@Checosa70 That woulda been real nice! But the world probably would've exploded with two pieces of dynamite in one family!!! ;) . . .hey, at least he would've gotten treated a helluva lot better, IMO :o
I saw James Brown in concert about 7 years ago. His voice was probably more powerful than ever (although he couldn't make the moves anymore; he did do "the ditty" for about 10 seconds.
Aretha Franklin remains my very favorite female singer. In fact, all three of these performers are among my favorite Motown'ers.
As for the dancers, well. . . In those days they didn't look goofy to us. At least they danced.
I saw James Brown in person in the late 60s. Third or fourth row from the stage. The guy was smoking hot!!! And no goofy dancers to ruin the show. ;)
Yeah, good point. If they didn't do that whites probably wouldn't have tuned in to those kinds of television shows. Remember, they didn't want to see too many "niggers" on prime time television.
@NkrumahTure you are right if anyone know history at the time it's was very hard to see james brown or any black singer on TV at the time if they wanted to be shown in the south but be glad that times did change and singers like james brown was a reason why
he is working the hell out of that little platform! the 3 guys on the left & the 3 girls on the right was more than enuff background dancing--but the chicks dancing waaay off beat in the very back looked ridiculous.
@ciccocenta Well, that was kinda the way things were; if it were Pat Boone showcasing, the producers and directors would've prompted everybody on how to behave and flow with the lead guy/girl. But since it was James or any other black artist, then it wasn't necesary. Maybe not always but that happened enough times to see the difference.
Oh yeah!! In fact when Smokey Robinson met her in 1946 through her older brother Cecil, she was playing like a prodigy. He along with Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Whitney Houston, & George Michael all sang her praises on a PBS Documentary in the 1980's.
@mpmikemp I know this is 2 years old but I gotta disagree with ya on one thing: James did have a wider range vocally. But they both were equals to me. They both were precision dancers(James understandably cause he was short) But Michael was tall and that alone made it amazing the things he did!! Both became legends in their own times!!!! RIP to James, Mike and Marvin. . . .
Al Jolson and Judy Garland shouldn't recognize Arethas version of Dixie Melody if they heard it. lol

Arethas voice on full display here. However, she has always been underrated as a pianist.

The only thing I hate. They always have to insert goofy white dancers into the mix. James was on fire.

@ciccocenta And then again, medium, funky rhthymic movements weren't part of the rock/pop dance genre.
