Kate Bush is Obviously psychic- and super smart in the ARTS of Magick :) Lilly? Come one! Wish someone would admit Kate is Ethereal, spiritual and intense. Thanks for posting!!
@Iceblooo You misunderstood my post. I was simply saying that Kate Bush and Imogen Heap were not the only people who have made interesting use of the vocoder.
The song indeed is excellent the way it was. I just can't understand she had to change it. Someone as talented as her doesn't need that. is she finally falling for commercy?
@HanEpskampMusic I agree. I am DISGUSTED with her for ruining this incredible classic. I think she needed to make some quick money without wanting to make a new album. I always heard she was a perfectionist who wouldn't let any song out of her studio until it was up to scratch but the new album is DIRE.
I have to say that I much prefer this version to the new one. Love that beat in the background and the "electronic" voice is not as heavy as in the new version. then again I've always been an 80's music fan so it's probably a matter of personal preference.
She really showed great foresight when she wrote this.
OMG! this woman is a genius. She was already speaking back in 1989 what we would be doing in the future, what we all do, spending hours and hours in front a new friend - the computer. I turn to my computer as a friend. I LOVE YOU KATE!
Yes, she could see into the future the lyrics are that prophetic and more relevant today than 22 years ago. The new edition of this song will no doubt be brilliant as Kate Bush doesn't do anything less than brilliant and will deliver a great great song to a whole new generation.
A great track and prescient indeed. Hope keeps the trio on the remix as her use of them gave Sensual World such a unique feel. Slightly nervous about the video (if there is one) though. Thought King of the Mountain vid a bit pants - and say that as a MASSIVE Kate fan (right from hearing Wuthering Heights first played on breakfast radio). Recommend to all You Tube vidmix of Mary Poppins with Aerial - bloody genius!

I'm so happy to hear this will be the first single from the new album!. It's been 22 years since I bought 'The Sensual World' from my local HMV. I remember rushing back home as fast as I could to listen to it, I was so excited!. I didn't even have a PC back then so this song seems more relevant than ever. Kate was alway's ahead of her time.
eerie in its prescience, yeah. but i think the vocal arrangements on this track are at LEAST as devastating as the actual lyrics... this collabo with the trio bulgarka is like nothing i've ever heard in my life

The internet as we know it today, started in -89. This song was released in -89.
So I believe, in this song, she was just looking at how the world of computers might evolve. Not knowing it would turn out exactly like this, but close.
..its about denying the world & finding G-d who always offers the same peace. Kate is a Gnosis priestess; her, Peter G, Prince- ..ALL of them have ALWAYS been singing abt G-d (Purple Rain, Man w/ the Child in His Eyes, Sledgehammer, Lily [Jesus is the 'Lily of the Valley], Let's Go Crazy, etc.).
Those who don't LOOK for Him, can never even SEE Him, but there are celebs that KNOW G-d & have been teaching through their music this WHOLE TIME.

I remember hearing this song in 89' and thinking "She's talking about the past computer craze thing." And back in the 80's there was a personal computer addition . . . but back in 1989 there wasn't the internet that we know of now. Weird . . . did she even know what she was referring to? Don't most of us feel we relate better to strangers on the net than to people we see face to face?
She knew what she referring to. In 1989 Floppy disks did come in magazines and contained programs that connected to an electronic bulletin board or a commercial online service (it was not the public internet, they owned the online space). You went online as she talked about by going to a phone hooked up to a modem that made horrible sound heard in the song as it dialled out.

I think it's ok to do a bad version of your own song. If someone else did it we would be cursing them even more. This is one of her best.

Completely agree, Kate Bush and Imogen Heap are the only people who have used the autotune/vocoder effect and make it sound stunning!
Can't wait for the new album. Kate never fails to surprise and astound :D

I feel that this could relate to Sheldon in Big Bang Theory now - just before Amy Farrah Fowler came into his life.
He was unable to relate to real life at that point and was always on his laptop.

"I turn to my computer like a friend".
Absolutely right; we're all being taken away from each other.
Computers replacing simple, human contact. More and more images of people displaying CGI inspired imagery and less humanity.
And all of this backed up by Trio Bulgarka.

Kate Bush can write about anything, can sing about anything, but she always means it. She understands people in a way that is almost inhuman.
