Judy had a great figure no wonder Burt Reynolds went bonkers after divorcing her. Poor Burt looks Chinese now. I bet he looked Chinese then too when he banged Judy! I know I would...WHOO HOO
Bloody is still used, as is smashing, usually while wearing a bowler hat, and dancing around London's chimmny pots, eating fish and chips! Do Americans still say 'Gee wizz and Aww shucks" while driving 50ft cars, eating burgers the size of Texas, and marring their cousins? :-)
I remember "Laugh-In" from when it first began; I watched it every week without fail in the '60s. I thought Judy was funny, since I still like slapstick, but unfortunately her quick burst of fame was so completely connected with this phrase - and her falling through trap doors - that she wasn't able to have much of a career beyond it.
@hebneh actuall she had quite a career, she was in a long running USA Tv show prior to laugh in. She also was in Bonanza the long running cowboy series, she starred in several films and played all over the USA in her one woman caberet. After Burt Reynolds she was married again to an abusive guy and she broke her neck in a car accident and took to using drugs which was her downfall.
Yes the show would take a fad saying and run it into the ground.. SOCK IT TO ME, HERE COME DA JUDGE, GROOVY, THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT ... etc... Still love the show though.. but you had to have grown up with it to really get it
This is part of a long film (about 12 min) Judy did with Arte Johnson shown to salesmen of a well known manufacturer of freezers. Judy makes it worth viewing.
@leudrerrep, yeah, the Laugh-In crowd were great. Too young to remember them first time round, but I've seen tapes. This would've inspired Dee-Lite's Groove video. The whole thing was inspired from things 20-25 years earlier
saw an episode of Bonanza today with Ms. Carne guest starring but didn't know her name, so I searched episode guides until I found out who she was and have watched about an hour worth of her stuff here on you tube today...fixated.....hot for sure...she was a lot younger on the Bonanza episode, too......couldn't have been over 18....gorgeous.....even wearing a nun outfit
This is one show that doesn't hold up very well these days. It was ground-breaking in it's time, (even if it was also derivative of Ernie Kovacs ), but somehow the shows that strive to be the most up-to-date wind-up aging the most because they become stuck in a moment in time.
@blacflag My comment still applies. I loved Laugh-in when I was teenager but don't feel it holds up well, whether this is an actual clip from it or not. There are many clips from the show on U-Tube and thay come off as cruel to the women and not very funny. And, of course the "topicality" of the show makes it out of date for later generations.
@44032 , The show is very '60s, yes, but I still like it for what it is. (pleasant memories of seeing the reruns as syndies and on N@N) Maybe because I have an appreciation for that time period and the past in general, and its pop culture (which seems to be lost on most of today's society...but that's a soapbox rant for another day)
Seriously, is there the chance this will be confiscated WHILE I'm watching it? This enjoyer of unconvential beauty thanks blac flag for this video. I'd nearly forgotten how HOT "Judes" was!
This is my Great Cousin I think, she is my Grandfathers Cousin so perhaps that should be great great Cousin! Born Joyce Botterill in 1939 in Nothampton. My birth name was Darren Botterill.
This is definitely what you call a "novelty" record. The way she makes "sock it to me" sound like a sexual innuendo is actually in keeping with the original meaning of the phrase -- it began as black slang pertaining to the sex act.
Judy Carne was a 100% pure knockout. That girl's body was amazing! I'm 27 and I just recently purchased the best of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In vol.1 and I am thrilled to be learning about this program.
A lot of teenage boys tuned in to "Laugh-In" every week just to see Judy Carne and Goldie Hawn dancing in their bikinis. Hmmm . . . Goldie or Judy? Ginger or Mary Ann?
YES! Jo Anne was so loud and boisterous that it made her both lovable and unforgetable. I loved it when she kissed Don Rickles just before they socked it to him instead of Judy.
Well, Jo Anne was certainly no shrinking violet, personality-wise. I was commenting on her physical appearance. Not really an unattractive woman, but . . . a BIG woman!
I see what you mean now. Yes, she wasn't like the other girls. While the others (i.e. Goldie & Judy) were dancing around in very little clothing she was in her usual sequin dress and feather boa. What about Lily Tomlin or Ruth Buzzy?
Ruth Buzzi was not exactly a beauty, but she was a chameleon who could make herself look like a glamorous movie star or the frumpy Gladys character at the drop of a hat. As for the thought of scrawny, horse-faced Lily Tomlin (who I never thought was THAT funny) in a bikini -- DON'T EVEN GO THERE!
We don't have to worry about Lily Tomlin anyway. She bats for the other team if you know what I mean. So, when it comes to wearing bikinis, Goldie & Judy are alone in that world but that's a world that I would've been comfortable on. Goldie's character was untouchable if you ask me.
I watched this again and just socked it to myself!

Judy was the best female star on Laugh In, but Goldie was awful, and Ruth was fine.
