Dude this is like watching a video of my hands :s i have been told to just use fingers over that specifically what you are doing whats your take on that coz its 100% exactly the same as that
Thanks for your comment. I don't think you can "just use your fingers" specifically, because they are connected to your hand, wrist, forearm, etc. One thing I have noticed about the drumming greats, is you can see motion thoughout their entire arms, even when it appears they are only using their fingers. I would say if your hands look like mine, then you already have good technique...and you are taking good advantage of using the power of the entire arm, as I do.
Ahh sweet thanks for the reply :) yep thats how my hands look. I do spend lots of time on my hands but iv been told from loads of people err just use fingers and all that but if this can reach those speeds i wont have to adjust my technique :)
Thanks for your interest! I am going to be uploading a new video in about a month or so that will be 18 minutes long and will explain my technique in detail. Please subscribe to my channel, and then you will be notified when it is available. It will be called "Lever Stroke Lesson 1".
I think you are right, but the point of the video is the whole arm needs to move as a unit in order to play with speed. With really fast drummers the same motion is happening, but it gets to the point where it is barely noticeable and very refined. It is not possible to play relaxed and with speed if you are keeping your wrists immobilized. Thanks you for your comment.
I think there's nothing wrong with the wrist movement in this video. It's not done parallel to the ground (or vertically when using the french grip). >.>
Thanks for your comment/compliment. I checked that guy out. Those are some very fast beats!! Not exactly what I would want to listen to all day, but it is amazing somebody can do that.
Hey Tim: Thanks for your comment. I got the phrase "kinetic chain" from the American Sports Medicine Institute. It describes the transfer of energy from a baseball pitcher's legs to his trunk, to his arm. I believe great drummers use a similar kinetic chain, but it begins in the upper arm, not the lower body of course. However, when using the fingers to start the motion of the stick, the energy transfer is reversed--it travels from the hand into the upper arm. Hence the "reverse kinetic chain".

I can see that you have a good technique, but I don't know what it...is. Could you explain your grip and motion for me? Thanks.

you will get less sound if you fingerstroke.and louder what you are doing. I think this way of doing it is more appliable in a whole drumming play.

ur wrists shouldn't move while doing that...

This is the same technique Shannon Lucas uses when he does blast beats. Exactly the same.
