I read a piece one time that said when Pav spread his arms at the end of a performance that it was like he was embracing the audience.

for me is obviously that luciano embraced all of the audience that loved him [and stil love him], so much. because he was a very warm man. besides that, italian people, they are very warm and like to show there affection. and after he ended to sing and the audience claps for him with love and with a lot of intensity so he spread his arms to say "i love all of you too". and i love him too.

Ah, that trademark effortless B-flat that just pours out of him. I am grateful for his recorded legacy, definitive for Cavaradossi, Chenier, Nemorino & Rodolfo. I hope when people think of beautiful opera singing in general, this is the voice they hear in their minds. Bravo Maestro, grazie.
