Winwood and Capaldi pull off some amazing Voices and Harmonies on this ancient tune ,this is not an easy feat by any means :Wood's Flute is Magic : "Traffic" was a One of a Kind and This is 100 Proof ....
@DYNODRUM still to this day is one of my favorite traffic tunes, always enjoy winwood and Capaldi singing together. Also check out their Far From Home cd when the two of them reunited
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Yes Agree, they were Quite Unique ,and are becoming a rarer Band to look at. Seen ,them Live in 71' in N.Y. Felt like a one of a Kind experience. Thanks for Reply//
Why do people argue about these lyrics so much. It's simple. A song of irony. John Barleycorn is...drum roll...Barley. The people figure out how to use "him" to their own benefit by "abusing" him(cut him down at the knees) at the prime of his life. But he has the last laugh by becoming brandy and destroying them or making them dependent. Love it.

the original english manuscript of this song is nearly 450 years old, but Traffic's version is timeless.
