best goalie of all time period. He didnt start in nhl until his late 20's due to in part to not being freely able to move to north amercia being barred by the steel cutrain. He wasn't blessed in having crunch defenses like brodeur, or a power house team like colorado, he made the sabres, he used to face 40 shots in a era where 25 shots was considered a lot, always ranked 3rd in hockey talks behind roy and marty and look at the teams those guys played for, marty had 6 shots one game.
@derekflach33 he won MVP goalie and player in the Czech league almost every year he was there....it would have been interesting to see him in the NHL earlier although his timing to come was stellar, he loved to play in Czech and was king there

@RG32hockey Hasek had better playoff numbers than Roy his whole career. How he didn't win a Conn Smythe I don't know. He should of won it back in 98 but we all know what happened that year. Winning is based on team success retard. Not individual success. It's not my fault you don't want to accept the facts and numbers. Hart Trophy means you are the best player in the league that year. Hasek won two. Which is more valuable than any Conn Smythe trophy.
@hardworker0707 i thin you meen in 99 against the stars. and thats the only year he could have won it and like i said in his only stanley cup were he was the starting goalie and he won: he had and average of 24 shots against per game. in overall ya ill give it to you he had better stats but what im saying is that roy led his team to victory 4 times earning 3 times mvp and you can ask any player or goalie in the nhl they'll say they prefer winning playoff mvp instead of the hart trophy!
@RG32hockey Agreed... I am a die hard Sabres fan and enjoyed every second of Haseks time here....Roy was clutch in the playoffs.... The only thing in Haseks favor is the fact that for the majority of his career in buffalo, he faced 35-45 shots a game......
@RG32hockey Hasek has better numbers, more records, and a hell of a lot more silverware. Thus, making him the BETTER goalie. If a man is 5'4 and is judged against a man who is 6 feet to see who is taller, is 6 feet not taller than 5'4? It is a fact Hasek is a better goalie by his numbers. I've proven that to you and you have proven me nothing. All you keep doing is saying Hasek didn't win Conn Smythe. Well Roy didn't even come CLOSE to winning a Hart Trophy. Sorry buddy, Hasek is just better.
@RG32hockey No, Tim Thomas is not. He had one great season. Hasek had about 10 great seasons. Tim Thomas has no competition in goaltending these days while Hasek had Brodeur and Roy at their primes. Tim Thomas doesn't even have a quarter of the silverware Hasek does. Tim Thomas has one of the best teams in the league in front of him, while Hasek played with below average players most of his career. Tim Thomas is a great goalie no doubt, but to compare him to Hasek...I dunno maybe Brodeur.
@hardworker0707 uhm no competion they're plenty of great goalies in the nhl: pekka rinne, carey price, brodeur, luongo, ryan miller, johnathan quick, jimmy howard, those are all elite goaltenders. back when hasek was playing you didnt have alot of goalies with 2.10-2.30 gaa now you got alot thats because they're are better goalies now a days.
P.S. tim thomas had 2 incrdble season. if i recall hes won the vezina 2 years ago and hes gonna win it this year, he has a conn smythe, hasek dosent...
@RG32hockey Hasek would own the record in wins and shutouts if he played as long as Brodeur and Roy. Hasek stopped pucks better than any other goalie and carried his team harder than any other player in history. Look at all those awards he's won and records he holds. Compare it to Roy and Brodeur's records, awards, and stats, he has the better resume. Bar none.
@hardworker0707 as i said alot of times... a goalie is based on WINNING. patrick roy won 4 stanley cup and 3 conn smythes. 2 of those cups were because of him. hasek's only cup was with a great red wings team led by brendan shanahan, steve yzerman, lidstrom, etc. hasek was great during the regular season but he never had that standout stanley cup playoffs were he was the reason they won. thats the difference in between a great goalie and a legend.
@RG32hockey You must be retarded or just selectively reading. Hasek won 2 cups. TWO not one. Hasek never had the standout stanley cup final? Are you kidding me? When he won his first cup he set a new shutout playoff record with 6 shutouts. He had a g.a.a. of 1.87. I didn't see Roy do that. You just talk out of your ass. Do you also remember hasek brining the sabres to 2 wins of the stanley cup only to be screwed by a blown call? Remember, anytime Roy and hasek went head to head, Hasek won.
@hardworker0707 how am i retarded ok ok hasek has 2 stanley cups but im couting the ones he won not the ones chris osgood won cuz hasek played 4 games with a .888 S% and a 2.91 gaa. and hasek's cup was with a 920 s% and he had 1.86 gaa thats cuz he had 24 shots per game.patrick roy's stats stanley cup wins are: 1.92GAA .923%, 2.13GAA .929% and 1.70GAA .934% and 4 SO. hasek did not win the conn smythe in 01-02 thats because he was not the main reason for the win. roy: 29 Shot per game in the 4 SC
@hardworker0707 no way not in wins if he had played as much as roy he would have 544 wins, roy has 551. if he had played as much as brodeur, he would have had 599 wins, brodeur has 625.
@hardworker0707 dude if hasek would have played as long as roy hed have 544 wins roy has 551 if he had played has long as brodeur: hed have 599 brodeur has 625. on top of that, roy started his career in the mid 80'S in the HIGH SCORING NHL. hasek is great and all but roy is a WINNER
@RG32hockey Clearly you can't do math. If Hasek played on a team like Detroit most of his career where he was getting 40+ wins than he would easily have over 700 wins by the time he was Brodeurs age. Even if he played the same amount of games as Brodeur he would own the shutout record. Look at haseks playoff numbers compared to Roys. He OWNS him. He has the better save percentage and GAA. He also has had the better single playoffs between the two. Like, look at the numbers man, it doesn't lie.
Hasek played on the lesser team throughout his career compared to Roy and Brodeur. Hasek has a lot more vezinas, Hart Trophies, better save percentage and G.A.A. . Hasek played almost half as much games as these guys. If he played equal games, he would have more wins AND shutouts than Brodeur. The ONLY reason Hasek is not considered the best goalie of all time is because he is not Canadian. Wayne Gretzky even said "Dominic Hasek is the best player in the game today." Stats don't lie. Hasek#1.
@hardworker0707 difference is brodeur and roy were in the elite group for all there 20 year career but hasek only started to get noticed at the age of 25-26 years old. looking at his style of goaltending he probably only developped later than most goalies cuz teams passed on him cuz his stats werent that impressive in czech leagues. hes wat we call a late bloomer. and the difference between him and brodeur and roy: he only has one cup. with a detroit. roy won 2 cups with a shitty mtl team.
@RG32hockey you couldn't be more wrong. He was the BEST goalie in Europe for a span of 10 years. He was not a late bloomer. He didn't play in the NHL early because the NHL did not draft many European goalies at the time. His stats were amazing, which is why he was then drafted to the NHL. Oh and he won 2 cups, not 1. Brodeur and Roy couldn't even touch Hasek when he came into the league. They don't even have Hart Trophies, while Hasek has TWO. If you compares resumes, Hasek is the best. Fact.
@hardworker0707 they didnt draft manny europeens but he still got drafted at 18 years old by an nhl team. look hasek won 1 stanley cup. patrick roy won 4, brodeur has 3. patrick roy has 3 conn smythes also including 2 with the canadiens, both times in a team that had no hope of winning the cup without him. ill take a goalie with 3 conn smythes any day over one with 2 harts. a goalie is based on winning. brodeur and roy are reconnized for being winners. hasek: for his crazy saves.
@RG32hockey Lol are you trying to compare Roy's silverware with Hasek's? Hasek has a silver mine in front of him compared to Roy. Oh and for the second time Hasek won 2 cups. 3 conn smythes compared to 2 hart trophies back to back are inferior. I don't think you realize how big of an accomplishment it is for a goalie to win a Hart Trophy. There have been many goalies who have won the Conn Smythe compared to the Hart Trophy, thus a less prestigious award for a goalie.
@RG32hockey he was in international team in 80s in czechoslovakia, how you can talk about czechoslovakian hockey league when you didnt see any match. This was best league in europe if you dont count CSKA Moscow in USSR. All best czechoslovakian players in one league of 12 or 14 teams. Amateur league in these times. There was one guy in crowd who made statistics like shots, time on ice etc. :) You cant believe all numbers you see.
@RG32hockey I dont want to fall in battle "who is better", but some of your arguments are very weak. Late bloomer in age 25-26 ? Do you ignore political situation in communist europe in 1989? Do you know iron curtain term ? If not, then believe or not, it felt in Czechoslovakia in 17th november 1989, Hasek appeared in NHL 1990, he was born 1965. So try to count how old he was when he had chance to leave Czechoslovakia. Oooops is it number 25 ? Damn, I was just lucky with that quiz.
Nice video man. Hasek is not only one of the best goalkeeper ever,he is a fair play man in his live too. Hope we will have a chance to see more players with such a chracter. Thank you Dominik
When my littlebrother saw this video for the first time, he hadn't never before watched hockey (he was 6), after 5 seconds he said: "Wow, He must be the Hasek..."
Man styles is not important for goalkeeper....goalkeeper must stop puck before line....and Hasek is the best goalie ever because he stopped puck in 99% time
If you want to talk simply keeping the puck from crossing the goal line, Hasek is the greatest. But Plante and Brodeur have the stick ability, Roy was an innovator, and Hall, Sawchuk, Hainsworth and Tony O played in the no mask era and were way ahead of their times. So tough to pick the greatest, but Hasek makes as good a case as any of those guys.
@hockeyhiss Although their styles are different, I think Thomas has proven that unorthodox styles do work. They are both extremely athletic and acrobatic, relying on their reflexes to save them when they are out of position. Haseks style would work in any era, now or in the future, because he simply stops pucks.
I love Hasek. Having him on the Wings was an absolute dream, both times around. Having both he AND Osgood was even better. I dearly miss those days. He's a great guy and an unbelievable competitor.
Latest news for all Dominik's fans: today he and his team Pardubice won the Czech national hockey league! Dominik had a fantastic season and was absolutely amazing, esp. in the final matches! CONGRATS!!! (I wish he was our golie for the championship this year.)
Hasek is great goaltender and so is Roy...They are both one of the best goaltenders NHL has ever seen. I think that Dominator, Roy and Brodeur are the best.
Comparing Roy and Hasek is pointless. Hasek has a much more unrefined style of goal tending. Just count the number of times he ends up either on his back or in an awkward position flailing around. It's not a negative thing since the only thing that matters is keeping the puck out of the net. I personally am not a fan of Hasek but it's impossible to not respect him.
My favorite Goaltender is Jean-Sebastien Giguere, although he is not so good today. He Showed a heroic goal tending in 2002/2003. Because I am Czech, I also like Dominator, as anobody else in my country. But I agree with you, Roy was (is?) a great goal tender, and his style looks better.
definitively dominik hasek. the duel between this two goalie are won by the dominator: Nagano 1998 and conference final 2002. Hasek won 6 vezina trophies. During hasek play, roy won 0 vezina trophies.
That's true. Compare the two goal tenders from 1994 to when Hasek left the NHL in 2002, you'll see that Hasek owned Roy in every category except for wins. Save Percentage is most important because it's the only stat not team dependent. Hasek won 6 Vezina and 2 Hart trophies as team's MVP. Dam! How many goal tenders have won a Hart Trophy once? During this time Roy never won a Vezina with Hasek around and he certainly never won the Hart trophy either. Hasek was an All Star 6 times to Roy's 1.
I agree too, he is the best in my opinion. Started late and did so much, he is what I call a Goalie ninja. He deployed the ninja tactics. Awesome vid here too.
Hašek je nej. Ten jeho jedinečný styl, se kterým uhranul NHL je nezapomenutelný. Vždy, když jde do tuhého, zahodí svoji hokejku a čapá puk do svých ZLATÝCH ČESKÝCH RUČIČEK.
shut up, Brodeur played with great team all of his career. Watch how many game he played vs the number of game that Hasek played. If Hasek played the same game of Brodeur and start his career early, he have the record of wins and shutoots. He just start to play regurly in NHL at 28 years old.
Hasek was my hero since my childhood. I was fan the Buffalo and czech national hockey representation, although I am from Slovakia. Nowadays he is weak, but his time was amazing.
@vega21 also zetterberg has a better post season point percentage than mario, sakic, yzerman, or federov. regular season hes sub-par playoff wise hes probably one of the best people you could take.
@20003606 Go watch some of the former Soviet Union players... there you'll find tons of great players, or try some of those that play now like Jagr,Datsyuk etc.
@Demandred02 datsyuks my favorite player his offensive ability is great and he is the best defensive forward in the league. in my opinion he could be consider the best in the league dispite his drop in numbers this season due to the wings injured list. he plays like 5-6 mins less than stars like ovechkin and crosby yet a typicaly stays 10-15 points below them while still being the best devensive forward in the leauge.
@20003606 You both are stupid. 1st Hasek did fall at the end of his career, but zetterberg isnt even at the end of his career so you cant say he is the best. and Lidstrom maybe, Forsberg is lightyears ahead of those guys even though injuries plagued his career, by far the most skilled. and won cups.
@Slipknot5301 that wasnt the end of his career actually. First I meant fall apart as in injuires. As his career got older he started getting injured quiet often, and he still didnt put up the number he used to also. He had a not so good yr last yr in KHL and this yr he is 4-7 with 897%
it didnt matter who he played for he took over.
whether it was playoffs, olympics or season he controlled ice surface
we have never seen someone like his kind

won every award at least 3-4 times in the Czech league
11th all time in wins...due to him joining NHL when 29...could easily be top 3. no doubt
most games by european goalie (700)....broke the mould & many STEREOTYPES
jacques plante had 7 vezinas (played for legendary teams though )
Hasek had SIX....we know who's king though
GoodOleGreenEyes 4 days ago
2 LesterB Pearson trophies (VOTED BY ppl who PLAY AGAINST HIM)
3 Jennings trophies (team with less amount of goals scored against)
majorally did that on a team that had ZERO defence, barely any offence and NEVER should have made the stanley cup finals.....that is UNHEARD OF.....
Nominated for NHL MVP 3 other times.....could have easily won those years during a time that the NHL was filled with sooo many all-stars (90's)
has won just about every international award you can think of

DOMINIK HASEK....BETTER & heres why people:
6 GOALIE MVP'S
2 mvp's in a row (goalie record)
1998 GOLD MEDAL ...... stopped every canadian shooter & shut out russia in final
.922 save % (highest all time)
single greatest performance in nhl history (4OT 70 shot shutout) wtf !
greatest non-canadian talent of all time(even better than tretiak)
EVERYONE in the league praised hasek INCLUDING GRETZKY
first goalie since mid 70's to have below 2.00 G.A.A (early in career too)

ONLY reason patrick roy is considered better is because of his playoff performance.
This is the truest fact about his greatness.
He was THIS great cuz he won in post season.
Most games played, wins and shutouts in playoffs.
3 CONN SMYTHES FOR PLAYOFF MVP!!
AND 4 STANLEY CUPS

@hardworker0707 difference is brodeur and roy were in the elite group for all there 20 year career but hasek only started to get noticed at the age of 25-26 years old. looking at his style of goaltending he probably only developped later than most goalies cuz teams passed on him cuz his stats werent that impressive in czech leagues. hes wat we call a late bloomer. and the difference between him and brodeur and roy: he only has one cup. with a detroit. roy won 2 cups with a shitty mtl team.
RG32hockey 7 months ago
@RG32hockey you couldn't be more wrong. He was the BEST goalie in Europe for a span of 10 years. He was not a late bloomer. He didn't play in the NHL early because the NHL did not draft many European goalies at the time. His stats were amazing, which is why he was then drafted to the NHL. Oh and he won 2 cups, not 1. Brodeur and Roy couldn't even touch Hasek when he came into the league. They don't even have Hart Trophies, while Hasek has TWO. If you compares resumes, Hasek is the best. Fact.
hardworker0707 7 months ago
@hardworker0707 they didnt draft manny europeens but he still got drafted at 18 years old by an nhl team. look hasek won 1 stanley cup. patrick roy won 4, brodeur has 3. patrick roy has 3 conn smythes also including 2 with the canadiens, both times in a team that had no hope of winning the cup without him. ill take a goalie with 3 conn smythes any day over one with 2 harts. a goalie is based on winning. brodeur and roy are reconnized for being winners. hasek: for his crazy saves.
RG32hockey 7 months ago
@RG32hockey Lol are you trying to compare Roy's silverware with Hasek's? Hasek has a silver mine in front of him compared to Roy. Oh and for the second time Hasek won 2 cups. 3 conn smythes compared to 2 hart trophies back to back are inferior. I don't think you realize how big of an accomplishment it is for a goalie to win a Hart Trophy. There have been many goalies who have won the Conn Smythe compared to the Hart Trophy, thus a less prestigious award for a goalie.
hardworker0707 7 months ago
@RG32hockey he was in international team in 80s in czechoslovakia, how you can talk about czechoslovakian hockey league when you didnt see any match. This was best league in europe if you dont count CSKA Moscow in USSR. All best czechoslovakian players in one league of 12 or 14 teams. Amateur league in these times. There was one guy in crowd who made statistics like shots, time on ice etc. :) You cant believe all numbers you see.
volyn 7 months ago
@RG32hockey I dont want to fall in battle "who is better", but some of your arguments are very weak. Late bloomer in age 25-26 ? Do you ignore political situation in communist europe in 1989? Do you know iron curtain term ? If not, then believe or not, it felt in Czechoslovakia in 17th november 1989, Hasek appeared in NHL 1990, he was born 1965. So try to count how old he was when he had chance to leave Czechoslovakia. Oooops is it number 25 ? Damn, I was just lucky with that quiz.

So tough to pick the greatest, but Hasek makes as good a case as any of those guys.
theatlantisrise 1 year ago
back in the day he was great, he could pull it off, but his last few years were pathetic, he should have stayed retired after 2002.
in the new nhl his style would never work
hockeyhiss 1 year ago
@hockeyhiss Although their styles are different, I think Thomas has proven that unorthodox styles do work. They are both extremely athletic and acrobatic, relying on their reflexes to save them when they are out of position. Haseks style would work in any era, now or in the future, because he simply stops pucks.

broci nevímte pls co je to za song ?
nacelnik010 1 year ago
Comparing Roy and Hasek is pointless. Hasek has a much more unrefined style of goal tending. Just count the number of times he ends up either on his back or in an awkward position flailing around. It's not a negative thing since the only thing that matters is keeping the puck out of the net. I personally am not a fan of Hasek but it's impossible to not respect him.
Mindlessvstheo 1 year ago
My favorite Goaltender is Jean-Sebastien Giguere, although he is not so good today. He Showed a heroic goal tending in 2002/2003. Because I am Czech, I also like Dominator, as anobody else in my country. But I agree with you, Roy was (is?) a great goal tender, and his style looks better.

Who is better Dominik Hašek or Patrik Roy?
19Sakicj 2 years ago
definitively dominik hasek. the duel between this two goalie are won by the dominator: Nagano 1998 and conference final 2002. Hasek won 6 vezina trophies. During hasek play, roy won 0 vezina trophies.
Gab3919 2 years ago
Roy won 2 Vezina Trophy, 3 Conn Smythe Trophy and 4 Stanley Cup
19Sakicj 2 years ago
He won 3 vezina trophy when hasek don't play in NHL.
Gab3919 2 years ago
That's true. Compare the two goal tenders from 1994 to when Hasek left the NHL in 2002, you'll see that Hasek owned Roy in every category except for wins. Save Percentage is most important because it's the only stat not team dependent. Hasek won 6 Vezina and 2 Hart trophies as team's MVP. Dam! How many goal tenders have won a Hart Trophy once? During this time Roy never won a Vezina with Hasek around and he certainly never won the Hart trophy either. Hasek was an All Star 6 times to Roy's 1.

@20003606 Go watch some of the former Soviet Union players... there you'll find tons of great players, or try some of those that play now like Jagr,Datsyuk etc.
Demandred02 1 year ago
@Demandred02 datsyuks my favorite player his offensive ability is great and he is the best defensive forward in the league. in my opinion he could be consider the best in the league dispite his drop in numbers this season due to the wings injured list. he plays like 5-6 mins less than stars like ovechkin and crosby yet a typicaly stays 10-15 points below them while still being the best devensive forward in the leauge.

Gab3919 1 year ago
@20003606 You both are stupid. 1st Hasek did fall at the end of his career, but zetterberg isnt even at the end of his career so you cant say he is the best. and Lidstrom maybe, Forsberg is lightyears ahead of those guys even though injuries plagued his career, by far the most skilled. and won cups.
