@laSKJDFNA ... its because im amazing lol, the video quality was just ok but converting/uploading to youtube made it worse... its actually easy to see the cones in person, i just keep forgetting which ones to go threw next :p
straight cut is the angle of the tooth on the gear, normal (helical) are for example at a 45 were straight is at a 90. yes they work in the 'H' patern (my car is) . and yes they will work in a stock trans case but the stock gears are replaced with the aftermarket straight cuts and the shafts that they mount on may have to be changed aswell
is the angle of the gear what makes the whining noise?
if i swapped for strait cut gears on my stock gearbox would i have to revmatch on downshifts and have clutchless upshift or can you have strait cut gears with the wicked acceleration but maintain the regular way of shifting and still be a daily driver?
yup the angle makes the whine, like most vehicals reverse gear is straight cut.. the shifting depends on the gear selection type that you chose, syncro is stock style for smooth normal shifts, dog is what lets you shift without the clutch. to clutchless upshift you just ease off the gas and firmly move the shifter to the next gear, to clutchless downshift is more timing/memory when you are on the brakes and rpm is droping wait till rpm is within range of the lower gear and pop it in.
@renagadex1000 could have said it better. you cant be gentle with these dogs when shifting too, else you'll start wearin down the teeth more rapidly. Gotta be firm shifts. Once you get the hang of the new shift pattern, it'll be worth it. :)
@unclesonnyonutube its the physical "slapping" of the gear teeth that makes the sound, whereas a helical cut gears teeth roll/slide across each other more gently. Helical gears are mistakenly labeled as weaker than straight cuts which is completely false, helical gears will hold more torque. Also the wear much slower, straight cut is cheaper to make and faster to make custom gears for which is good for racing. Although many straight cut "dog boxes" use a much rougher yet stronger dog engagement.
(spur) Striaght cut gears mean that the edge of the teeth are straight and parallel to the rotation of the gear. Advantages are that you don't need the clutch on up shifts and they can take more power and don't need a synchromesh so yo can change gear quicker, thats why they are used on race cars and motorbikes. They are't used on normal cars as they whine due to the teeth 'tapping' at the point of contact. They are used on reverse gear as they are cheaper to produce than helical gears.
the old MK1 Mini coopers had a straight cut gearbox, that was normal e.g. clutch and a stick like an everyday car. the gears are literally cut straight, not diagonally which means a better contact... but LOUD WHINE, like a wind up torch =D
straight cut means how are the teeth turned on the gears. on your ordinary transmission you have helical or something like that that means that the teeth are sideways. straight cut gears are straight youst tipe straight cut into google and youll find it
How on earth does he know where to go????

what exactly is the definition of strait cut?
can you have strait cut gears on a regular shift pattern?
without a sequential dogbox...
can you have your stock transmission "strait cut" or am i just a dumbass...i dont know much about how transmissions work....... just bear with me

straight cut... more surface area of the gears are in contact with each other, thus increases the transfer of energy
