  • 29 yr old, Juan Alverez sentenced 11 life sentences for this, right? by Judge William Pounder. Thats of waste of tax payer dollars! I'd be willing to bet you that the local government isn't taxin' one year at a time, either... U can bet they hittin' yall up for the whole 11 years all in one waap! Rest in peace to the victims!

  • the engineer on this passenger train was texting seconds before impact of the freight train. He ran thru a red signal on the rail and then had the head on with the UP train.

  • Where's the audio, Einsteins?

  • Comment removed

  • Everybody,

    LRonHubbardFuckFace is a retard

  • This is just nonsence! How can a professional employee of Metrolink be so irresponsible with the lives of his passengers? Take lessons from the great Southern Pacific commuter operation between San Jose and San Francisco back in the 1960's!

  • lol ya be like the sp back in the day they were all drunk instead

  • @deepscan101 how do we know that the light wasnt green? those lights are mechanical they have failed b4. i have it all on tape from as soon as they went live. 10 after that there was a signal guy on the mast with the lights open. i heard he was fired for tampering with it b4 he got permission. the conductor still swears it was green.

  • i kno everyone must liek hate the driver but think about how his family must feel i mean seriously...his sons/daughters had to lose their dad with also the guilt of everyone hating him and him basically being responsible for this i mean the whole thing is tragic the lapd officer was pretty much my aunt so i feel for everyone....its just horrifying and terribe.....

  • my mom was on that train she didn't make it

  • If your mom was on that I doubt you'd be on youtube posting about it lol.

  • And yet im sure all of you text message while drving...

  • One thing is for sure. Robert Sanchez is text messaging while operating locomotive in HELL!

I don't think about him at all. It is the 24 other people who I think about.

Robert Sanchez got exactly what he bargained for. He just did not realize the stakes of the game he was playing! Even after they were clearly explained to him!

How dense can one person be??

  • you'd be surprised

  • teen boys in the loco with him, maybe it was a text and a hand job while sanchez blew the red light

  • not only Mr. Sanchez lost his life over being immensly careless but he took lives of 25 people as well, sad, very sad, my sympathy to all those who lost a loved one on this terrible tragedy a week ago

  • I can guess what his text message was. "I am going to wreck this train and kill somebody!" Or was it the guys who were text messaging the engineer, who said, "Let's see a train wreck, Robert!"

What ever the message, Robert Sanchez got what he bargained for.

  • I truly believe, agfter listening to today's news, I believe the train conductor was trying to commit suicide. How sad!!!

  • conductors=attend to train/passengers

    engineers=drive the train

common mistake just have to clarify

  • @freightgh0st conductiors also manage frieght/signal/stops on frieght trains, anouther thing commenly mistaken.

  • at least 4? it was 25 ppl who got killed

  • I would first like us all to pray for those who were killed or hurt and their families and friends , I grew up in this area and loved the trains , but this is just unreal , and I would like to know how the metro link people got the phone records so quick from the phone company of the engineer text messaging teens , isn't this confidential , doesn't there need to be a subpoena or warrant to get this kind of private protected information , and why fire the spokesperson for doing her job !

  • You haven't lived in Los Angeles have you? If anything we need more trains/subway systems. I live very close to where this happened and it's quite unfortunate. I also read from a recent article that said the Metro engineer was text messaging right before this happened.

  • Everything is prone to human error you idiot. Trains are obsolete? Do you realize how much cargo is carried by them everyday for a fraction of the cost it costs semis? This is unfortunate but these things happen and will continue to happen.

  • yup, exactly jj...imagine if there were no freight railroads or commuter railroads, price for diesel/gas would be outrageous and our highways would be clogged with trucks. 1 hopper car=4 semi's...obsolete? nah

  • That's just like in "Hancock!"

  • It is very awful ,but some of your comments are horrible. This was not a deliberate act. These people try to provide a helpful service that just happen to go wrong on this day. Freight trains if they were to stop running for one day the whole country would be shut down.If they posted every death that happens everyday in a car there would not be enough time in the day to cover it. God Bless

  • i just heard from local news that the freight liner didn't stop at a stop light.

i hope to finish my fire academy within the next year so i can with LA city or county fire!

  • You heard wrong ! The commuter train failed to stop for red and hit freight train head on at 40 mph!

  • Seems so bizarre there was another wreck 50 minutes later. Probably just coincidence, but makes you think Homeland Security should look at it anyway??? Very, very sad.

  • That's why you never sit in the front of the train...

  • um depends if its a push or a pull train :P

  • I was actually in the first car when the Metro engine came crashing in. I was thrown to the floor across the car. Just a few bumbs and bruises. I guess Jesus did not want me yet.

  • The railroads have very comprehensive safety systems, but you'll never eliminate human error. That's why cars, buses, trains and planes sometimes crash. Statisticly you are still in greater danger by driving a car, but that's not going to be any comfort to anyone here.

  • do people seriously not check to see what train will be going on what route and at what time? my heart goes out to all the familys. this was truly a tragedy that could have been avoided.

  • That's it, we need to get the freight railroads back into the business of running passenger trains. Then maybe the freighters won't be crashing into them so much.

  • I couldn't imagine being a first responder for this. It takes a special person to be strong in these situations. Horay for Firefighters!

  • I am only 2 miles from this ... It's awful.

  • I don't understand how the train system is so stupid that trains collide.

  • seriously - This mistake cost people their lives.

  • um its not the train system...IT WAS THE ENGINEER!!!!

HE ran the light, the signal, which the train system put there for a reason...

critisize the employees not the system

  • The engineer represents the system, duh. And this is just one train collision of many.

  • the system of train is not the problem because the system told the engineer not to go but he did that is the engineers fault. He isnt part of the system he is supposed to follow it. Your terminology is incorrect. Thats all im saying. Trains are one of the safest forms of travel.

  • (sigh) I didn't say that trains are dangerous. I'm just saying that it's weird how often trains collide. It seems like such a simple process of when a train is supposed to use a certain track and when it's not, yet they still have accidents. And when an engineer strays from his orders, yes, he fucks up the system.

  • well i can understand why u wonder, i just have the knowledge of it jsut cuz of what im into and the people that i know. Its first ahnd knowledge to me that it is really not that simple. But yeh he fucked up, and i agree when u say HE fucked up the system, but that jsut tells me that he did and the system itself isnt the problem. U just said so. But yeh for info on the tracks and things send me a message. This accident scares me. Could be my dad or ppl close to me. Dont like to think about it :/

  • How the hell do you know!!!

  • @TheAmtrakPunk

you are right.. it was the metro engineers fault. but not all employees need to be blamed for this.. some employees do their job really well.. some dont.

  • @PANZERFAUST90

the train wrecks are generally human factored wrecks. Derailments are generally track conditions or human related (employees on train). Its a stressful job at times with a lot of responsibility.... some people can do it.. some others cant.

  • just heard on the local news here in LA, about 15 people are dead....hundreds are injured. the metro engine in the front was pushed almost halfway into the passenger car behind it. all the dead came from that car. awful.

  • just heard on the local news here in LA, about 15 people are dead....hundreds are injured. the metro engine in the front was pushed almost halfway into the passenger car behind it. all the dead came from that car. awful.

  • damn metro trains...my heart goes out to the lost and living

  • What the fuck? how does a commuter train collide with a freight train?

  • someone neglected to switch the trains.....

  • @Luv4quest

it was the engineers fault for the wreck.. he ran a red signal for him to stop and instead hit an oncoming train.

  • freights r on the same track and the metrolink engineer ran the red signal for whatever reason. He did not have the authority to go and he did.

  • Commuter trains often share the same tracks with freights. Do a search here for videos uploaded by trainutjob. Freights and commuter trains often pass within minutes of each other in his videos. It's a fact of life. I am a regular rider on the very line he usually films. And one day this past week, after finding a seat with a good view where I could stretch out and relax, I almost bypassed it because it was at the very front of the train - the worst place to be in a head-on.

  • @ogjimkenobi

they all run on the same tracks.. its easier than you think. Human factor is what cause these wrecks... in this case the metro engineer was texting seconds before impact of freight train.. he had just ran a red signal instructing him to stop, but instead he made a head on collision with the freight train.

  • Crazy stuff. My sister would have been on that train, but she started driving over the summer.

  • what the hell man? i guess thats why everyone drives

  • Yup because NO one gets into car accidents on the highway.

  • Holy shit!

  • Holy shit!
