Hilarious moment at 2:12! "I'm being punished for not coming to rehearsal today!" Madonna is actually funny as hell! The crowd can sense that as well with her comedic timing! She is such a star! Love Madonna!
what an entertainer, through and through. she can make that boring droll of a speech charming. i miss the young, charming, not mellowed out madonna with dark hair.
are you an "M' fan at all ?? WTF are you talking about....this was real early in her career...she does admit alot that intially when ask to do stuff like this or perform, she gets nerveous,...

She gets so nervous because she knows how shallow a talent she is.
There are women all over the world with more actual singing ability and soul that Madonna will never posses. Yet using the lowest form of sexual come ons...she sells her show to the masses who don't want quality...they want spectacle. And without that big fake show she is nervous because there's no clothes on the Empress at all.
Read her brother's book; she's also a complete control freak and vain to the hilt.
I go back to my shallow tastes in music and you get the fuck off youtube! Deal? By the way, I did not know I have racist feelings, where did you get that from? I dont care if you are latin, spanish, eskimo, male, female or both! I just dont like people who think they are high and mighty just because they have watched Judge Judy...the so called same robot music crap sold 400 million records, thank you very much!
The story might have got more laughs if it sounded natural. Not saying she's stupid, or a bad person, or whatever it is some of you other guys are saying... I just hate when somebody tells a story that they know so little about that they have to read from a teleprompter.

She's a robot. Wooden. Wooden. Wooden. Terrible actress. God, this is BAD. Bland, repetitive... She can't speak naturally. Sad. I own all her records.
well she's not a robot, she's just reciting a very long introduction that she clearly hasn't rehearsed. You can clearly hear the difference when she ad libs in between. The audience obviously agrees by applauding when she states 'I'm being punished for not coming to rehearsals today".
It actually makes it more interesting than if she had done it perfectly.
The point I'm making is that she's a terrific entertainer (I own all her records: I'm a huge fan) but a TERRIBLE orator. She could rehearse the arse off the speech and still sound wooden because she cannot ACT. Ad libbing she's funny because she's being HERSELF i.e. off script. Geddit, dear?
Oh I know you weren't questioning her entertainment value. I don't really think this has anything to do with acting. The best orators are usually so because of charm, personality, there's something charismatic about them and what they say, scripted or otherwise. Doesn't mean that same person would be a great actor. Some of the skills are similar you might say, but it's like the difference between a great soul singer trying to do Classical Opera. similar discipline, but different muscle strengths
sorry but you are so wrong , this woman can act..have you not seen EVITA, or A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, or SWEPT AWAY, or even NEXT BEST THING, i didn't even pull out DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN..get your facts straight she's not bette davis but she can act....
I have an interview from back in 1984 and you can hear her pronouncing her vowels that way. She is not a poser. Maybe her "accent" is more pronounced in recent years, but that's just because she's lived in England for so long. You can't live somewhere for an extended period of time and not pick up some of the local accent. She was married to a brit as well, so what do you expect?
Like if you ever saw the one interview where she and Rosie O'donnel were on Arsenio Hall, she sort of had a bit a of new york thing going on. She was with Rosie often at that time so she sort of picked it up.
But I feel like in this clip she is speaking how she usually does. There is nothing british or new york sounding about it. It's just her voice.
madonna is not a wannabe englishwoman...she grew up with italian dadmother of french background (before she died) and so madonna'saccent is is influenced by all these european types and at times as such it may sound rather british!! especially when she is trying to speak "properly"
exactly! And it's been said that the english speak much more properly because that is the way their vowels come out. So if she is trying to sound more proper and she sounds a bit british, that doesn't make her a wannabee.
She has always been that way before she ever set foot in london.
Brilliant seeing the wonderful Glenda Jackson in this clip chortling away!
Madonna wasn't great until she did the genuine ad lib about 'being punished' and then the audience were genuinely on her side and she sailed it. If only she could be a bit spontaneous more often.
People always says Madonna is trying to put on a British accent. She is actually trying to perfect what is called a "Mid Atlantic Accent" which is what most stage actors would use up until the 60's. Frasier is a good example of this. She knows what she is doing. Brilliant!
Shes not a stage actress. shes not really even an actress.
stay true to your roots is what I say. she sounds normal here. she sounds forced and down right rude now.
The MAA was used for actors transitioning from silent to talkie films. most of them didn't know how to speak well, so they used stage actors (mostly shakespearean) to train them. that's why it ended in the 60s'..they died.

She acts like one of the Dummies on Judge Judy who think they have to lean down to get picked up by the mike.
A real Pro?
Her whiney voice is so hard...the opposite of a feminine vibe.
And her body looks like she had a sex change from male to ....whatever she is.
You'd think with her millions she would hire good songwriters and great musicians...but it's always the same robot music crap.
