Obviously people don't understand what the "cloud" is. Its thousands upon thousands of internet servers that store information and back each other up making the chance of data loss very low... The cloud wont blow up and we lose everything...
What happens if the cloud blows up due to a divine intervention or natural catastrophe?? or is the cloud located deep underground in a nuclear shelter.. and backed up on a space station server on mars??
So my all personal data will stay to other people hands? huh. Because it has not local hard drive. I would prefer to keep my all personal stuff at my own hard disk. Is it not lot safer? I am so worried and waiting to hear a big disaster news that Donald Trump's all the acount info that he might save with Chromebook might have gone to bad people hands. I would recommend before jumping to that new tech think twice. Really you want to put your neck to other people hands? how safer it is?
why not google give their pilot chromebooks to people who actually know something about a computer, like IT professionals; instead of people who work for a damn deli.
@MrCurryeater259 I'll explain it slowly using simple words. The point is that chromebooks are really easy for everyone to use, including people who know nothing about a computer.
ok first of all read this and dont mark it as spam. I'm not here to support linux ubuntu yet imagine if you are in a country that internet is expensive and you use low speed internet then what's the use this chromebook, What if there is problem in my modem.
Will google give me cheap internet or repair my modem. Linux is better (ubuntu)
@WeblogMaster12 That depends on the task. I don't think Ubuntu - or other Linux distros - are nessesairily better, when it comes to fx. surfing. Where they win, I think is in fx. heavy editing of film or music. But this is aimed at the users who are always online anyway, and here ChromeOS might win.
My concern with this approach is the privacy. I need some kind of proof to that Google are 100% safe with my data. They have been hacked before, you know.
@jaydipppatel this is for enterprises, I think if businesses are signing up to this, it probably costs less than say giving your employee a window laptop and that comes with anti-virus software licencse.
I think that the best advantage of this kind of product, is that needs to be cheap, I mean, around the $200 or $250, because more of that ($400 o $450), the customers sure will ask why the "need" a Chromebook if the can get a PC with that money, having more resources and compatibility with their desktop software.
I like the Chromebooks concept, I really do, but with that prize, I wouldn't get it, I would prefer to get a tablet.
To the people who say that it's useless without internet connection: it absolutely is not useless. If you want to get 3G, that's great. Even with no connection whatsoever, there's still plenty of apps that will work offline, particularly games (Angry Birds, anyone?). You can also take notes, read webpages that you've saved using "Read Later Fast," and more. It's in no way a "brick" without connection.
I'm actually writing this from a Cr-48! I have to say, ever since I got it back in January, it's become my primary computer (I also have machines running Windows Vista, 7, Ubuntu, and Splashtop). If you think about it, there is likely very little you do on a computer besides using the Internet. Chrome OS makes it simple and easy; it's so light and portable that I take it everywhere with me, and it's 5-8 second boot up (and instant wake from sleep) are amazing.
@awanaismylife Not to mention its automatic updates, great notifications, no worries about getting viruses, personalization, syncing, fantastic keyboard and touchpad, etc..
If you have any more questions about Chrome OS, visit Chrome OS Lounge (google it).
google its so big, just because the ignorance of people that give him their money without asking nothing, they go with the big corporation because the other option its not comfortable enough, so google gets even bigger and mantain monopoly, when a new company its just starting up, its obvious its not goin to be perfect, but you dont give them a chance and go with google, so the little guy will never be competitive and then has no option but to sell, and let google put its brand on it, pure evil!
@johnnylin0924 Not much. It's more for people who consider getting a netbook. Netbooks are specifically targetted at people who want to use the web. Because they have such low ram and harddrives, there's not much software that can run on it. So it's literally used JUST for browsing.
Google have just taken the pointless hassle and software out of netbooks. You can probably run more powerful web apps on a Chromebook than you can software on a netbook.
All well and good. But here in Australia mobile data is expensive. And if you head overseas, roaming charges are a killer. So you'd have to get a local sim where ever you go because you won't always have a free wifi connection.
From the video: "Whenever you need a replacement you just [get a new laptop] and you're up and running!"
The ideas are amazing. But I can't help but feel this vision would bring us to a time of disposable computing. Great for data retention, bad for waste. I'd really like to know how involved Google is in addressing global e-waste issues.
@bassemb Well, it kind of is in a sense. Just because it's easily replaceable doesn't mean that people will be more reckless with it. It will still cost you $200 to $300 and if you break it, the time wasted in acquiring a new one would be enough to prevent you just chucking it around. It's lightweight minimal design and super light OS already requires less resources than a typical Dell or MacBook. It's not going to win any races but it will get most people online happily.
@johnmacward Google is offering Hardware as a Service which includes upgrades and replacement. I would like to know where you get your pricing on replacement costs since this is obviously a business enterprise solution and not a consumer issue.
@johnz7777 Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't know exact pricing of Chromebooks - I'm giving an example estimate for the sake of someone saying "the cheap price means we'll waste lots of them".
The rough prices Google are talking about is Acer's at $300 and Samsungs at $400 but it's still early. Obviously, the overall point I'm making is even if you pay $10 for it you wont necessarily throw it around because it's cheap - you want it to work after all.
@johnmacward Business solutions Chromebooks are leased for the contract term. They are doing the top Samsung notebooks for $33 a month per user. We are obviously talking about different things though as this video concentrates on the business segment of the market and not the consumer segment. I've also never had a person bad mouthing a company for not replacing their laptop when they destroy the physical component. I also failed to notice you were commenting to someone else haha.
