Pentax K-5 is a great camera. Unfortunately, it is ridiculously overpriced. The price should be what the K-7 was. Now it is off the table as my k-x upgrade. Too bad Pentax.
I showered K20D + DA18-55WR few times, but I noticed mysty foggy droplets inside lens. So I DO NOT recommend doing that for fun and I DO recommend to put camera with lens into dry-box after. Seriously.
All the time I take a shower with my Lumix G2 I think "If I only had a Pentax!" Love this vid, love the idea behind it... I promise: Next year I will buy a Pentax. (Anybody looking for a Panny G2 , second hand!?)
LOL, you are trying to compare a 400d with Pentax K7? Even the cheap K-r or the older K-x are better than the latest and more expensive Canon Rebel or Nikon entry-level nonsense.
I think you don't know what you are talking about. K7 also costs under $1000. I have watched the video which is very clear but your message was not clear.
What are you saying? 400d is built like a tank? Canon Rebels are the most plasticky cameras you can find. Sony SLRs are much better build-wise and specs-wise. Sony (Konica-Minolta), Pentax, Olympus provide better features than Canikon for less money.
pentax makes great sensors but not that great of glass and the glass is the most important, you can have a great sensor and a bad lens and the photos wont be very good, nikon makes great sensors and amazing lenses.
@ashtonwentworth1 Wrong. The K-7 image sensor was made in Samsung like the Pentax K20D. Pentax K-5 and K-x(r) sensors are also made in Sony, like older ones K100D and K10D and of course, all Nikon dslr's image sensors.
Pentax did not build quality lenses ? I think you have no idea of what you are talking about...
Luminous landscape isn't a pro Pentax site. But they say than FA 31 F1.8 is one of the greatest lens ever made, and they are many more awesome quality lens made by Pentax.
and Pentax / Nikon didn't build the sensor, Sony did... in fact they use the same sensors...
This is an amazing DLSR that captures stunningly exquisite images. My upgrade will be the K5 , hands down. As you can see, I'm hooked on Pentax. Has nothing to do with this video. I bought it, I use it, I've been stunned by its image quality, awed by its ability to handle adverse weather conditions, extremely pleased by it's high quality build and blown away by Pentax DA star line of lenses.
I shoot with a Pentax K7, It's easily the best DSLR out there in its price range.
I've captured stunning images with this camera. Nikon and Canon can take a hike.
The Pentax glass is nothing short of , amazing. This video is no joke. The K7 is built like a tank and yes I've been rained on and I'm talking torrential down-pour here. Once you get used to the feel of the K7, every other DSLR in its category feels cheap. It has an elegant, high quality feel.
I agree, it's not a valid test of weather-proofness. Sometimes it just starts pouring down and you want to know that it's safe to keep shooting for a few more minutes, not just 5 seconds :)
LOL... US Marine style... just not kidding around.... a 2000$ DSLR under a shower head... what proof than waterproof is needed... ha ha ha... next time put in on a bath and let it float... than you can be sure if it still works that I'll buy a K7....
I shoot Nikon but great job by Pentax of making one of the most affordable weather sealed cameras. Thanks for demonstrating. My question to all manufacturers has always been how much weather abuse can these cameras take? If a mfr made a demo like this, it would help sell their cameras.
You are a brave man.. Or just paid by Pentax. I'm not convinced that camera did work after letting the water soak in for a few minutes. And what happens to the lens after a few days, having been drowned like that?
@jonnebanan Better believe it. I have the K200d which is less than the K7 (but still has the weather sealing) and I've shot in the rain and snow. Never had a problem. You do need to use the weather-sealed lenses though.
@Aragiss The reason is simple. Olympus, Pentax and Minolta have great products. No need to go for an overrated and overpriced Canon, or Nikon. And why make a huge and rich corporation such as Canon or Nikon even bigger and richer that it already is? Olympus and Pentax are like boutique companies in comparison. It's even surprising they have any presence at all in the market with such a miniscule number of employees. Nonetheless, I like Canon printers, but I wouldn't buy a Canon camera.
@dvamateur you're grammar is stupid and i bet those 32 people who voted you up aren't even sure what you meant. Delete your stupid comment and get the punctuation and grammar right. Did you mean
@ShazamVanBane I meant that I wouldn't spend my money on a Canon or Nikon products. These are large corporations that are very rich. Why me, a poor individual, why should I give my hard earned money to big corporations? I'd rather go for more boutique brands, such as Pentax, Olympus, or Leica. Excuse my grammar, but English is not my first language, what can I do?
@dvamateur Okay sorry u can use translate.google. c o m, but anyways, what matters is getting the best camera at the best price, not if a corporation is big or not, that's silly. If one corp was evil but small and the bigger one good, would you give your money to the evil one just because it was smaller?! Sometimes companies should fail.
@kyleain By default all business is evil because they exploit the consumer. Nonetheless, I'd very much like to see having more companies around than less. Look at the computer market. You're either stuck with Windows or Mac for consumer and even pro applications. I very much miss Atari ST platform, for instance. I don't want the same thing be happening to the photographic gear. If Pentax and Olympus disappear, it will be a sad thing, 'cause these two companies have great legacy.
@dvamateur There is no evidence that the definition of business is "something that is evil that exploits customers" wow are you one of those Occupy Retail Stores people? A communist? You're making statements based on assumptions. That's mistake number one. You're also thinking in one direction. Since when do "customers" not have the power to "exploit" a business? You really never heard of Chinese workers being used as virtual slaves? Do you want complete slaves for you? Look up the word exploit.
@kyleain Okay, maybe I have hard feelings because I have always been exploited and ripped off. But that's personal thing. You said yourself that Chinese are being exploited. Sure they are. It takes a few bucks to make an iPhone, but then Apple charges arm and a leg for it. So, who is exploited? Apple? I think not. I think the Chinese workers and American customers are being exploited by Apple. Would I buy and Apple product after they went Made in China? No.
Yup! I doubt most people even take this gear out in conditions like this. I'm not saying people don't, because I have seen people do it... but your average person is either going to baby it, or treat it like shit.
that was poor :)
