  • Al Jolson and Judy Garland shouldn't recognize Arethas version of Dixie Melody if they heard it. lol

  • Arethas voice on full display here. However, she has always been underrated as a pianist.

  • reeree and Marvin all in show time hitch hike we miss you Marvin

  • Not only did she look cute, but slim and boy can she wail on any song she sings.

  • The God Father of Soul himself James Brown!

  • useless commentary for d-bags who wanna be experts on music found below.

  • Come here mama....and dig this crazy scene!

  • anyone who can't dig JB need to check they self

  • Michael Jackson got all of his moves from James Brown.

  • Thanks for posting this. There are so many of us that otherwise would NEVER get to see and hear this footage

  • James Brown is moving so fine. Maybe he's the father Michael Jackson ;-))))

  • @Checosa70 That woulda been real nice! But the world probably would've exploded with two pieces of dynamite in one family!!! ;) . . .hey, at least he would've gotten treated a helluva lot better, IMO :o

  • Aretha was DELICIOUS back then, ohhh lawrd!!

  • lovin it, thanks for posting

  • Look at James's fantastic foot work! man he was the man back then!

  • I saw James Brown a year before he died when I was 20. I'm glad I went to his live show.

  • I saw James Brown in concert about 7 years ago. His voice was probably more powerful than ever (although he couldn't make the moves anymore; he did do "the ditty" for about 10 seconds.

Aretha Franklin remains my very favorite female singer. In fact, all three of these performers are among my favorite Motown'ers.

As for the dancers, well. . . In those days they didn't look goofy to us. At least they danced.

  • The only thing I hate. They always have to insert goofy white dancers into the mix. James was on fire.

  • Racist hate speech

  • @PatsBooks

I saw James Brown in person in the late 60s. Third or fourth row from the stage. The guy was smoking hot!!! And no goofy dancers to ruin the show. ;)

  • Yeah, good point. If they didn't do that whites probably wouldn't have tuned in to those kinds of television shows. Remember, they didn't want to see too many "niggers" on prime time television.

  • @NkrumahTure you are right if anyone know history at the time it's was very hard to see james brown or any black singer on TV at the time if they wanted to be shown in the south but be glad that times did change and singers like james brown was a reason why

  • 3 glasses of milk a day!!! jeez.

I wish I could have seen Marvin perform live.

  • But were the beach boy's singing backup up for Marvin?

  • Aretha's swinging!

  • For vitalityyyyy.. lol, classic :D

  • thats a BAAD man

  • great music, performance, nice video... thanks a lot for posting

  • marvin can dance if, you can see him through the credits.

  • Three giants of all times. This is a number 7 rated video. Music for a warm Sunday evening full of memories. What golden memories.

  • Marvin could sing, but dancing wasn't his gig. He sure tried though.

  • No one moved like JB, you can't take your eyes off those feet

  • Aretha was looking cute there...just had to say that since we all know her voice is just beyond!

  • he is working the hell out of that little platform! the 3 guys on the left & the 3 girls on the right was more than enuff background dancing--but the chicks dancing waaay off beat in the very back looked ridiculous.

  • @ciccocenta Well, that was kinda the way things were; if it were Pat Boone showcasing, the producers and directors would've prompted everybody on how to behave and flow with the lead guy/girl. But since it was James or any other black artist, then it wasn't necesary. Maybe not always but that happened enough times to see the difference.

  • @ciccocenta And then again, medium, funky rhthymic movements weren't part of the rock/pop dance genre.

  • @woodie62 ...but awkward uncoordinated off beat ones were? LOL

  • Go Marvin!!!!

  • James Brown was the smoothest, coolest, and finest brother back in the day! Love the way he ran his hand down the crease of his pants!lol

  • The person recording this did an excellent job. James Bown was something else.

  • Pappa's got a brand new bag! FAR OUT!!

  • i didnt know aretha can play a piano go girl

  • oh HELL yes!!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh yeah!! In fact when Smokey Robinson met her in 1946 through her older brother Cecil, she was playing like a prodigy. He along with Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, & George Michael all sang her praises on a PBS Documentary in the 1980's.

  • James Brown, James Brown. I don't think i know of anyone who better express themselves through their dance then Jame Brown.

  • james was the man - made soul cool and put the b in r&b as in real bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CATHLAB2007 Yeah, but those feet!!! One of the smoothest dancers to come out of RnB. . . only rivaled by Master Mike himself. RIP both 'em . . .

  • James Brown truly amazing!!!!!!

Aretha was a pretty little lady

    Do that hitchhike Marvin

  • Come down sista...Pappa's gotta brand new bag

  • ITS BACK!! Thanks for posting this... this is one of my favorite performances of Aretha Franklin!

  • the interpretation of Aretha is the best, yes she is electrifying

  • Nice Aretha on the piano, a rare clip of that! She learned several insts. growing up in her dad's church.

  • James could outdance Michael Jackson up until the day he died. And - Sings much much better too. You always lose the best and the worst hang on.

  • @mpmikemp I know this is 2 years old but I gotta disagree with ya on one thing: James did have a wider range vocally. But they both were equals to me. They both were precision dancers(James understandably cause he was short) But Michael was tall and that alone made it amazing the things he did!! Both became legends in their own times!!!! RIP to James, Mike and Marvin. . . .

  • I miss Marvin

  • Ladies and Gentlemen.....the Electrifying Aretha Franklin!!!

  • This Man is cool he even has A cool walk.
