I don't know about you, but if i purchased a MacBook Pro that came with Mac OS X, I wouldn't use those fake programs that make my xp look like a mac. he's running Parallels with XP, as you can see (unclearly) in the dock, and smacking it simply puts the XP in full screen mode
nope it's not, I just downloaded it and it works great! You have to install virtual desktops and a motion sensor programme to activate something in the terminal. only then can you start smacking away :)
Sorry I can't answer that question MalefixOmo, Still using a Tiger. But I think I read somewhere that it's not possible. Though I have to say that it's worth the try! :)
How is this achieved? I've bought a Macbook and am totally new to Macs - is this Parallels? Bootcamp? Something else?
(I realise the "Smackbook" part of it is something else related to the motion sensor - I'm specifically wondering how you switch from OSX to Windows without rebooting)
installed parallels desktop with XP (you see the icon in the dock) running parallels in 1 desktop and the rest of his apps in the other. smackbook uses your motionsensor to switch between desktops
You mean... you buy a mac, so you can run Windows, OS X and have Darwin, the UNIX shell that does just about anything I wanted my linux setup to do already?
dude.. i like it but the karma smackbook seems better.. search under karma smackbook and you'll see what im talking about... i just ordered my macbook two days ago and im ready to install some cool stuff that PC's can't do! Apple thinks of everything.
Marty, comment if you've tried a Mac, if not don't bother....
I've got parallels for my iMac, and even though i can't punch it in the side to switch - everything is the same except i press 'Alt' + 'Shift' to spin.
I'm waiting on Leopard and Vista now, spin between them. Although i'm sure Vista will have some issues with the whole thing - after all that's what they made windows error boxes for right?
Nope. You can't virtualize OS X on a Windows machine, even if there are hacks to run it natively.
There are also no scripts to take advantage of the sudden motion sensors found in laptops like Thinkpads. You're wrong about 'most newer Intel laptops' featuring sudden motion sensors too. Very few do.
In fact, IBM make it a major selling point of the Thinkpad line.
because most newer intel laptops have sensors like this, and it's easy to get a bootable os x image for both amd and intel, anyone should be able to load something similar to this, right?

The Only Slogan That Apple, Windows and Linux could Agree On:
u need a classic computer that everyone knows how to use???
you got a windows.
u get bored on your work computer.
u got a mac
u wanted to be rare and daring.
u got a linux.
u want to be able to do all these things?

after installing all the stuff, can you just turn on the mac and smack away, or do you have to launch a program first before you can smack?
jigggaa 5 years ago
It has to be launched. If you use a script, you can set it to run at startup in Sys Prefs though.
WakkaHD 5 years ago
Is that through Parallels or what? It's really cool.
theguy2687 5 years ago
Yeah, it is. Check out my site for an easy tutorial on how to do this with your Mac:
