I used to have an Acer Laptop (7520g) which had some small hatch made to clean the fan where my current HP isn't working properly anymore because of cleaning the fan.. Everything works except the Cable-LAN Port because I forgot to inplug it... But well at least I have a laptop now. And besides that I'm glad I have a custom built desktop with good fans.

Lol i dremmeled a hole before the heatsink in the fan so i can clean it easily... looks horrible though.... temp stays around 45 though so thats ALOT better... (was originally at 60+)

As a side note, this is one of the reasons I don`t buy Helwett-Prickerd products. I thought to myself "as Jeremy Clarkson would say, How hard can it be?" Took less than ten minutes to flip my Acer Aspire around, screw ONE PANEL off, screw the fan out, clean it and throw the whole thing back together.

OMG this is hilarious! I threw a q on one forum yesterday about how to clean the fan of my laptop and as a response i was linked here! I LMAOd all the way the first time, had to listen to it a couple more times just for the laughs, got it stuck in my head for the whole friggin day and had to come back today to comment. and this is why you DON'T buy an HP or a Dell. in fact, if you clean the fan after you've had them for a few years they'll still overheat unless you repaste the processor like he does here lol. do yourself a favor and buy a Lenovo ThinkPad, because they are built properly and pasted properly from the factory. hilarious song, love it.

PS: It helps if you make a screw map as you're taking it apart, friends. I like to take pictures of what I'm doing as I do it, personally. Also, make SURE to plug everything in when you're putting it back together. It's downright embarrassing to have to unscrew a panel all over again because you forgot the keyboard or the mouse.

@cesarin1968 IIRC blowing in compressed air can just make the dust disperse itself inside your laptop. Watch out for that :/ also it doesn't always get everything, especially that weird dust that has a tendency to stick to shit.

No, not any harder on a Mac. I just REPLACED the two fans in a MacBook Pro. My boss's laptop - no pressure there. And as another commenter states, It was basically a total refurb: added memory while in there, cleaned out entire cavity, blew out keyboard, even tapped out a dent . . . . I think it was much easier than what this video portrays.

To be fair, once you've gone so far to clean your fan, you've basically refurbished the entire computer internally. It should serve you for many years to come, provided you didn't screw up something.

Seriously though, biggest pieces of advice for taking electronics apart:

1. Go slow, no reason to rush.

2. Place the parts in some kind of order as you remove them, so you know how they go back in.

3. DON'T FORCE THINGS! Very few things needs to be forced to be taken out/in. But if you do come across something that does need to be slightly forced, GO SLOW!

I've just had a similar experience with a Sony Vaio. Such a malicious design, I was nearly in tears at the end. I didn't have to mess with thermal paste but I had to remove nearly everything and still I broke some of the plastic casing, just so I could do some routine cleaning. Fuck you Sony, never again. I don't know if Macs are the answer.

Toshiba laptops are just as bad... complete disassembly to get at it.

A quicker method if your laptop allows for it is to put a high power vacuum on the fan's inlet. Blow high pressure compressed air (canned dusters may work but usually they don't have the pressure needed) on the fan's outlet. That will also get the dust out in a hurry.

Your problem is that you bought an HP laptop which has the reputation of being the Yugo of the PC world. You could have bought a Lenovo and just popped the keyboard off and actually there are a lot easier ways of cleaning the fan than you did.
