@Imlegend47 At no point throughout the entire time the PlayStation Network has been down has Sony ever said they lost data from the PlayStation Network. In other words, when the Network ever does come back online, all your friends, trophies, purchases, wallet balance, etc will still be there.
Oh and anyone wondering as to when the PlayStation Network might be headed back online, the latest from Sony is as of the 26th of April, 2011, it should be within a week from this date that some PSN services are restored.
As a heads up to anyone who might reach this video and are experiencing error code 80710A06. NOTHING is wrong with your console, the problem is the PlayStation Network itself is offline and possibly will remain so for a few days.
As it's a problem with the PlayStation Network there is nothing you can do about it either except play single player games in the mean time.
@Impex13VI Best case scenario will be the Network is fixed today (April 22nd) and you'll be able to sign in today but yes basically within a few days you'll be able to sign in again.

@OwnagePlox1 Unfortunately the PlayStation Network is currently down, hence why this error is generated. As this is a problem with the PlayStation Network itself, there is nothing you can do to fix the problem, you'll simply have to wait till Sony can resolve this issue.

@dirtysouth901 I seriously doubt that 8001050F is the error code you actually got as it to my knowledge is only associated with the time clock problem and that problem passed almost a year ago. I also doubt Black Ops is responsible for any issues, it may be a buggy game, but it doesn't destroy hardware. That being said, if you've owned it a month, it's still under warranty, so why are you complaining here, contact Sony for a repair/replacement, it's not like anyone here can magically fix it.
That being said, I am going to give everyone who reaches this video for whatever reason a valuable tool. Sony's PlayStation Knowledge Center has a tool to look up PS3 error codes and get details/fix details on them. The link to the tool will be posted in the video description. This should help at least some viewers find answers to their problems for when I'm not available to answer them.
@Proken123 Well the best I can turn up so far is the error seems to be thrown when there are issues with the PlayStation Network. Now I know the North American PSN is working because I'm signed on to it at this moment but if you live outside North America it could be the Network is down in your local area, in which case they will resolve the issue soon enough. If you live in North America, then I'll have to keep looking into it.
@mrjustepic Well which code are you consistently experiencing, since you claim to have got 8002A220 and 80710092 in two separate comments. I don't have unlimited time to run around looking up codes when you can't even tell me which is the one that is actually happening. Once you sort that out, leave another comment and I'll see what I can find, but my resources consist of Google searching right now, so I might suggest you do that yourself too.

As for 8002A220, from my Google search (as my PS3 isn't working for me to find out) it appears the PlayStation Network is down for maintenance, possibly patching to lock out a certain device recently released by some slimeballs. It affects everyone and should clear soon enough.
I get that error code when i'm playing offline! I bought ufc undisputed 2010 t'other day, it said i had to upgrade or download something to play the game so i did, the game worked fine all day then it crashed, my ps3 was unresponsive so i had to turn it off at the mains, when i tried to reload it there was a message saying the ps3 was not properly switched off previously, then i get another message saying error occured 8001050F. Now everytime i try to load the game i get that error code!
i was playing mw2 on the ps3 fat model 40gb and it suddenly signs me out of psn and kicks me out sometimes, it says you have been signed out of psn error or something like that and i resetted the modem and it still happens, im using wired connection with ethernet, is my ps3 broken?
@michael79331 80023017 is simply the code that is thrown when there's a problem with the PlayStation Network, such as Sony is performing maintenance or the servers become overloaded. Just give it some time and such a problem should pass.
There is no update to download, the problem fixed itself after the internal clock rolled over, at a later date I imagine Sony will release new firmware to prevent this from happening again but there is absolutely NO update to download currently.
Before you say you have lost your trophies double-check using the link I posted in the video description right below the section: Verify if your trophies are safe
Basically after your copy the URL and replace the part of the URL that says "yourPSNID" with your current PSN ID and proceed there it will show you your current trophy status and the games you have earned trophies in. If all of your trophies are there, they are safe otherwise yes then you really did lose them.

The PSN/ or more specifically Sony had nothing to do with the fix, all that's happened is the internal clocks have rolled over and now are on a day that exists which is stopping the console from freaking out. The problem was never related to the PlayStation Network itself and throughout the time where consoles weren't working the PlayStation Network was on and functioning for those with newer consoles.
As a few people have noticed after their clocks flipped back over their consoles have begun working normally. My suggestion is to wait a little longer to ensure your console flips over, then try syncing the clock to the Internet, if it's successful then try connecting to the PSN Network. If it works your console should be perfect., otherwise you might want to get in contact with Sony or post it here.

The two possibilities for a solution are wait till tomorrow for the clock to roll over and the problem will fix itself similar to the Zune 30GB leap year bug last year or Sony publishes a firmware update to correct the problem. Till either one happens, you will just have to be patient.

Sony has always given the option to update your console via a USB drive with the latest firmware update downloaded from their website onto a PC. If consoles can't connect to the PlayStation Network to receive a firmware update, Sony will use this procedure and most likely accept consoles for repairs if people are unable to do so.

Because of the issue at hand there is no fix available that you can perform yourself, the only two possibilities are the clock rolls over and the problem fixes itself or Sony has to create a fix, whether a recall or firmware update.

This is all part of the problem right now, similar to yourself I did the network test yesterday and got the exact same results. All of the problems you are currently experiencing are part of error 8001050F and until Sony releases a firmware update or possibly when the clock rolls over tomorrow there is nothing you can do to fix the problem.
Again this was answered in my annotation but to reiterate the following point, your trophies are safe as long as you have done a trophy sync to the PlayStation Network. In doing so your trophies are tied to your PSN account and you will always have those trophies tied to it.
For the time being though, do NOT play any game supporting trophies as this can result in your trophy progress being lost and as a result have to start a game over in order to continue earning trophies once the fix comes.
Preferably though, do NOT turn on your console at all as this is the Sony recommendation to ensure all data remains safe, but if you're too impatient, then don't play trophy enabled games although I take no responsibility for any loss of data/trophies that may result from going against Sony's advice.
yeah this error has me too it's fucking bullshit haven't been online in nearly two days and getting really pissed off now, i can't even speak to anyone from playstation every time i phones it says the whole system is down.
Gee I wonder why, maybe because everyone else that is experiencing problems is calling too and they simply can't keep up with the amount of calls, no company can be prepared for massive traffic like this immediately because the amount of staff required to handle the call volume they are currently experiencing is unnecessary 99% of the time and would be an unnecessary expense so when something unexpected does happen they can't provide staff instantly to cover a huge increase in call volume.
It might be a long shot but this problem may actually fix itself....I am actually waiting to see if it works....b/c of everyones date and time bug of 12/31 between 6 and 7pm....try this...keep your PS3 on and let the clock run...dont do anything...just leave it on so that the clock will run...once 12:00am hits...your date and time may correct itself(just a thought..sounds logical but maybe a little far fetched)..the thing that I noticed is that everytime you turn it on and off the clock reverts

Similar to the Zune leap year bug it is impossible for a company to always verify every line of it's code and slip ups happen. There is no evidence to suggest that changing the date beforehand would have prevented the problem anyway.

And knee jerk reactions like this are a poor way to respond to anything. All companies have screw-ups, in Microsoft's case the XBOX 360 has been a failure magnet and to this day although they have made improvements it's still a possibility.
So you're telling me after Sony makes a screw-up which will be fixed soon and doesn't kill your console, just causes inconvenience that all of a sudden the XBOX is more reliable, your console choice should be based on the games, not a temporary problem.

Believe me if that was the case we wouldn't have Sony searching for a fix, thousands of people complaining about it online, etc. That was the first thing most people tried when the problem was first noticed.

It's a hardware related clock causing the problem, changing your clock settings should cause no harm to your console as that doesn't affect the clock in question.

From all indications currently it is NOT a problem with the PlayStation Network, any problems you might be experiencing with PlayStation websites come down to the volume of traffic right now, everyone is slamming the PlayStation website with page requests for news on the problem and as such their web servers can't keep up with the load.
Even a forum I frequent dedicated to PlayStation has been getting a ton more traffic then usual and we had several threads going about the problem.
The reason for the thought that the PlayStation Network is not to blame is because slim consoles (120GB and 250GB consoles) are NOT experiencing problems and are able to connect to the PlayStation Network just fine. If it really was a Network problem, all consoles would be affected.
I am having all of the same problems that everyone else is having and it's driving me insane.
HOWEVER, I just discovered that for some reason, the God of War collection works fine. If you have it, try it. Even though I'm still going nuts, at least I have SOMETHING I can play.
I can't play anything ONLINE OR OFFLINE, but this disc works for some reason.
If you are in dire need to play something, ANYTHING like I am...pop in that GoW collection disc and see if it works.
leap year bug? GMAB!!! Its sonys inability to create any good firmware that doesnt kill a system or is left wondering why it didnt recognize its a leap year or not.

Before you say you have lost your trophies double-check using the link I posted in the video description right below the section: Verify if your trophies are safe
Basically after your copy the URL and replace the part of the URL that says "yourPSNID" with your current PSN ID and proceed there it will show you your current trophy status and the games you have earned trophies in. If all of your trophies are there, they are safe otherwise yes then you really did lose them.

The PSN/ or more specifically Sony had nothing to do with the fix, all that's happened is the internal clocks have rolled over and now are on a day that exists which is stopping the console from freaking out. The problem was never related to the PlayStation Network itself and throughout the time where consoles weren't working the PlayStation Network was on and functioning for those with newer consoles.

As a few people have noticed after their clocks flipped back over their consoles have begun working normally. My suggestion is to wait a little longer to ensure your console flips over, then try syncing the clock to the Internet, if it's successful then try connecting to the PSN Network. If it works your console should be perfect., otherwise you might want to get in contact with Sony or post it here.

got a question, is restoring your PS3 going to fix it??? it is a pain in my ass because I have uploaded lots of things on my ps3... but if it wil fix it, then I will have to save lots of things on to my usb drive and put it on my desktop for however long it takes to restore. but does it work?

@timmyfung01 As I mentioned in my annotation and a previous comment resetting/recovering your system will do absolutely nothing to resolve the problem and has never been recommended by anyone as a solution. The two possibilities for a solution are wait till tomorrow for the clock to roll over and the problem will fix itself similar to the Zune 30GB leap year bug last year or Sony publishes a firmware update to correct the problem. Till either one happens, you will just have to be patient.

Sony has always given the option to update your console via a USB drive with the latest firmware update downloaded from their website onto a PC. If consoles can't connect to the PlayStation Network to receive a firmware update, Sony will use this procedure and most likely accept consoles for repairs if people are unable to do so.

Sony has officially posted via the PlayStation Blog and their Twitter that the most likely cause is a time/clock related issue and they hope to have it resolved within 24 hours
Because of the issue at hand there is no fix available that you can perform yourself, the only two possibilities are the clock rolls over and the problem fixes itself or Sony has to create a fix, whether a recall or firmware update.

hi mate i also have the same problem i went to play mw2 online and it came up with that error code.....i then went to internet connection test and the first 2 categories succeeded and the third category which is playstation network said 'failed' what information can you tell me on this and does this happen to you? please comment me back as soon as possible mate....thankyou

This is all part of the problem right now, similar to yourself I did the network test yesterday and got the exact same results. All of the problems you are currently experiencing are part of error 8001050F and until Sony releases a firmware update or possibly when the clock rolls over tomorrow there is nothing you can do to fix the problem.

Again this was answered in my annotation but to reiterate the following point, your trophies are safe as long as you have done a trophy sync to the PlayStation Network. In doing so your trophies are tied to your PSN account and you will always have those trophies tied to it.
For the time being though, do NOT play any game supporting trophies as this can result in your trophy progress being lost and as a result have to start a game over in order to continue earning trophies once the fix comes.

Preferably though, do NOT turn on your console at all as this is the Sony recommendation to ensure all data remains safe, but if you're too impatient, then don't play trophy enabled games although I take no responsibility for any loss of data/trophies that may result from going against Sony's advice.

Gee I wonder why, maybe because everyone else that is experiencing problems is calling too and they simply can't keep up with the amount of calls, no company can be prepared for massive traffic like this immediately because the amount of staff required to handle the call volume they are currently experiencing is unnecessary 99% of the time and would be an unnecessary expense so when something unexpected does happen they can't provide staff instantly to cover a huge increase in call volume.

It might be a long shot but this problem may actually fix itself....I am actually waiting to see if it works....b/c of everyones date and time bug of 12/31 between 6 and 7pm....try this...keep your PS3 on and let the clock run...dont do anything...just leave it on so that the clock will run...once 12:00am hits...your date and time may correct itself(just a thought..sounds logical but maybe a little far fetched)..the thing that I noticed is that everytime you turn it on and off the clock reverts

@55roberto55 If you're referring to the video being black, it's because there is no actual video content in this upload, all you're seeing is a repeated loop of a black image that I attached to the audio so I could upload it to YouTube. I figured no video was necessary as there is nothing to show that people didn't already know.

Similar to the Zune leap year bug it is impossible for a company to always verify every line of it's code and slip ups happen. There is no evidence to suggest that changing the date beforehand would have prevented the problem anyway.

And knee jerk reactions like this are a poor way to respond to anything. All companies have screw-ups, in Microsoft's case the XBOX 360 has been a failure magnet and to this day although they have made improvements it's still a possibility.
So you're telling me after Sony makes a screw-up which will be fixed soon and doesn't kill your console, just causes inconvenience that all of a sudden the XBOX is more reliable, your console choice should be based on the games, not a temporary problem.

Believe me if that was the case we wouldn't have Sony searching for a fix, thousands of people complaining about it online, etc. That was the first thing most people tried when the problem was first noticed.
Modifying the clock date/time will do absolutely nothing to resolve the problem.

It's a hardware related clock causing the problem, changing your clock settings should cause no harm to your console as that doesn't affect the clock in question.

From all indications currently it is NOT a problem with the PlayStation Network, any problems you might be experiencing with PlayStation websites come down to the volume of traffic right now, everyone is slamming the PlayStation website with page requests for news on the problem and as such their web servers can't keep up with the load.
Even a forum I frequent dedicated to PlayStation has been getting a ton more traffic then usual and we had several threads going about the problem.

The reason for the thought that the PlayStation Network is not to blame is because slim consoles (120GB and 250GB consoles) are NOT experiencing problems and are able to connect to the PlayStation Network just fine. If it really was a Network problem, all consoles would be affected.

I am having all of the same problems that everyone else is having and it's driving me insane.
HOWEVER, I just discovered that for some reason, the God of War collection works fine. If you have it, try it. Even though I'm still going nuts, at least I have SOMETHING I can play.
I can't play anything ONLINE OR OFFLINE, but this disc works for some reason.
If you are in dire need to play something, ANYTHING like I am...pop in that GoW collection disc and see if it works.

Just to re-iterate for those who might not have annotations turned on, there is no timeframe currently as to when the problem will be fixed. Sony is working on a fix as we speak and will release the information when it's available. If you really want to know ASAP, keep checking their Twitter feed, it's in the video description box and as soon as I know a timeframe as to when it will be fixed I'll post it here. Till then don't post comments asking when it will be ready, they aren't being approved

No, as I mentioned in the video, Sony is working on a fix for the older model PlayStation 3's and if the situation turns out like the Zune leap year bug no fix is necessary, just a day's waiting time. Believe me, Sony is going to get this fixed otherwise they will have a class action lawsuit on their doorstep if everyone needed to buy a new console.

It's anyone's guess right now but some people believe similar to the Zune glitch, once a day passes the clock will move back over to a date that exists and all problems will be solved.
If you're really impatient, keep refreshing the PlayStation Twitter feed, I'll post it in the video description as once Sony knows the problem it should be posted there immediately.
