This virus is ugly. Lorena, Sjoerd, Anton, Edwin, Bianca, Lucas, Nina, Bram,etc. Anyone that came into contact with anyone could have it. This is complete fiction,but this is how a mass panic can quickly break out.
I know lucas can be a spoiled princess, but he always does what's right in the end. like just being there for Edwin when he needs him.
Also, is it just me, or is the resemblance of Lucas to Luke from ATWT getting more obvious lately? Blond, rich, spoilt, sometimes petty and childish but with a caring heart and both of them even have stepfathers and nearly the same name!
@palecobalt2 I know it seems a bit extreme, but people really can die that quickly. Some vital part of their body reacts the wrong way to whatever they've got and they're gone. Or whatever they've got simply overwhelms their system and they're gone.
uuugh, I can't watch this without thinking that everyone that comes in contact with everyone else is going to die. Ron in contact with Edwin, Edwin with Lucas, Lucas with whoever, it's just going to be one long chain of infected dying people :(
Why isn't Edwin being warned that he might be infected with a deadly virus? Anton should have given that other lady the finger and told him. Now he might have infected Lucas as well! Sigh... well, no one's ever accused Anton of making rational decisions.

Possible theory in this story: Sjoerd and Lucas and Bianca catches the virus, but all is well until Sjors had contracted it from Jack herself and the baby Bram himself from Sjors. Bram dead, everybody is mourning but the Bram story is solved, Sjoerd and Rikki will be never in distress again and finally move on..

@kghztrp thats okay, I get involved too. Unlike most people, i don't blame Edwin as much. He's young, his boyfriend was almost dead, his dad kept telling him to move, on, a cute guy who his dad liked was after him. It was a perfect storm for drama. So let's give Edwin and Lucas a chance to see if they can both work this out. All this drama has mad the both grow up a little. They are young and have to break up at some point, but hopefully not right now. They are really cute together.
Why wasn;t Ron put in iisolation the moment he came in to the hospital? I am a real sogtie when Lucad took Edwin in his arms to confort him I had tears in my eyes.
The events in 307 and 308 happened to me, as they did to Edwin, three times. The first person to die was named Ron and died in a hospital bed after giving me a deathbed speech. Because he was also the Lucas in my life, there was no one to hold me when I cried after everyone died. These two episodes hit home so hard that I had to watch them several times so that I could get through them without crying.
@Z325i Ron works long hours and was stressed over losing Edwin. Thus he may have been more vulnerable from the beginning. -OR- They had to kill Kevin's character (Ron) because Kevin's contract with GTST was over.
as everyone has already said. that's not how you react to a virus. and hesitant to release information about a possible virus? wow. i'd like to see ludwin survive this. and by survive, i mean make it out alive.

@kondoumiharu well, Edwin doesn't know about the virus although he should have gotten suspicious when his Dad kept backing away from him. He went home to change I assume when Lucas came by. And I've had my son's blood on me from cutting his mouth open and so I can understand running around in bloody shirt till you get home to change.
@KETTYKISH yeah it was kind of abrupt, it would have been nice for them to perhaps have brought in another older gay character to complemnt him. Then we'd seen two gay couples or even ron and some random gay fellas would have been good. If 1/3 of the worlds population is gay ... then why only one gay storyline. But hey, I live in the US where there are barely any black characters on a show ... so let's cheer for at least one gay couple. Yay!

NOT! What does a doctor and a teenager have in common to sustain a relationship? It was not a good pairing to begin with.

What corresponds to high school lasts one year longer than in the US, which means that, last season, Edwin was in what we would call the 13th grade. Students have to pass a comprehensive exam to get a diploma. Edwin flunked it and has to repeat that year. That makes Edwin the same age as a sophomore in a US college. He could be about 20, and the age difference is not scandalous.

So now the ebola virus is running rampant through the town and soon everyone will be stricken ill. Loved that Lucas ran to his love to soothe him. And was it me or was he looking most scrumdelish (that wiyks would be scrumptious and delicious at once) in this episode. /There was something very mature about him. loved it.
Finally some contact. Even just that hug was perfect. I don't know what it is exactly, but they just look so completely right together. They click.
And we must remember this is a soap outbreak. Protocol would have been high alerts and quarantines and the strictest handling, but that's all got to be background to what effects the threat has in face-to-face moments and interactions.
And I love how even though Lucas has to be fair to himself and protect his heart, he'll always do anything for Ed.
Of course it has to be a virus from Africa, as if the continent's pr isn't bad enough already! There are 53 countries on the African continent and a wealth of culture, languages, arts, etc... and yet all western countries harp on are the negatives. Europe also has its fair share of uncontrollable viruses: mad cow disease anyone?
@Lolalai I like your objectivity. My husband lived in England in his late teens and now at 40, they will no longer allow him to donate blood because he might have mad cow disease? Really? Okay, if that's the way you want it even though he was an apheresis donor for 10 years. Africa is always treated like the red headed step child and the scape goat for everything. @Lolalai Ebola is a good template for a soap-opera disease. The Ebola virus was in Africa, so one of the characters had to bring it home from there. When I was in my masters program, at least one member of every group that went to Africa got an exotic illness. My mother's Nigerian nurse's aide remarked that Americans get sick easily. My conclusion: Africa has more diseases and Africans are more robust.
EVERYONE who came into contact with Jack and Ron would be quarantined...the hospital staff, family, friends....locked up with no outside contact. Any physician who did this in the U.S. would lose their license and likely go to jail. Oh wait....this is a TV show....
@trythinkingnow I had a friend who was in the hospital. They determined he had an infectious disease and put him in isolation. It took them about a day to do that.
The Ludwin moment at the end was bittersweet. Lucas took one look at Edwin and knew that he was wrong, and that Edwin needed him. Nothing else mattered. I feel so bad for Anton, he obviously wanted to tell Edwin, but at the same time he's not wanting to create widespread panic. I don't agree with the secrecy, but I'm sure decisions like this aren't easy either. He was struggling thinking about his child being infected with a deadly disease. I just hope they don't kill Edwin off. Thanks, Mark!
@Spherical07 yes, i could watch those last 45 seconds a million times, it's so heart wrenching and the look on Lucas' face as he moves from "what" to "I'm here for you" is amazing. Both Ferry and Raynor are phenomenal at showing arcs of emotion. And as for Anton. Heck, I'm a parent, there is NO way I'm allowing my child to be in danger. Screw protocol. One person is dead ... I'm not risking my child. Parents kill for less. So that part of the story is a tad unrealistic.
After reading almost all comments it seems like everyone (and also I) don't understand why Edwins Dad didn't do anything immedeatly to safe his son from getting sick. >.<
@faindt Anton did do something immediately. He told Edwin that the blood was dangerous and told him to sit and wait. Edwin sat and waited, but left when Anton wasn't watching. Anton had just said it would take a week after exposure to develop symptoms and become contagious, so sitting for five or ten minutes was perfectly safe. Anton wasn't counting on Edwin disobeying him.
I just can't believe that Edwin's father, didn't immediately think of the safety of his son, and make sure that he was washed up .... He so did not act like a doctor or a father.
@boxfree22 I disagree, I felt Anton was very worried for his son's safety, but at this point soap and water are not likely to do anything. The blood was dried, and it doesn't take much [bodily fluid] to infect a person when you're talking about such types of diseases. There was distress all over Anton's face as he sat with Edwin.
@walkingkodi This had nothing to do with the budget and everything to do with the story, which is planned and written long in advance. They hired Kevin Hassing to play the role of Ron Bos for a limited number of episodes to add a dramatic complication to Lucas' coma. Everything went as planned. Even though Kevin wasn't hired for a permanent role, his resume now includes a successful run on one of the most popular TV shows in the Netherlands. Not bad for Kevin!
Seriously Anton if knows what Jack has that its a virus.He should put Edwin isolation take off his clothes and test to see if his sick or something.I for sure would like to see Edwin strip that clothes off lol.But anyway his letting Edwin walk around and give the virus to everyone he cares about.Great acting with Raynor his doing such a good job.Ludwin hug was so sweet and loving.
@ludwinlunatics: Edwin was already exposed, the damage was already done, there was plenty of time to clean him up and admit him for examination, so Anton told him not to leave. Edwin had just been through a trauma and it was reasonable to assume that he was stunned by it and wouldn't leave. Edwin was in the emergency room, the doctor (his father) told him to stay where he was. Anton did everything correctly. Edwin disobeyed doctor's instructions.
Edwin please get out of those clothes for everyones sake, damn Anton for being a doctor you are pretty lame instead of saving the town from the virus everything gets worse. I swear if either lucas or Edwin dies the writers will get to know me -.-
And I was really proud of Lucas when he swallowed his pride and came to see Edwin and gave him a hug. That kiss in the neck from Lucas to soothe Edwin was really sweet..
@Maatjuhhh I've been hoping that the writers would make him more mature and less drama queen like this year. And with the whole breaking up with Edwinthing I despaired...BUT this new side of him I'm liking a lot. He even looks mature when he's comforting him. All grown up. Love it.
Edwin's father is an idiot for wasting his time talking to her. He should have made his son strip out of those clothes for us, er, I mean his health and safety!

A little infatuation/crush goes away it ifs not fed, he simply went with Ron because Lucas told him to take a hike. However let's hope that one of these soaps is brave enough to make more than one gay couple on a show so not everytime a gay character comes on, does there have to be a triange or a bust up. That doesn't happen with straight people does it? Just a thought.
Everyones talking about virus. I did not like Ron much but I would have like to have felt the emotion of his death a bit more. surprise death at the end of 1 episode then not much in the next one. Edwin does not deserve to be the only one to cry over Ron!!!!

Are all the doctors in Meerdijk stupid or what??? Anton is behaving like Ron just had a cold instead of a deadly disease. Instead of letting Edwin sit in the waiting room, he should have locked him and Lorena in an isolation ward! At this rate, the whole town will be wiped out.
Could it be that all the people possibly infected will now end in quarantine?? And that this huge fail by the writers (Not quarantining ppl emidiately) actually had a reason??? That reason being to get both Lucas and Edwin quarantined, so that having no way of "escaping" they will finally have a good talk????
Er.... this has to be the most bizarre, far-fetched plot device we've ever had here in GTST. Turning Marco and Wiet into psycho mass killers was pretty way out there. But those zany transformations were "developed", so to speak, over a period of some time. But this - !? Ron has been killed off in ... minutes. One moment Jack is ill with a mystery virus, then Ron is bleeding, then Ron is dead. What on earth? Stay away from Dutch hospitals seems to be the message. Especially if you're a doctor!
I'm pretty sure that dutch doctors have strict guidelines on infectious diseases and when to contact the authorities and when to put someone in isolation.
This whole thing is ridiculous and has nothing to do with reality.
Yeah, I love how Jack's the only one in quarantine when multiple people have been exposed now and instead of quarantining them as well right away, they just get free reign to come and go as they please, lol. Oh show. I'm going to have to give you an epic fail on that one.

Can anyone who speaks Dutch answer a quick question for me? I often hear the characters on GTST use a word that sounds like "uzo". It's always translated as "how" or "why", and yet, in all the dictionaries I've checked, "how" is always "hoe", and "why" is "waarom". Is this "uzo" term something like a slang, and if so, how would one translate the term by itself? Also, what's the correct way to spell it? Lucas and Edwin are so addicting that they've prompted me to study Dutch...

But clearly Lucas has come such a long way, that now I think he's the one who deserves someone stronger, drama queen and all. Sadly Ron has died but I hope the writers know that neither Lucas or Edwin is allowed to die...they're just getting back on track...plus Lucas has been threw a lot laterly give the poor handsome man a break.

@jolanza2006 I liked Ron as a character, but never as a 3rd party to get between our boys. The whole storyline rang false from the start. I think killing him off like that was just overkill. I know that soap couples are not supposed to be sunshine and roses all the time, but Ludwin has never really had any peace. Except for the brief period between when Anton got them back together and Luca's coma. Enough is enough! Let them be happy for a minute before the next crisis hits them.

Possible theory in this story: Sjoerd and Lucas and Bianca catches the virus, but all is well until Sjors had contracted it from Jack herself and the baby Bram himself from Sjors. Bram dead, everybody is mourning but the Bram story is solved, Sjoerd and Rikki will be never in distress again and finally move on..

He's young, his boyfriend was almost dead, his dad kept telling him to move, on, a cute guy who his dad liked was after him. It was a perfect storm for drama. So let's give Edwin and Lucas a chance to see if they can both work this out. All this drama has mad the both grow up a little. They are young and have to break up at some point, but hopefully not right now. They are really cute together.

The events in 307 and 308 happened to me, as they did to Edwin, three times. The first person to die was named Ron and died in a hospital bed after giving me a deathbed speech. Because he was also the Lucas in my life, there was no one to hold me when I cried after everyone died. These two episodes hit home so hard that I had to watch them several times so that I could get through them without crying.

What corresponds to high school lasts one year longer than in the US, which means that, last season, Edwin was in what we would call the 13th grade. Students have to pass a comprehensive exam to get a diploma. Edwin flunked it and has to repeat that year. That makes Edwin the same age as a sophomore in a US college. He could be about 20, and the age difference is not scandalous.

And we must remember this is a soap outbreak. Protocol would have been high alerts and quarantines and the strictest handling, but that's all got to be background to what effects the threat has in face-to-face moments and interactions.
And I love how even though Lucas has to be fair to himself and protect his heart, he'll always do anything for Ed.

@Lolalai Ebola is a good template for a soap-opera disease. The Ebola virus was in Africa, so one of the characters had to bring it home from there. When I was in my masters program, at least one member of every group that went to Africa got an exotic illness. My mother's Nigerian nurse's aide remarked that Americans get sick easily. My conclusion: Africa has more diseases and Africans are more robust.

The Ludwin moment at the end was bittersweet. Lucas took one look at Edwin and knew that he was wrong, and that Edwin needed him. Nothing else mattered. I feel so bad for Anton, he obviously wanted to tell Edwin, but at the same time he's not wanting to create widespread panic. I don't agree with the secrecy, but I'm sure decisions like this aren't easy either. He was struggling thinking about his child being infected with a deadly disease. I just hope they don't kill Edwin off. Thanks, Mark!

@Spherical07 yes, i could watch those last 45 seconds a million times, it's so heart wrenching and the look on Lucas' face as he moves from "what" to "I'm here for you" is amazing. Both Ferry and Raynor are phenomenal at showing arcs of emotion. And as for Anton. Heck, I'm a parent, there is NO way I'm allowing my child to be in danger. Screw protocol. One person is dead ... I'm not risking my child. Parents kill for less. So that part of the story is a tad unrealistic.

@faindt Anton did do something immediately. He told Edwin that the blood was dangerous and told him to sit and wait. Edwin sat and waited, but left when Anton wasn't watching. Anton had just said it would take a week after exposure to develop symptoms and become contagious, so sitting for five or ten minutes was perfectly safe. Anton wasn't counting on Edwin disobeying him.

The blood was dried, and it doesn't take much [bodily fluid] to infect a person when you're talking about such types of diseases. There was distress all over Anton's face as he sat with Edwin.

They hired Kevin Hassing to play the role of Ron Bos for a limited number of episodes to add a dramatic complication to Lucas' coma. Everything went as planned. Even though Kevin wasn't hired for a permanent role, his resume now includes a successful run on one of the most popular TV shows in the Netherlands. Not bad for Kevin!

@ludwinlunatics: Edwin was already exposed, the damage was already done, there was plenty of time to clean him up and admit him for examination, so Anton told him not to leave. Edwin had just been through a trauma and it was reasonable to assume that he was stunned by it and wouldn't leave. Edwin was in the emergency room, the doctor (his father) told him to stay where he was. Anton did everything correctly. Edwin disobeyed doctor's instructions.

Er.... this has to be the most bizarre, far-fetched plot device we've ever had here in GTST. Turning Marco and Wiet into psycho mass killers was pretty way out there. But those zany transformations were "developed", so to speak, over a period of some time. But this - !? Ron has been killed off in ... minutes. One moment Jack is ill with a mystery virus, then Ron is bleeding, then Ron is dead. What on earth? Stay away from Dutch hospitals seems to be the message. Especially if you're a doctor!

It's always translated as "how" or "why", and yet, in all the dictionaries I've checked, "how" is always "hoe", and "why" is "waarom". Oh this has the potential to be a really good storyline. Is Edwin infected? Will he get sick? Will Lucas stand by him? I can't wait!

@samanthapetrelli When the camera cut away Ron spit-up blood that splashed on Edwin's chest. (say this with me... "its a soap... ) Did you notice the beep- flatline sound when Ron died... and he wasn't connected??? (lets say it again... "its a soap")

I don't want Ron die too. But to be honest, I love the way Lucas treated Edwin. Lucas is an drama queen but when Edwin need him, he's always be there, doesn't care about himself anymor

@trungnhanvo Yeah, in the past Lucas needed to get over himself so badly and I was happy when Ron arrived. But clearly Lucas has come such a long way, that now I think he's the one who deserves someone stronger, drama queen and all. Here's hoping for a happy 2012 for those two, if they don't die obviously. ; )

Sadly Ron has died but I hope the writers know that neither Lucas or Edwin is allowed to die...they're just getting back on track...plus Lucas has been threw a lot laterly give the poor handsome man a break.

I may be the biggest Ron hater out there, but they really didn't need to kill him off like that!This is just another obstacle for Ludwin to hurdle yet again. Can't these 2 ever catch a break? Here's hoping 2012 brings some much needed peace and love to our boys.

@jenn1916 Thanks for saying that. I liked Ron, but wanted Ludwin together. He didn't deserve to die. But Edwin better not get infected, let alone Lucas!

@jolanza2006 I liked Ron as a character, but never as a 3rd party to get between our boys. The whole storyline rang false from the start. I think killing him off like that was just overkill. I know that soap couples are not supposed to be sunshine and roses all the time, but Ludwin has never really had any peace. Except for the brief period between when Anton got them back together and Luca's coma. Enough is enough! Let them be happy for a minute before the next crisis hits them.
