it's not so far fetched of a comparison. The first time I heard BBS, I wondered if Joni had come out with a new album, and had a deeper voice due to aging. :-)

  • the saddest sexiest most beautiful song i've ever heard.

  • Really grows on you...

  • still take you in person... your voice is not about comparison...it's about association...stay true!

  • @jbbets Maybe consider some counseling or something.

  • @tonymcmorin : I second that.

  • I prefer the Ray's voice than Neil Young ... but it's my own feeling

  • i can relate to this cos Ray has basically toured none stop for the last six years. FACT !!!!

  • I always think Ray's best moment was the last one - Wow I'm always wrong - This song is Grammy Amazing!

  • Opening riff sounds so much like the breakdown in 'Old Man' by Neil Young...

  • we wish you did. Ray's the best!

  • @jbbets are you fucking kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? This song is amazing!

  • @jbbets when you want dude RIP

  • Thank you for posting this song! It is currently my favorite song "for the summer." :)

  • Great song...another Great album. Too bad he doesn't spend much time in the Southeast. Sing on Ray....

  • hes Jesus!!

  • Thank you. Love this.

  • He opened with this in Boston on the 17th. First time I ever heard it, but felt like I always knew it because it's so timeless.

  • Luv it, looking forward to Aug 29th.

  • I concur........excellent cd! Buy it!
