@dianedominique he's irish so yeah, he just puts on an american accent for the films. see the interview for inception and he has that accent (i think its adorable lol)
When I saw the film, I thought that this happened because both Pig and Runt had been involved in violent activities within the town! The local people didn't like them because they had beaten up the lad to get free drinks! He could well have been a relative of the audience? I loved the song myself.
sorry brooklyn60 but im afraid ur wrong, im from ireland n no all bout the hostilities, i can safely say the irish are not that sensetive bout the situation that they would get upset just because he s singing an english song. Its simply because they are old and its a rock song
I'm glad you brought up Germany(this makes my stance stronger). You can't speak for 6 billion people. I know a myriad of Jewish people who would never step a foot in Germany(even today).Again...you are British NOT a native born Irish individual. I am friends with many Irish people, and they would stand in my corner to correct you. Some of them are not big fan's of the British.
Sorry - I'm not a part of this argument at all, but I just wanted to add my two cents; I also know a 'myriad of Jewish people', and none of them hold any animosity towards Germany nor towards current German citizens.
And to add on, I know many Irish and British citizens who are completely comfortable with each other. I think it really depends on the person, and the experiences that their families have gone through.
But for the most part, I think that the animosity is quite old-fashioned.
That's simply not true, I'm afraid. Anglo-Irish and Scoto-Irish links are very strong, considering the incredibly high levels of migration between the three countries. They were upset because he was singing a raucous rock song in bar with an older clientele.
You are partially correct ,but I am still correct. I mentioned the British because The Kinks are a British band and singers of said song. The Irish and British have a long history of animosity towards one another(regardless of migration)was the point I was making. He was singing a British song in an Irish setting which was partially responsible for the uproar. I'm still correct.
No, I'm sorry, but I'm correct, Trust me, since I'm Scottish, I have Irish friends & have visited Ireland many times. No 'animosity' exists between the British and Irish. I go to Glasgow University where classes are run specifically on the literary, musical and religious links between our countries. Aside from anything else, after Runt is glassed, the barman even says to her that the bar is 'too old' for them. That is the reason for the uproar, not a non-existent national friction,
I never said you were wrong,I only said there was animosity with the British and Irish in the past. Specifically when the British invaded Irish territory and took over .I am fully aware of the links between the cultures(I never denied it).Trust me, I have many Irish friends who rant about how the British oppressed their people in the past.History books will tell you the same.
But you're talking about sheer anachronisms. Does the world still harbour animosity towards Germany? Certainly not. The 'troubles' between Ireland and mainland Britain ended a very long time ago and no longer play a part in our cultural relationship. As a Brit, surely I would know?!

y does everyone have a problem with him singing this song?
oxXjenniferXxo 3 years ago 3
This is one reason why they were upset with him for singing that song.
well, part of the reason is because they are Irish and he was singing a British song. The Irish and British are not the best of friends.
