This song conjures up all the emotions you ever had and some you didn't know you had and explodes them all at once. In this case in ten minutes and seventeen seconds.
This song is only second to The Death of Music as not only my favorite Devin Townsend song, but the greatest song ever made. I've never heard a song like this with so much passion and force exerted into it, yet is pushed so beautifully into an almost godlike composition. It's cinematic, to an extent.
God bless you and your metal soul, Devin Townsend! \m/
I just found DT not even a week ago and I can't stop listening to this awesomeness. I'm 31 at work and my work has changed because of DT. It's been too long since I've heard something new that blows my mind, I was starting to lose hope, you are the future DT, many thanks again!
I really love this song, it may be somewhat repetitive for a little bit but I think that's what I like about it, as simple as the beat and riffs seem to be for the 2 minutes or so.
@barndawg77 dude dont be so childish. I just find your comment really lame, because devin would want you to play guitar. If he'd hear that you'd stop guitar playing, he would put his guitar down your throat
@barndawg77 & @fccctorres That is one of the most retarded things you could ever do. If anything Devin Townsend should be inspiring you to make your own music. Add your OWN COLOUR to the mix. That is all.
About the pitch non-shift, check out the newer album Ki. He'll build a song up to a logical conclusion and then run the other way with a really soft interlude out of nowhere. It's possible he overlooked it, sure, but it's just as likely that it was put there to evoke.
This song is so good.. one thing I always wondered though - when he is doing solos from like 4:00 or so.. why doesn't he go up in pitch at approximately 4:37 ?? He does it again at 5:15 a little bit. The chord progression sounds like it should go up!! Man that would be beautiful sounding. Not a complaint just an observation.
It's unfortunate when you believe something would sound better one way, and you expect that's it's coming, and then.. It doesn't. Erg. It's a troublesome feeling.
I don't mean to complain either, the song is wonderful as it is.
@BarbaricGoose It seems to me as if it did go up in pitch, as you say it should, the line would have more of a conclusion sound to it, if that makes sense to you... I think it would detract from the song because it would take away the intensity and momentum that the song has already built up at that point. But that's just my opinion!
The amount of emotion he pours into the moment at 5:24 is beyond understanding. Every time, *every time* I listen to this song, that part shears away any kind of emotional defenses I have. How he does this, I can't possibly imagine, but am eternally thankful for.
Who could ever hate devin's awesome music? Simply no one! If you feel like suicide and you have no reason to live, then you should just go to CD-store and buy some Townsend's albums. Thats a damn good enough reason to live! Real music forever!
I think that this should have been put on a movie soundtrack... maybe the movie 2012... Maybe because of the 'end of the world' lyric... I know that I would see that fucker just because of this song...
devin made the best albums the greatist sound means alot to me to feel something so important in my life come from his music i love all hes done great job devin =)

So many make the grade.
So many fail.
So many fade away."
Quite simply, nobody makes music like Devin. And when I have kids, they'll grow up listening to his stuff, and eventually, loving it as much as I do.
