  • did anyone else notice the house theme?

  • The cards are obviously marked so they, when placed in correct order, say what card and what suit it is. He has the cards marked with some tiny spot or sign so he knows how to arrange them. Very impressive nonetheless.

  • The song he used near the end is called "Teardrop" and it's from Massive Attack.

  • Fucking owned them with that single "No".

Lol'd at Teller standing and applauding him.

  • HEY !!!!!! where's the like and dislike bar

  • The fact that he sells the trick online makes it clear that it's all sleight of hand and no force or extra decks. You can sell a trick but not the skill.

  • love that music!!!

  • Good choice of music.

  • I agree with the below theory. Maybe they should put us on this show.

  • the trick was frankly boring in excecution, but it was damn smart and brilliant

  • Assasin creed theme ?

  • @Andaril2 Its the theme song for House M.D.

  • Comment removed

  • house md theme

  • @lisins2kill it's Massive Attack - Teardrop

  • 2:32 in that sack of dick

  • The song is called "Teardrop" by the band "Massive Attack"

  • genius move ... brilliant

  • HOW IN THE BLUEST OF BLUE HELLS DO YOU FIRETRUCKING DO THIS

  • How. The. Fuck. Did. He. Do. That.

  • umm, that seemed trivially obvious... P&T just got sold by the best piece of misdirection ever.

  • This card trick mainly requiers the ability to count but keeping all your motions fluid, the deck can write the name of any card you can see how he counts the cards and stacks them in a certain way, if you shuffled the deck any time duiring, it would all turn out embarassing! :P

  • @Costic I totally disagree that the deck can spell any card depending on how many cards he takes out at the start. the 'OF' will always be there ready and would not be able to be changed into any other word. so if he has the 'NINE', then how would he change it into a THREE for example?? Or be able to change a DIAMOND into a CLUB just depending on how many cards he counts. pretty difficult

  • @madoublet11 It is only one deck that can spell out any card, but your right in thinking the cards he counts off the start do not matter (They are all blank cards to persuade the audience that the deck is blank).

  • @madoublet11 Costic didn’t say it depended on how many cards he takes out at the start. He said you needed to count, and the deck can write anything depending on how he counts the cards and stacks them. In other words, ALL the deck handling is to rearrange the cards so that the right edges when spread will read correctly. That probably involves specific cuts and inversions. This is almost certainly how the trick is done, and it is no less impressive for it. In fact it’s BRILLIANT in my opinion.

  • @Costic I share your opinion.. however i don't think the deck can write the name of any card, what leads me to believe otherwise is that he gave limited choice when asking the questions of which card they wanted. Then I think he reordered the deck according to the public's decision and like you said he had to be very careful.

  • @knightinmiami Every card can be named, you can buy his effect and see that. Congratulations Mr.Bich!

  • @knightinmiami He didn’t give a limited choice. He asked red or black, hearts or diamonds, high or low, and (once “high” was chosen), 7, 8, 9, J, Q, K (top 6). Every single one of those choices could have gone another way, and the alternatives cover almost every single possible card. The only exception is if ace is included or not. For instance, he could exclude ace altogether (e.g., if they had said low, he would count ace as high), making “low” equal 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

  • the letters were black though, not red.....didn't seem the color mattered

  • wow i am so impressed in too magic tricks too my greatest respect mr. Mathieu Bich and also very genius of saying no bravo im admired so much to david blaine , dynamo , david copperfield, sigfried and roy , hans klok , lance barton and also penn teller now you are my greatest inspire also so original trick

  • HAHAHHA BITCH!!!! BICH

  • Teller is a SHitHeaD

  • I'm actually quite surprised they weren't able to figure it out when I was(or at least what I'm fairly certain of), they just got too side-tracked with the wrong idea. I'm sure they knew but they went with their gut, if given a second chance they'd have gotten it

  • @DashCat9 lol, he sells the trick online. There is no second person required. The same deck is always used. It's just a well-designed & technical magic trick with fabulous sleight of hand.

  • Son of a "Bich"

  • @hexmeohdear Haha!

  • @hexmeohdear its bish you moron

  • He has to have someone under the table who hands the correct deck up behind the box, and he uses sleight of hand to make it look like he's dumping the deck out of the box into his hand.

  • @DashCat9 They are not allowed to use their own tables, the tables are owned by the show and penn and teller knows exactly how the tables are designed, no way they would have let someone sneak in while they put the table on the stage.

  • Comment removed

  • and everybody it is sleight not slight

  • it's got to have something to do with the deck box movement

  • So far all I've gathered is that there are a couple of possibilities. The color of the ball and the shapes on it suggested the suit. The massive red ball suggested red cards and the triangular shape suggested diamonds.

As to the high vs. low and exact number, I don't know if he could have suggested them.

I wonder if there's a tell on the cards and a memorized order to put them in that allows you to slide them out in a certain way and spell what you want. I wanna see those cards. Great trick.

  • @LibertarianINT Not even close. There is no force at all. The throwing of the ball is just to get the whole audience involved and to get an entirely random card. You can even do this with a handful of people and ask each of them the same questions without the ball. You can even do this with one person and have them freely think of a card. Also, you can repeat the trick with a different selected card!

  • The look on Teller's face when the box said 'NO' at the bottom was priceless.

  • Haha Mr. "Bich"...

  • you gotta give mathieu credit for his poker face at 6:00

  • Sorry, Penn but that was a lame assumption. How would another deck make a difference? . And for him to be prepared for that is very odd. He definitely baited you with the box but I am shocked you fell for it as an additional deck is not necessary.

The cards will spell out any card in the deck, thus all the organizing of the cards. "OF" never changes while "NINE" could have just as well read "JACK", had the audience chosen so. The slight of hand is nothing less than incredible!

  • There's just different lines on the cards farther from the edge than the "your card is the" cards and he just shuffled them into place and slid them out just far enough to see just the right ones. I couldnt do it but I can understand how he did it.

  • @DILLSN0OB Well almost right, he sorts them out in a way so he allways keep the blank side up to the audience and maintains the illusions that they are all white, but enough cards have parts of letters printed on the "back" to create any card he just need to sort them in a way that will make the white front hide the rest of the cards identity

  • as teller once said "i dont think theres a nice thing you can do for a fellow magician then use his knowledge to fool the heck out of it". awesome, awesome trick.

  • That NO was genius

  • What a boss to do that to the greatest magicians in the world. Shame that he sells this trick on the internet.

  • Damn that is a good trick. My theory: Each card has part of a letter (can be used for different letters, e.g. the left part of an 'M' can be used in an 'N'), and through INCREDIBLY highly skilled and practiced sleight of hand, he rearranges the deck to spell whatever he wants. A simple explanation, but still AMAZING if that's actually what he does.

  • @GeorgeMillo that's probably the method, but how he got the letters down in such a short time is also quite astonishing

  • Awesome nuff sed

  • WOW how did he do that?

  • Bich is baaaad!

  • great act

  • it's fairly easy: the deck is like a dictionary. When you know the card, you have to rearange the white deck to represent the letters in that word.

  • @MrHonordeath

Each letter isn't 1 card. Each letter is made up of multiple cards, that means that it's more complex than arranging 26 letters (with some multiples, and with some exclusions). If your dictionary idea is correct, he'd have to arrange different shapes in order in a pile of cards to create letterforms to write out a word.

  • That was great.

  • hahah~The box trick is designed to fool Penn and Teller.

  • SO when does Hugh Laurie come out? Clearly the theme of House...

  • Great trick design.

  • damn americunts cant eaven decde if its yes or no herp derp

  • at 3:36 when hes mixing the cards he turns them over!!

  • @alitomgo so.

  • Does any one know the song playing while he's doin the trick

  • @jesseica teardrop, by massive attack

  • Comment removed

  • @jesseica Massive Attack - Teardrop :)

  • ooooo what a bich.

  • no bitch jokes in the top comments?

  • Anyone know this song???????

  • @XxMOWENxX Teardrop - Massive Attack.

  • i know this trick but i dont have the props:P got the dvd on the how to

  • Superb Trick :)

  • Bich is Latin for generosity.

  • The card might have been forced using subliminal messages. Red balloon, red card, though I'm not sure how he got diamonds and number.

  • @bander87 Yeah that crossed my mind too as you can see the first few people looked at the ball as if they were looking for inspiration.

  • @cuhrayzee1 Nope it was not a force . This trick is called Spreadwave 2.0 , created by him and he has it own sale . Definitely no force .

  • i thought his name wwas Match a Bitch

  • I thought House was coming on...

  • Is this trick available for purchase? o-o

  • is that the house theme? lol

  • Where's the RED card BICH?

  • @NEffusion *Bangs head to table*

  • THAT BICH!

  • Love Tellers reaction when Mattieu shows him the "NO" in the box. Thát's a genuine look of surprise and admiration

  • also i dont agree with exposing tricks as they do

  • i dont understand why Penn and Teller are seen as amazing magicians - they are good - but they are no where near the best

  • @holdenross Though they may not demonstrate in their style, they completely respect the whole idea of magic, and they are VERY well educated in the area, and they appreciate being fooled even more than non-magicians do.

  • It's that House Theme?

  • Velcome to Sprockets.........i am Dieter, your host.

  • is that the house themesong

  • k why does it matter if the free choice of card is a low card or high? I think there WAS 2 decks of card in the box and 1 for low and 1 for high... then he mastered both of them to make out whatever he wants with years of practice (sleight of hand).

  • @xWANDERMANx no just no

  • the music went so well with the magic trick

  • 2:17 - Teller is not impressed.

  • @lazix 6:14 Teller is impressed.

  • Comment removed

  • I call James Randi.

  • at least that's my guess

  • it's a rubics cube of blackmarks on the edges of the cards. all that "finding the card" biz was him organzing the lettering, the "Your" "card" and "is the" are his place finders he uses them to seperate the number/suit black edging from the OF.

  • i might be way off here but.. the person penn and teller threw the ball to only picked the color of the card, which didn't even matter because he never revealed that in the end. could the last 2 people who had the ball be somehow involved in the trick?

  • @mliniman umm its the nine of diamonds which is a red card? so the first person did matter..

  • @mliniman Because there are black diamonds?

  • @mliniman the colour removes 2 of the 4 suits.

  • Hey...thats the theme for House....Someone has a tumor!!!

  • I was backstage working when this was done, but signed a non-disclosure agreement, so I can't tell anyone. Or maybe I will, who knows.

  • @cocotazo You're full of shit.

  • There is someone in the table who puts one of 52 decks in the wood box from below. Remember he says the card aloud before walking over to the table and also takes care to hold the bottom of the box as to keep the "door" shut.it's like the "person gets in the box and disappears out a trap door" trick only smaller and sorta in reverse.

p.s. Don't give me any of that you cannot see seams where a trapdoor would be in the fuzzy felt topped table or the fuzzy felt bottomed wood box.

  • I don't know for sure but I assumed that someone could be under the table also. But I feel that the box never actually had a deck in it.. someone just gets the correct deck ready for the magician and hands it to him when he returns to the table.. and then using slight of hand he makes it look like it's coming out of the box.

  • @nynyisusa The deck is self contained. Nothing but the cards.

  • House theme song

  • NO

  • Did that man, for his trick, just use the House theme song?

  • that was great

  • this is just amazing!

  • Never heard lyrics in this song since I've ever only heard it on house

  • @getup2727 Teardrop by Massive Attack... naturally, it precedes the series.

  • it was the way he shuffled the deck

  • Comment removed

  • @ThinkTank255Easy huh? From your comment I can see you are not into magic, the handling of the deck was just like any regular decks, yes it can be a gimmick, but definitely not a pile of electronic displays. However you tried to act smart and this 'technology deck' you described is frankly quite ridiculous.

Believe in whatever you want to believe, and if you are interested, by any chance, the trick is called Spreadwave 2.0, google its reviews for more info. Cheers

  • @ThinkTank255 its not, and you're overthinking it by miles. they're real cards.. well.. "real" cards, but it has nothing to do with tech, its all about masterful control of the deck. nothing else.

  • @ThinkTank255 Forgot to add, this trick was the winner of 2006 Invention award FISM World Championships of Magic.

  • @12374808 Well, he must have spent a ton of time practicing. Not worth it in my opinion. The tech solution would have been smart.

  • I have this deck, it's just a very very clever trick, no force at all. Stop trying to come up with explanations, you wont unless you have the deck.

  • bacically its all got to do with the ballon. because it was red, the audience would pick red, it had pictures of diamonds on around the ballon, and to pick high card was just a natural instince, and if you look at 3:57 his left hand dissapereas with the other deck, which he puts into his pocket or under the table, and the no crd was just genius!

  • The box has two compartments, I don't know how they didn't figure that out...

  • I have the urge to go watch House now. I have no idea why though

  • @JoeDaH0 the song playing in the background sounds like the theme song to House haha

  • @robman8855 because it is -_-

  • finally penn fooled himself

  • Can someone help with this Spreadwave 2.0 as I am a magician or PM me - I would like to order this and was wondering if it is easy? Do you have to do difficult sleights? Can it be any card?? Is it angle sensitive etc? Can you do this table hopping?

  • Comment removed

  • thats fucking epic!

  • IF you notice, the letters are on multiple cards. There are 52 cards in a deck. There are 23 (abcdefghijklmnopqrstuv) usable letters in the deck of cards. He probably has calculated out the proper number of each letter and posted it- one on each card, most likely in alphabetical order. Furthermore, he probably has the marked cards as divisors to tell him where certain sections are so he only has to count a few numbers to figure out where each card is AND as a distraction from his special cutting

  • @lifeofanidiot If I'm right, all he needs to memorize is up to ten cards in any direction from the marked cards.

And upon further examination, each of the cards only has a small mark on it, like the F is made of two cards with differing symbols. this would make his job even easier.

  • @lifeofanidiot yes the dividers break up the 3 words, one is the face of the card, the 2nd is easy, its always going to be " OF ", and the 3rd is the suit. its a genius trick.

  • Fuck yeah Massive Attack !

  • How many combinations of side marked cards would it take to be able to "perfect shuffle" your phrase into position? You'd have to have the entire "blank" deck memorized and be a perfect shuffler... but I buy that this guy could be that.

  • BRILLIANT !!

  • Odd choice of tension music though...

  • the most amazing part of the trick is the part where HE CREATES THE TRICK!

  • thought about dr house the whole time lol

  • 'Son of a Bich'

  • Simple enuff! He only had 3 or 4 cards in the ball.

With a previous card arrangement to spell out any one of the cards, the deck was fixed or should I say stacked!

  • @EGMAG What cards in the ball?

  • what is the song

  • @theindymoguler massive attack teardrop

  • He just arranges the seemingly blank cards so that they spell the audience chosen card, simple but yet hard to do trick, he's able to spell any card just by arranging, both the order and the correct way up in the "blank" cards.

  • AMAZING VIDEO. I really like the selection process with the audience. Its unbeatable.

  • Thumbs up for the theme to "House"!!!

  • @KtangMC

    don't beg for thumbs up

  • @MathieuBich You are absolutely brilliant. Simply brilliant.

  • "NO!"... >:P

  • a wizard did it.

  • How often and how many people can actually out-smart the masters?!

  • @Neil1Blair i think four fooled them and they were all card tricks :)

  • That was the song from House.

  • I just ordered this fantastic trick and am looking forward to learning it.

  • LOVE Tellers reaction to the "No" in the box! Haha!

  • Holly shit that was awesome!!!!!

  • the way i see it, is there is all possible wording of card numbers and symbols in there and he just shuffles a certain algorithm to get the one mentioned.

  • Feels weird that both parties are magic industry players, and P&T didn't know about this trick that was on sale? I may be wrong, but it seems more like a way to promote a fellow magician friend's trick on TV.
