  • Crosby has an incredibly warm and friendly voice...sounding effortless, but obviously not. Great version of a great song.

  • The version on Byrds 73 is great, but this is really amazing. So in control of his voice at this point.

  • Was this ever recorded on an album???

  • Love this song... this is a nice version... I think they were dating at one time, not sure if it was now. .

  • Was this a Crosby concert, exclusively?

"Cross-pollination" seems to be the norm these days, which offends me. I almost forgot that back in the day, this wasn't typically done. Crosby is so modest and almost apologizing for singing Joni; who better to play her music than him (among a few others, of course).

  • perfect last six words

  • This is sensitively played and a tribute to Joni Mitchell who is an amazing writer, but you are too David...

  • Can anyone find the great album (live) Allies

  • yes, i got it.

  • Yes, I have it too.

  • i first heard this on allies, but i am canadian and knew about joni.awesome song and performance.5 stars.

  • me too. on vinyl

  • I first heard this on the Byrds Reunion album. This song stuck out to me as one of the strong ones on that album.

  • LMAO

  • It was Joni Mitchell that went shopping

  • David is a harmony singer, and he is phenomenal at it. Even he says that's what he is really about. He once said in an interview that he was put on this planet to sing harmony. However, I think he has done some really good lead vocals, like on "Guinnevere" and "Long Time Gone". He's just not as cut out for it as Stephen, Graham, Neil, or Roger, and nobody in this universe is as cut out for it as Joni.

  • I slightly disagree with you. I think David Crosby is a phenomenal harmony singer, like you do, but i think he is an equaly phenomenal lead singer, i can´t think of any reason to consider him inferior as a lead singer.

  • In the Byrds, he was the 2nd biggest writer. After Gene Clark left he was 1st. You have to understand the importance of writing behind the music, creation and harmony.

  • thanks for posting !

  • This is a very great cover of this song. A very very close second to the one and only Joni Mitchell.

  • David Crosby discovered Joni Mitchell performing at a "Coffee House" in New York. He brought her back to California, and the rest, as they say, is history.

  • Around the time he met Joni Mitchell, Crosby himself said that the music he wrote ever since was inspired by her. Mitchell's first album, Joni Mitchell [aka Song to a Seagull] (1968), was produced by Crosby.

  • I understand Crosby feeling that way. Discovering Joni Mitchell's music cured my five years of writers block.

  • Thank you so much. The version on "Allies" (vinyl only, unfortunately) is IMHO the best solo vocal performance in the whole genre of rock or whatever you want to call it, by the man with the best voice. This is right up there with. Makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up.

  • I really love his voice.

  • i have been trying to find this song everywhere. thank you!

  • Wow, really nice. My mom plays the original around the house all the time.

  • What is this from? Who is he talking with?

  • It's from a solo concert at Farleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey March 16, 1974. He's interacting with the audience.

  • Joni is great, but this has so much more to it
