He shot a bow and arrow across the Twin Towers and had a friend pull the cable on the other end to secure the wire, and the reason why he was arrested was he did this illegally. He broke the law, but it was a beautiful crime, and it didn't hurt anyone unlike Al Qaeda on 9/11.
damn ive been up there a long tiem ago and saw a picture of that guy who walked across the towers.. they also had pictures of construction workers having lunch on a steel beam with their feet dangling in mid air..
One of the bravest/daredevil of all time, too bad the cops didn't realize how extra-ordinary his was...but his friends told him that he spent 45 good mins on the wire.
"Yes, I might die. But dying during the exercise of your passion, what a wonderful death." Philippe Petit!
the fact that you think he's cheating for using a pole shows you know nothing, absolutely nothing, about tight rope walking. When you accomplish a tight rope feat even half as amazing as this, then MAYBE you can talk.
No, he is still alive, thank for him ^^ And I don't find it silly because I watched the move-documentary "Man on Wire" (which is about this event, really good, a must see) there's a moment where he says something that I find very true. He says: "Yes, I might die. But dying during the exercise of your passion, what a wonderful death."

A wonderfull memory of the Word Trade Center...Philippe Petit's bravo and daring in achieving his triumph on top of WTC 1 and 2 is inspiring to witness..We will never forget 911
@TheFilipinoBoxer ~ Philippe was prepared for this. He practiced for months for this stunt in a field in France, and had his crew members shake the rope to simulate wind. I believe they also called it off on one occasion due to high winds. He also walked a wire strung between the two spires of Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, so this wasn't his first time out!
this movie is a scam, 1 hour of drama and footage of everything, the guy eating, fighting, travelling, but there is no damn footage of the guy walking between the fucking towers. WTF.
all America has is Evil Knievel, this guy has real balls and hes from France, oh also the man they call the human fly is also from France, oh the French Foreign legion is also French, one of the toughest and noble fighting forces ever, even tougher than the seals
It was in 1974... No digital camera! But there's a testimony of one the policeman who arrested him made on the day he did that, and there's the testimonies of people who saw him.
@TheMilune ~ But certainly easier than lugging all this equipment to the top of the World Trade Towers! Philippe's crew was aware that he was doing this; they were there with him and were the ones taking these pictures. So I wonder why they didn't bring along a movie camera?

Am i the only one who thinks that this movie had a kinda sad ending? He never saw his GF again and also his friends... he got his 15min of fame but thats it... makes u kinda think if its worth it...
@JordanSanders1991 now how in the fuck does that make U S Marines look like pansy's you ass? what the fuck does this have to do with U S Marines ??? then you might as well say he makes every swinging dick in the world look like a pansy. What the fuck does walking a high wire have to do with Marines ? i mean really? let me ask you this , has mr tippy toe wire walker ever entered a dark building at 2 am looking for insurgents? shove his buddies guts back inside them waiting for a medivac?
@JordanSanders1991 lets see mr ballerina costume wearer walk a 6 inch beam with a 50 lbs work belt of Spud wrenchs , drift pins a connecting bar and a bolt bag wearing friggin levi's and workboots that feel like lead or a 40 lb bolting up gun in one hand and no counter balance in the other and do 8 to 10 hours a day. oh and btw i guess then Rangers and Soldiers are pansys and Submariners and Seals and Pararescue cuz they dont walk on wires
and Ill tell you what you shit stain if a Marine had to get across that wire from one tower to another he would maybe he wouldnt walk the fucking thing like this guy did in a tutu with a balance pole but he sure as hell would monky fuck that thind and shimmy his ass across if he was told to. FUCKIN BET ON IT.
I'm so glad this happened. Some people chose to use these buildings for fear and destruction (not just physical destruction), where as Philippe used it for pure art and beauty, for no personal gain. Every time I think about how horrific 9 11 was, its strange that the same two buildings can restore my faith in humanity.
@austere125rivers There's nothing brave about killing innocent people out of greed. It's not the pilots I hate, its the pricks that tell these misguided people that they get a fast track to the afterlife as VIPs, and use them as pawns in their game while they are too cowardly to do it themselves.
@austere125rivers Yeah it takes real bravery to fly a plane into a building. They did it as a means of mass murder and suicide, whereas Petit did what he did as a stunt- entertainment. Think before you say something, 'moron.'
@NESHero Because he risked his life, and spent all his life working towards something which had no other purpose apart from beauty. Even if he died, like Philippe himself said, what a beautiful death.
if i cant even look at it how would i walk across that freakin thing!!!!! i would die! i give it to him... wow thank you for showing me anything is possible
