Sometimes the Pythons do ruin their best ideas with having too much nonsense in them! Had they just made a fancy tale about a bishop being involved in priesthood affairs, while behaving like a detective or police inspector this could have been legend; almost like the Spanish Inquisition or Hitler in London jest but so they ruined it, because the bishop is coming always to late and don’t solve rather mysterious quests in a comical way.

It's from the sketch immidiatly beforehand- a vicar is crying for help because he is being scammed by an insurance salseman. He calls for help right before this video begins too, and the bishop slamming his crook sets off the title sequence, just like it does later in the video.

I do agree with the Dead Parrot sketch being an absolute classic, but I think I've seen it so many times that it's lost something for me. Besides, I hated it when they changed it up for the Hollywood Bowl, the remake on SNL, etc. I think the Bishop is so funny to me because it has so many elements of comedy: slapstick, homages to the mob, sly political/religious satire (see the credits), and an absurd premise. With so much, it's easily one of the most wide-ranging sketches and IMHO the funniest.
