  • FM opened several times for JHE. And Redding was good songwriter too. This is good!

  • I'm reading Noel's book and decided to stop in for a look. Hmm, not bad. Better than I expected. It's weird seeing Noel in his prime right in the middle of it in perfectly crisp clean video.

  • cool

  • I think this is actually spooky tooth

  • Is the lead singer the dude from the Jimi Hendrix experience?

  • @stewieandhomerrule Guitarist

  • Seventies (or late Sixties) drumming - great! Economical and tight - just look at that little break about two and a half minutes in. Nothing showy, no big gongs or climbing onto the kit - less is more.

  • not bad...thin pillow as jimi would say

  • simply brilliant! thanx for share it. Fat Mattress are unfortunatelly almost forgotten gem... god bless noel redding

  • @RobertLockwoodJr indeed, Redding is just GOLD

  • Thanks for posting. Historical significance. Had Noel been able to be content as the Experience' bassist, things would have gone better for him. Its great to see him playing guitar and singing.

  • Anyone else think Noel sings a bit like John Lennon on this song?

  • never heard this band before....brilliant stuff

  • Proper smokin stuff this ! Love Fat Matress i do..x

  • oh they opened for hendrix for sure. saw them and it was not too memorable. hendrix called them thin pillow.

  • @TheHeliumkid well I don't doubt it, the more popular hendrix got, the more stress he experinced the more big headed he got... still as a bassist I really dig Reddings music!

  • @TheHeliumkid He was a wag, wasn't he?

  • Fookin gudd shit this !!!

  • Utterly splendid - what an absolute treat. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @Prrzipiep Is that the Neil Landon who sang Lets Go To San Francisco with the Flowerpot men in 1967, think I recognize him from the video of the performance.

  • thin pillow

  • @LucasMarquesGHC i get it lol ................i wish hendrix did a little stand up comedy

  • @LucasMarquesGHC ...wow a Female Fat Mattress fan!....put a little something in my wine!

  • haha its funny how he just scat-sings the xylophone part

  • Does anyone know what microphones those are?

  • @hueymeister

    I think it's the legendary Sennheiser "MD 421 N"

    Best regards, Tom

  • Been playing there songs since they first released them. Good to see what they looked like

  • is this the only footage of them live? thanks for posting

  • Not sure but I dont think so. At least official footage. They only lasted 2 years, and 2 albums, being the second one so unsuccessful.

However, If Im not wrong, they played as openers with the JH Experience so there could be some interesting bootleg footage out there =)

    Glad you liked it

  • I seem to remember there being 2 more numbers from this gig they had at the beat club. Do you know where they could be?

  • "Magic Forest" and "Naturally", I think... I haven't seen the latter but Ill try to find it and upload both performances.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • Thank you. They were on youtube a while ago, but got taken off for some reason or another.

  • @testaferro Fat Mattress was part of a plan that "The Experience" (commonly known as the JH Experience) had to continue their musical careers. Jimi had "The Band of Gypsies" Noel "Fat Mattress" and I can't remember the drummer's Mitch Mitchell's band.

    GREAT FIND!

  • @darthboba11 Mitchel played in a collaborative band in late 1968 called "The Dirty Mac,"..also played in session work with Miles Davis for the famed album Bitches Brew, along with John McClaughlin, the famed folk blues guitarist who went on to form Mahavishnu Orch. and Shakti............

  • Aww man thanks so much for posting this. I love Fat Mattress!

  • You are welcome! Its a nice video and kinda rare!

    PS: Im a girl lol

  • X3 I love Neil Landon- But to hear Noel sing is just amazing!

And Hah, sorry, I call everyone that. ^o^'
