the book and the movie are the most influential things that i came across through my whole life.it's like i have them deep inside me since the day i was born.i was just 12 when i read the book but i was so much fascinated by it that it has influenced me so much through music, arts and much more.
I loved this movie but I thought the ending in the book was much better. Half of the Heathcliff-Catherine romance was loving and the other half was spiteful/vengeful---all of it was passionate. When Heathcliff dies at the end of the book, it's left ambiguous as to whether they were happily reunited or the ghost Catherine dragged Heatchliff to hell with her.
It's a good adaption, but who ever thought it was a good idea to cast a French woman with most of her career in French, sophisticated films as a Yorkshire country girl? It's so wrong!
I've never seen any of the film adaptations of Wuthering Heights and I've been interested in several, but this is the one I hear about most often. But I'm not sure that I like this scene; quite frankly, I don't know that Catherine and Heathcliff deserve such a sweetly romantic happy ending. I like Ralph Fiennes, but...to the fans, would you recommend it?
The most painful but beautiful story of all times... Me myself I've been living the same story... Well, kind of... But I can say I understand the feelings of Catherine and Heathcliff and all the pain they go through.
I grew up on this movie because my mother loved it so much. I know it forwards and backwards, and personally I think it's the most complete movie adaptation of the novel. PLUS, I love this scene where the lovers are reunited. The flute as they kiss is absolutely incredible. It's like the fanfare for the fact that they have finally found each other again.
If you have read the book, you will find that some characters are diluted in order to embelish Heathcliff's. However Ralph Fiennes is so good in the part the movie manages to get away with it.

Heathcliff is one of my all-time favorite literary characters and Ralph Fiennes certainly did him justice. Beautiful film.
