I knew I would get pulled into your videos when I was here!! I LOVE pea soup - one of my favourites - yet I hardly ever treat myself to it!! I really want to make it soon and this has inspired me!!...I promise when I make it over to CA and we finally have our hike - I will bring you a bunch of marrowfat/mushy peas from the UK...lol (I so love knowing the perfect gift to bring someone!! :)...)...Hey! I have one of those tea balls...lol...Great video, Brian - I always love your videos!! :)
@xxxSunbeamxxx Hi Sunbeam. Gosh! I love pea soup too! Nothings quite as heartwarming on a cold winter day! But hey! I've heard you are having a heatwave there! With a mass exodus to the beaches! I can see you sipping a lemonade under a big parasol watching the kids with their sand buckets and shovels. What a pleasant picture!
@LoveMattersMost lol...I love your 'picture'! It is indeed sunny and gorgeous-most un-British! However, instead of the beach, you'll find me in my garden, mowing, trimming the edges, hanging the laundry to dry and sneaking the odd 20 mins to lie out and read some text book or other. That is how I spent today at least - I have a long wkd off work - so it's great to catch up on chores and studying! The closest I came to pea soup today, was making hummous salad wraps for me and my son - very yummy!
Try a pressure cooker, no soaking, no baking soda. It takes 15 minutes to go from dry peas to finished soup. Almost all the flavor says in the soup too. -- I'm wondering why you bother with the baking soda at all. It reduces the amount of niacin in the peas. It only takes 45 minutes to cook the soup without soaking or soda. Maybe some of the peas you like might sprout and you could grow them since they are whole. Then you could keep growing them.
@ContaMuir17a Oh, first of all..thanks very much for watching my video and taking the time to comment. I really appreciate it! : )
I just thought baking powder makes it cook faster, but your suggestion of a pressure cooker is brilliant. I was afraid to use a pressure cooker for fear it would foam up and clog it. But it it works for you, then I will give it a try too! : ) Brian.
@LoveMattersMost I just made some green split pea soup in the pressure cooker and it came out great. non stick too! I dont follow a receipe I just add some of this and some of that. I could live on this soup. I found a great vegan split pea soup on amazon you just add boiling water or nuke it for 3 minutes and let stand and it is delicious. Im going to experiment with laying mine out on wax paper in the dehydrator to see if I can add it to my emergency food stash.
@skittles1854 I like the way you think! You look for foods that are easy to make and tasty, but most of all, "you can live on the stuff." I couldn't agree more. Pea Soup is so filling and satisfying. It's hard to think of a better Emergency or Survival food. But I like to eat it a couple of times a week. My latest batch was made in a slow-cooker. Just throw all the ingredients in, walk away for 3-4 hrs. Then have a feast and eat it with bread. And with a slow-cooker, no baking soda is needed!

@LoveMattersMost ahahaha! I do too. I like the idea of them. ;) I know that as I get older I am trying more things. That pea soup you make, actually looked good, and I wanted to try some! So I guess there is a first time for everything.
@EmeraldxFairy Hi! Yes, there is something really satisfying about hot soups together with breads. This pea soup is one of my favs because it is thick, and full of nutrients and proteins. I get that wonderful satiated, contented feeling after eating it. : ) Brian.
Eh, eh, one thing I admire in Great Britain is the way they have developed things you can do with boiling water to almost an art form. There's tea, of course, and now I learn about the pea soup...
I have to admit that even though I'm not a huge fan of peas or soup this has a really nice look...
Oh, by the way if you say your videos are unprofessional, well they are the BEST unprofessional videos I’ve ever seen... If nothing else I always enjoy watching them, no matter the what the subject is.
@flan984 Hypothetically speaking: If I had to live my life as a creative artist, but I was allowed contact with only one other "commentor", I would choose you Rui. You supply all my "nutritional" food groups. You entertain, you educate, and you kindly support me when I falter..

You made look good. And for me that's saying something. Because I hate veggies.

@TheFaustianMan Hi Faust. I hope you can slowly learn to like veggies one day. They have so many good things in them. Your body will thank you!
