Good points raised and overall a generally sound guide (though a wee bit bias) to anyone who's shopping for a personal trainer or fitness coach out there.
in addition Josh mentioned basic qualifications gained from institutes like NASM etc. In the UK people the equivalent qualifications to NASM etc are basic courses like Premier, YMCA, Future Fit etc. As Josh suggests these institutes give trainers a good foundation but not an advanced certification at all!
Great post Josh. I just wanted to add to your post. As a Chek Practitioner and Poliquin Bio-Sig certified trainer I completely agree with everything you say. One other institute that I highly recommend people look for in the US is the Gray Institute and in the UK Faster Health and Fitness. I have spent a year with Gary Gray and the Gray Institute and also teach for Faster Health and Fitness and they really complement the Chek and Poliquin stuff.
My certification is from NPTI (National Personal Training Institute). This was a 6 month long program, 9:30 - 4:00 Mon - Thur. $6000.00. Fantastic Program. Trained by several different established trainors and the class was inside of World Gym. We got practical learning every day. Wonderfull program, and the certification is actually a diploma and doesn't need to be renewed.
Good advice. I agree, its important with the application of knowledge as there are too many 'cookie cutters' out there. It's good to think and look at the person. I also alway gauge my sucess not only on results but also on the smile on my clients face. Exercise and training should be a positive and enriching experience.
yes your right let get thing better in usa and the uk we have exercise professionals, in the uk and that not good at all i found the chek the best and totally agree
