Where are the modern-day poet-songwriter-prophets?
Curtis' songs are as meaningful today, s when he wrote them, and that is the mark of a true artist, the ability to influence people, beyond the time of the art, and oneself!
I remember being rendered speechless the first time I heard this song. Nothing on the news could possibly rival the stark reality of the lyrics, set to some of the most beautiful arranging your ears have ever heard...unforgettable...All the more reason why we miss you, Curtis...
I will always love Curtis. I still cry about his passing. I had some of his old 33's. No one like him. "We the People Darker Than Blue" wow. @ least we have his recordings, photos of him. I'm gonna be 64 tomorrow. He's meant a lot to me since the late 60's.
Curtis is one of my musical heroes!!! They called him the gentle giant, words so true!!! Made songs to uplift our people, and now the music of today is totally erasing what dignity Curtis and other artists brought to black music! GHETTO BLACK CULTURE NEEDS TO BE ERADICATED!!!

You across the tracks.. completely relaxed.. you that a warning fact .. don't you every come back .. He's talking about our own people who made it out .. and sold out themselves for money fame power.. and feel no connection or responsibility to those left behind...
could someone send me the song or the album where the song is on? I'd really love to have it... heared it first on a godlike DJ-Selection of a psychedelic influenced chillout-DJ.
Thanks so much for posting this!!!!!! So many memories came to my mind after almost 40 years without this magic melody. It´s difficult to compare, but for me, Curtis could only be compared, in style, creativity, poetry, almost classical melodies to another obviously later cuban musician called Silvio Rodriguez, congratulations!!!!!!!! Alejandro from Argentina
I've been a Curtis fan for years and this is the first time I've heard this song which is sad 4 me, I love it vintage social conscious Curtis. Thanks for posting this

This song is like one of those classics. Also Raheem Devaughn sampled this song for his song "Bulletproof".
