I have never bought a mac product in my life and i have never owned anything. mac prices are f*ing rediculous. I would never pay that much for mac when you could pay 25% of that price on better quality brushes!!! I live right near michaels. once i save up some money im going and getting some brushes. :) thanks for the video!!!
I spend a lot of money on makeup and makeup tools, I like quality products and exclusive stuff, and I would never, never buy MAC tools, ever. I don't like the way the brand is being managed and the way lots of makeup artists believe, truly believe that MAC gives them some kind of professional look. It's like MAC washes those artists brains, I don't feel like their products are specially good, they make regular makeup and regular tools and sell those as THE right thing to buy. Shame.
I wish I would have known about these brushes earlier. I have 6 MAC brushes already. I also LOVE Sonya Kashuk brushes from Target. They are great brushes at awesome prices!!! I also buy these Loew- Cornell from our local Michael's craft store.
i have to say i get the whole name brand thing. its nicer to have nicer things. but i LOVE ecotools. the best brushes ever. u can get them at lots of drugstores and there eco-friendly! i can have nice makeup brushes and more money in my pocket!
my mom thinks that u cant use paint brushes 4 makeup!!!! she said i'd be "punished" if i used my new paintbrushes!!! and also if u use paint on the brush can u still use it 4 makeup??????? of course wash it 1st! im gonna show my mom this vid 2 prove her that i can use them 4 makeup!!!!!!!! even on the brushes they say "shader" which is obviously 4 makeup
@ForeverPink67 .....you mom is ignorant. she doesn't understand that Make up Brushes ARE Paint Brushes. Make up IS a form of paint.. that is formulated for our delicate faces.
"Paint Brush" is just a word. Painters use a paper canvas, Make Up artists use faces/body which IS our canvas. Open your mind.
I think its great you can find mac brush dupes from paint brushes, but for me as im training to work in makeup as a career... Yeah.. a client would be kinda puzzled if i pulled out a bunch of paint brushes instead of trusty mac (; lol x
Would u list all the brushes in sidebar Please? & do a video using nothing but art brushes( non dept cosmetic brushes?) Notone person who did a video pike this has.Even better a a full makeup from primer, concealer, foundtn, eyes, lips, cheeks glam or everyday lookt tutorial using nothing but art/craft brushes.Or And! do one side w/ "art"brushes/ the other mac " makeup"brushes on the other side!er
i do not own one single make up brush besides my saphora stippling brush...but i use paint brushes...i dont like the tapered handles of the paint brush so i made some "MAC" brush handles and took the original handles out and put the "MAC" ones in...they look really similar to MAC brushes lol
@realfam1969 you have to buy wooden dowels from your local craft or hardware store that are the same size as the end of the ferrule and then use sand paper on the ends to round them out like the MAC brushes and then paint them black then use super glue on the end that goes to the ferrule then insert and let dry , hope that helps
i personally don't have any full size mac brushes, but the reason why people pay so much money for mac brushes is because apparently they really last for a long time and are hand made. but will these brushes last just as long as mac's?
Thank you for such a nice review. I honestly did not feel like speniding MAC$ for brushes that I can get cheaper and softer than MAC. I am actually into quality at a fair price.
I can get 10brushes for $20 and they are the same and on a website I don't know it by mind but ya. What I'm going to do when I get my brushes I'm probably going to make them all black to look like MAC brushes and write MAC and then number lol jp I'll try though haha if I suceed so like when my friends come over they'll be like o my gosh you have like every MAC brush! How!!!??
For all the people saying that these brushes cant be used on the face and blah blah blah...what do you think face paitners use??? do you think a face painter at a kid's party is going to use a brush that use to paint the walls of your damn house??? OBVIOUSLY some brushes in ART are used for the face. if you want to spend $30 on 1 brush go ahead.
Loew Cornell I bought a pack and it had a blending brush a sponge brush a liner brush a mop brush and many more there are a few i didnt need but hey for 5 bucks i got what i dd need lol
FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW: The MAC holiday sets are not handmade like there full sized counterparts, are more often synthetic NOT real hair and untimatley don't last as long so they may not be worth the deal you get. i think i'm gonna go to Michaels and get some of those brushes. :) I dont like the handles but I'll probably just end up spraypainting them pink or something and then glazing it. I dont know I'll have to figure that part out cause I dont like ugly looking things. but theres no way i'm spending 40 bucks on a mac brush when i can get these!
WHICH Robert Simmons? Is it that blue one? Because a Robert Simmons is historically a hog bristle oil brush with a taupe handle unsuitable for a face. And what bristles are you using? Taklon? Hog? Goat? Squirrel? Camel Hair is an industry catch all for whatever's cheap on the market. If you aren't specific, like some other gurus are, we can't tell what brush you mean. And it's Loew-Cornell watercolor brushes. Not craft, not oil, not tole, watercolor brushes.
@KatrinaMess Actually, if you went to Loew-Cornell's site, you would have known that they make brushes for ALL ART MEDIAS. You can also use them on your face. I do it all the time.
If you were up on make up brushes you'd know that MAC's early ground breakers were all short handled water color brushes under the LC imprint "Maxine's Mop". Several of the brushes MAC introduced are in fact straight copies, probably produced by Loew Cornell for MAC. Craft brushes are ten cent cheap, poor handling, and abrasive. I'm an assistant professor at a pretty decent art school. I think I know my way around a brush, including Da Vinci Cosmetic Sable and Shu Uemaras...
No,no filberts unless you want war paint. Watercolor mops diffuse the color. What you want this year is a cosmetic contour brush and a fan to put a controlled pop of pale pink (for your skin tone) on the cheekbone. That's why I have tenure at a well known old Painting School and my make up always looks good.
Nope, actually, filberts are definitely pretty good! I'm a painter, so I definitely know quite a thing or two about brushes, and my makeup looks pretty good too!
but i still havent pushed myself to by name brand brushes, its pretty rediculous to me. but the eyeshadows and things, like the cute collection packaging, you bet ill buy it (: haha.
but yeahh, i really do love the loew cornell brushes and i plan to buy some more, i only have like 2. and im going to buy a brush kit when the holiday collections come out, i like those actually better (:
I still can't jump on the overpriced MAC ban wagon! Why pay 40-50 bucks for a brush thats made in the same place as the cheap art brushes and work exactly the same. Most MAC lovers spend money on a name! I prefer quality and dnt care where I find it! Juat my .02
I went to purchase a couple of Loew Cornells brushes and it's awesome! Costed $5.00 for 3 brushes, which was the powder brush, blush brush and a smaller brush for contouring! VERRY SOFT!
thanks for the vid.. but i think you should pass on putting eyeliner on the bottom of your eyes... kinda looks scary :( im not saying you yourself look scary... its just the eyeliner doing that, dont take offence, just a tip :)
im sooo glad i found this vid cuz man am i broke~ so i will diff. buy those loew cornel brushes!!!!!!!! Thankyou Thankyou sooo sooo much! you have no idea how much money you saved me!

I will cosign on this one I bought the MAC holiday 08 collection and they really suck. I was disappointed to say the least. I have the 208 original black one angled I use for my brows and I love it. Have had it for 4years and I wanted to try the rest but didnt want to buy them individually. I saw Enkore's vid and went to Micheal's and purchased the L/C and I love them to death; they are so soft and in my opinion are better. Now I know Im going to upset some ppl with that comment but truth hurts!
Reply to Jeanbean921: No, technically these brushes are used for painting, and Michaels sells them that way. But the Loew Cornell brushes are very soft and can be used for make-up application. So if you go to Michaels, just go to the paints section and you will find them there. I recently bought the 3/8" "Maxine Mop" by Loew Cornell and it is exactly like the Mac 239. I love it! Hope that helps! :)
I went to 4 different craft stores today and wasn't able to find anything that would work - and each store had Loew Cornell. Looks like I need to order online! Can you list any specific names of the brushes you purchased?
Thank you ! This clarifies whether the paint brushes actually work for makeup. I always thought they wouldn't hold as much product or spread makeup the same way, but now I know that it depends on the type of hair it's made from. About a year ago or so I noticed that CVS has a line of brushes, synthethic I believe, but honestly they're soft and offer the same results!
I know I just bought the creas brushes @ CVS it was a pack of 2 and, I bought a combo brush with a creas brush on 1 end and a thicked wider brush at the other. They are a really good too both were under $7 each.
no nooo the mac holiday are NOT worth it. they shed even just after i took the 187 outa the box and its sooo not a 187, its more a mini 188. dont get mac holiday brushes, so not worth it (oh and they have "china" written really lightly on the back of the brush handles in the holiday set) hhmmmmmmmm
thats because all the holiday collections are mass produced in china, unlike the regular edition which are handmade NOT in china. thats why they so much less. i dont think they are worth it. :(
why the obsession with namebrands? you just made yourself look so ignorant what a shame... i dont think it makes a diference i just think ur makeup still doesnt look good no matter what kind of brush you use
i have to agree... some of my brushes as Mark, a soin off of avon and i pay $5.00 and get the same result!! so i have to agree more expensive is not always better, just the brand you pay for sometimes! thanx for
I thought for sure you were going to say Loew-Cornell was horrible but was SOOO happy that you were totally honest and say I'm willing to pay 50bucks for MAC but L-C is just as good. Thank you for such an informative video =D Now I will be subscribing.
I bought some of these yesterday. I must be allergic to goat hair or something! I sneeze and water up like crazy after using them! I'm glad I discovered this before spending the money on MAC brushes.
great video... :) by d way, can u pls send me all the details lyk model name & item nmber of each loew cornell and the other brand dat ur toking about it sounds lyk robert sumting lyk dat so dat its easier for me to search for it hir in our place... im jst a beginner so i dnt hve much idea about the mke up brushes dt ur toking about... hope you could help me.. please!!!!! tnkyu soooo muchhh... mwwaaahhhh
Just to let everyone know...I went to the walmart makeup section and got Essential Tools makeup brushes. Item# 41029 is an Eye Shading brush on one end and applicator brush on the other end for 1.97. Item# 41024 is a retractable powder brush made for purse design for 3.76. And item# 41037 is a pack of 12 applicator brushes for 1.27. I'm new to makeup but I think these will do the job just fine especially for beginners.
The 219 was designed to be a stiff brush because it's suppose to give an indepth application for a crease and the other brush does not compare at all because it lacks width and texture so it would be like using a 213 brush. Study your brushes!
I just purchased me first loew cornell xxl round mop and royal soft grip 1 inch and I love both they're very soft! they came up to about 12 dollars and some change!I went to target they were even more expensive then this art brushes!
you crack me up "if your like me and obsessed with the MAC brand" haha. This is great info for those wanting great quality brushes without the high cost. Great Job!

I went to 4 different craft stores today and wasn't able to find anything that would work - and each store had Loew Cornell. Looks like I need to order online! Can you list any specific names of the brushes you purchased?
tylarea 3 years ago 2
A really good one is called the Maxine's Mop Brush. Just bought a couple the other day. kuuipo1207 uses them alot.

Forget MAC and their overpriced brushes! I bought a 224 from them and after cleaning it, I noticed it didn't hold it's shape and got fluffier
alluring1one 3 years ago 7
Thank you ! This clarifies whether the paint brushes actually work for makeup. I always thought they wouldn't hold as much product or spread makeup the same way, but now I know that it depends on the type of hair it's made from. About a year ago or so I noticed that CVS has a line of brushes, synthethic I believe, but honestly they're soft and offer the same results!
alluring1one 3 years ago 2
I know I just bought the creas brushes @ CVS it was a pack of 2 and, I bought a combo brush with a creas brush on 1 end and a thicked wider brush at the other. They are a really good too both were under $7 each.

I thought Loew Cornells were paint brushes.

no nooo the mac holiday are NOT worth it. they shed even just after i took the 187 outa the box and its sooo not a 187, its more a mini 188. dont get mac holiday brushes, so not worth it (oh and they have "china" written really lightly on the back of the brush handles in the holiday set) hhmmmmmmmm
susannal1 3 years ago
thats because all the holiday collections are mass produced in china, unlike the regular edition which are handmade NOT in china. thats why they so much less. i dont think they are worth it. :(

i bought the face brush holiday set and i think it is very worth it the brushes worked well for me...
FUNKYMACGIRL 3 years ago
why the obsession with namebrands? you just made yourself look so ignorant what a shame... i dont think it makes a diference i just think ur makeup still doesnt look good no matter what kind of brush you use
ItzMeErica 3 years ago
i have to agree... some of my brushes as Mark, a soin off of avon and i pay $5.00 and get the same result!! so i have to agree more expensive is not always better, just the brand you pay for sometimes! thanx for
your honest review!
anjelikapickles 3 years ago 4
Yeah! the bad thing is that the 187 sucks bad!! Big dissapoinment!

ValleyGurlFrmHell 3 years ago

I thought for sure you were going to say Loew-Cornell was horrible but was SOOO happy that you were totally honest and say I'm willing to pay 50bucks for MAC but L-C is just as good. Thank you for such an informative video =D Now I will be subscribing.

I bought some of these yesterday. I must be allergic to goat hair or something! I sneeze and water up like crazy after using them! I'm glad I discovered this before spending the money on MAC brushes.

Study your brushes!
mstracy07 3 years ago
It's not exact, but it gets the job done. thank u for watching! :D
pinkmacprincess 3 years ago
some people don't like to jam the 219's pokey bristles into their crease. most people on youtube just use it for their lower lash lines.
bottledxxbohemia 3 years ago 2
since somebody brought it up .. i think you do have a slight western accent - are you from Texas?
