  • its masterclass, so smoooth and cool!

  • Genius pure and simple.

  • DA DA DA!

  • WHAT A SONG.......WHAT A VERSION

  • Hate Bono, but this has given me new respect .,.. love the electric guitar on the chorus ... haunting>

  • Leonard Cohen has a beautiful voice.

    Uhhhhhhhhhuhhh...

  • I love Leonard Cohen and i usually love U2, but they are not quite up for this song to be honest. Bono can be annoying sometimes and this is unfortunately one of them :/

  • ya know, i'm continualy amazed at how willing people are to condem other people for simply being human... i really like u2, and if they want to sing and play with someone they honestly respect, i dont see why thats such a big problem.

  • I Love A Man With Heart...

  • Közönöm !

  • great !!!!!!! thanks for poting that vid !!!

  • Bono should be sentenced for this.

  • u2 did a pretty good job of wrecking this song, which is very hard to do considering how good it is

  • @waaast Our Bono sounds pretty squeaky next to Cohen!!!

  • i dont agree with the comments here, as much as i don't like Paul, I can't begrudge the fact that he want's to work with HIS musical hero's, his influences. He does make a donkies bollox of this song though! U2 Joshua Tree, thats about as good an album as one can listen to.

  • I question Cohen's choice to let U2 in on the performance, but not even Bono can ruin this perfect song, though not for lack of trying.

  • @buckleygeneration as much as I disagree with your U2 bashing, I concede that maybe this is necessary for the music of older legends to continue existing. U2 are the 'new boys in town' relative to Cohen, and I understand how you would prefer the LC-only original. Just like how I was (*@#&( pissed with Mary Blige wrecking the U2 masterpiece, emotional and understated, with her excessive wailing flourishings.

  • @buckleygeneration (continued) But this might be a necessary evil. mary Blige's feature introduced One, though ravaged, to a new audience of popular radio listeners. Like how I'm now introduced to LC via U2 (I'm 20). And there's no better way that to discover music organically, on your own. *off to check out LC's Hallelujah, since he was the original composer*

  • @comp0stable While you obviously know that I dislike U2, is has much more to do with image and personality than it necessarily does with music, though their music past 2000 has really only been getting worse for me. A big problem for me is how Bono always attempts to associate himself with older, much better musicians, and how he wants to set himself up as an equal to them, when he just isn't. But I do like some of U2's music, and I heartily agree with you on the Mary J Blige thing.

  • @comp0stable (cont.) You make some good points overall. Thank you for being one of few Youtube users who try for intelligent discussion.

  • "It's a voice marinated in Kirschwasser, sulfur, deer musk and snow; bandaged with sackcloth from a ruined monastery; warmed by the embers left down near the river after the gypsies have gone. He has a voice like a carpet in an old hotel, like a bad itch on the hunchback of love. It is a voice meant for pronouncing the names of women – and cataloging their sometimes hazardous charms. Nobody can say the word “naked” as nakedly as Cohen He makes us see the markings where the pantyhose have been."

  • Hell of a songwriter.

  • I could listen to him for hours and hours! Thanks!

  • Cohen's voice is brilliant, for me better than the original recording. Add to it Edge's poignant guitar work and you have a masterpiece.

  • Love this tune sooo much it's better than sex!!!! But i haven't had sex in a while so MEH what can i compare it too??...Luv U U2 and Cohen...Canada's forgotten gem

  • What a voice from Leonard Cohen ...

    Unbelievable ...

Like a wine ... he's getting better with ages

  • I don't see how this is in any way better than without Bono & The Gang.

  • 3 people couldn't pay their rent in the tower of song

  • Edge con due note ti fa appendere la chitarra al chiodo.

  • If the music Gods are listning please please have Leonard Cohen and U2 make a cd together. It would be EPIC.

  • Exquisite! The master among the masters. This man, Leonard Cohen, is a God and a gentleman. The day I saw him performing in Las Vegas, it was a great day in my lifetime. He doesn't know how important he is... a man of virtues.

  • Wonderful. I love U2 and I'm crazy about Leonard.

  • I love this man with our without U2

  • Does anyone else think Adam Clayton and Leonard Cohen look extremely alike?

  • @Entertainer114 It's just the silver hair and style... just the hair.

  • Thank you for posting, I LOVE this song, and thank you U2 to do this, it is beautiful:-)

  • Martha Wainwright does a great job of this song.

  • What DVD is this video from.. I see people mention it... but I havent figured out what the DVD is......

  • So totaly fantastic

  • This song is awesome! Leonard Cohen is superb. It's too bad that this documentary was marred by Bono's absurdly pretentious commentary. Oh well. Still great stuff.

  • his best song.

  • Brilliant! Just watching the DVD now!

  • Cracks me up. Unbelievable!

  • that golden voice
