  • Kate Bush is Obviously psychic- and super smart in the ARTS of Magick :) Lilly? Come one! Wish someone would admit Kate is Ethereal, spiritual and intense. Thanks for posting!!

  • fantastic and also the truth! Cuts deep- I am going to get off the internet and go watch clouds

  • After hearing the Director's Cut version first, this one sounds very bizzare!

  • @sipodge Yeah, well this is the better version. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. :-)

  • I love this version. The new one is just a step too far I think. I love Kate's originality, but the new version is....well, unnecessary.....

  • I think it's ok to do a bad version of your own song. If someone else did it we would be cursing them even more. This is one of her best.

  • Prefer this original version much more.

  • lol this song reminds me of my mum :/

  • I really like the new version it was about time the auto tune effect was used properly and made exceptable

  • @sallyfieldrequired

Completely agree, Kate Bush and Imogen Heap are the only people who have used the autotune/vocoder effect and make it sound stunning!

Can't wait for the new album. Kate never fails to surprise and astound :D

  • @evanescent95 Um, Hello: Laurie Anderson.

  • @madsketcher Kate's stuff is nothing like Laurie Anderson. Both are very very very different styles. Listen to more Kate and you will find out.

  • @Iceblooo You misunderstood my post. I was simply saying that Kate Bush and Imogen Heap were not the only people who have made interesting use of the vocoder.

  • Had to listen to this after hearing the new version - it's so much better. There's tears in my eyes it's so beautiful.

  • The song indeed is excellent the way it was. I just can't understand she had to change it. Someone as talented as her doesn't need that. is she finally falling for commercy?

  • @HanEpskampMusic I agree. I am DISGUSTED with her for ruining this incredible classic. I think she needed to make some quick money without wanting to make a new album. I always heard she was a perfectionist who wouldn't let any song out of her studio until it was up to scratch but the new album is DIRE.

  • bloody 'ell Kate ,what a great song!!

  • I have to say that I much prefer this version to the new one. Love that beat in the background and the "electronic" voice is not as heavy as in the new version. then again I've always been an 80's music fan so it's probably a matter of personal preference.

She really showed great foresight when she wrote this.

  • Prefer this version . . . I like the new one, and enjoy the extended version. But this is just so lovely and timeless . . .

  • OMG! this woman is a genius. She was already speaking back in 1989 what we would be doing in the future, what we all do, spending hours and hours in front a new friend - the computer. I turn to my computer as a friend. I LOVE YOU KATE!

  • I feel that this could relate to Sheldon in Big Bang Theory now - just before Amy Farrah Fowler came into his life.

He was unable to relate to real life at that point and was always on his laptop.

  • The new version of Deeper Understang will be released on April 5th. You can hear a sample on amazon.co.uk. It's...different!

  • Yes, she could see into the future the lyrics are that prophetic and more relevant today than 22 years ago. The new edition of this song will no doubt be brilliant as Kate Bush doesn't do anything less than brilliant and will deliver a great great song to a whole new generation.

  • One of her top 10 tracks!

So happy about it being released as a single! =)

Kate Bush.... We've missed you!!! :)

  • @Vindrag Too bad the single version turned out to be a version she put through the shredder.

  • In the Sensual World Book, Kate referred to Prof Stephen Hawkings when she wrote this song.

  • OMFG Kate Bush is comming back again :D

  • I can't believe it will be the NEW single ! The song is so sad :<

But still can't wait for it and for the video??

  • i can't wait to hear the new reworked version of this, one of my favorites from TSW. i'm in love with it all over again after hearing the news!

  • How prophetic is this? She's a clever woman is Kate.

  • I'm so happy to hear this will be the first single from the new album!. It's been 22 years since I bought 'The Sensual World' from my local HMV. I remember rushing back home as fast as I could to listen to it, I was so excited!. I didn't even have a PC back then so this song seems more relevant than ever. Kate was alway's ahead of her time.

  • Sorry, I do not like this song, and now I hear that it features on the upcoming 'director's cut' releases.

    I am lonely and lost.

  • forreal our we behind

  • Wow, this song was so prophetic!

  • My scottish man... this album is yours ...

  • another kate bush song that takes u on a journey, only pure geniuses of music can do that

  • Sod that. Must get back to pussy online ....see yah!

  • Hauting.

  • So so before its time.

  • One of my favourite choruses ever.

  • MY ABSOLUT FAVORIT !!!!!! I LOVE KATE !!!

  • just... excellent... ;-j

  • eerie in its prescience, yeah. but i think the vocal arrangements on this track are at LEAST as devastating as the actual lyrics... this collabo with the trio bulgarka is like nothing i've ever heard in my life

  • @somnambulance

    I agree.

Listen to Jennifer Warnes studiointerpretation of Cohens A Singer Must Die. Totally different but also a devastating vocal arrangement .

  • @somnambulance

A great track and prescient indeed. Hope keeps the trio on the remix as her use of them gave Sensual World such a unique feel. Slightly nervous about the video (if there is one) though. Thought King of the Mountain vid a bit pants - and say that as a MASSIVE Kate fan (right from hearing Wuthering Heights first played on breakfast radio). Recommend to all You Tube vidmix of Mary Poppins with Aerial - bloody genius!

  • @bobbiemars i imagine it as like Kate in an appartment just on a computer as life goes on around her.

  • "I turn to my computer like a friend".

Absolutely right; we're all being taken away from each other.

Computers replacing simple, human contact. More and more images of people displaying CGI inspired imagery and less humanity.

And all of this backed up by Trio Bulgarka.

  • is this just the creepiest thing ever or what?

  • she sings about internet addiction...

  • @chocolateizzy

The internet as we know it today, started in -89. This song was released in -89.

So I believe, in this song, she was just looking at how the world of computers might evolve. Not knowing it would turn out exactly like this, but close.

  • @chocolateizzy

This is NOT abt net addiction-

..its about denying the world & finding G-d who always offers the same peace. Kate is a Gnosis priestess; her, Peter G, Prince- ..ALL of them have ALWAYS been singing abt G-d (Purple Rain, Man w/ the Child in His Eyes, Sledgehammer, Lily [Jesus is the 'Lily of the Valley], Let's Go Crazy, etc.).

Those who don't LOOK for Him, can never even SEE Him, but there are celebs that KNOW G-d & have been teaching through their music this WHOLE TIME.

  • a sci fi song. she's so ahead of the times. always has been, always will be. so grateful to be amongst Kate fans!!1

  • One of my favourite Kate Bush songs. What a great inspirational artist.

  • She is a prophet,I suppose

  • Or just wise enough to ignore fads and stick to what matters.

  • the 2nd life anthem!!

    ha ha ha....

  • she is so creative-and her music is the most moving out there my opinion :)

  • Twenty years gone by and still stuck in the same trap. Thank you, Kate. I can't believe she's 51 this year.

  • what is she trying to say in the song?

  • Beautiful Kate with visions of the future for man kind.

  • The lyrics and the melody in this song is simply heavenly!

  • Kate Bush can write about anything, can sing about anything, but she always means it. She understands people in a way that is almost inhuman.

  • I think she understands people in a very human way, and thats what makes her uniqe.

  • @judybernlypleasehold

    More like Superhuman.

  • @MarcusDarling4026 Hilarious! Sledgehammer is about sex, and as for the Man with the Child in His Eyes....

  • Kate, sempre kate

  • Love this! I've also done a few Kate Bush homage videos with a friend. Take a look at my area! Did a pretty cool 'Morning Fog!'

  • I remember hearing this song in 89' and thinking "She's talking about the past computer craze thing." And back in the 80's there was a personal computer addition . . . but back in 1989 there wasn't the internet that we know of now. Weird . . . did she even know what she was referring to? Don't most of us feel we relate better to strangers on the net than to people we see face to face?

  • She knew what she referring to. In 1989 Floppy disks did come in magazines and contained programs that connected to an electronic bulletin board or a commercial online service (it was not the public internet, they owned the online space). You went online as she talked about by going to a phone hooked up to a modem that made horrible sound heard in the song as it dialled out.

  • i love this anglo-bulgarian song since 1989

  • Comment removed

  • This song sticks two fingers up at geeks who just sit at computers all the time.

  • Not sure she meant it like that... Think she wanted to say something about loneliness today. But hey, whatever works for you.

  • I actually think the reverse, it's understanding it, not condemning it.

  • I would never have known this song, or who kate bush even was if it wasnt for maxwell's shout out to her on his mtv unplugged album

  • wat a lovelly song :)

  • This is a beautiful song! Does anyone know what the chant is? It begins at the 4.00 mark.

  • All I know is that its a trio of singers that works with Kate on a couple of song. If you listen to the song Rocket's Tail which is on the same album as this you will get an absolute treat of a chant. I think they're from Bulgaria, but im not sure.

  • I don't know what the chant is called but the group (a trio) is called trio Bulgarka: beautiful voices and harmonies.

  • This is a brilliant commentary to a brilliant song - loved it!

  • This song represent pretty much everyone !!!

Ah Kate Bush soundtrack to my life
