Moreover, just about every economy in the face of the earth the gave preference to labor over capital has fallen by the wayside where as those which have given capital its due has prospered. People struggled to make capitalism more human, e.g. Phillipines, Haiti, Africa, Native America, Dominican Republic and numerous other Third World areas that were maldeveloped by unrestrained capitalism. @captwasabi If U.S. kept labor stats like other industrialized countries, 5-6% figure would be significantly higher. Add people in the military, prison industrial complex, those disabled by dangerous occupations, and discouraged workers, and the figure would be higher. Depression era figures of 35% is an e.g. of what happens when capital rules with no regulation or controls. Furthermore, capital runs to the nanny state and benefits from its protections as a norm. Nazi Germany is your model.

@captwasabi With all due respect, you are reaching. You know nothing about me or how I make a living. Most small businesses begin with the capital people save and accumulate from hard work. Some borrow and repay the SBA for modest loans. They work hard and realize the fruit of their labor, and employ others in the process, often honestly and fairly. I don't hate anyone, but I don't like injustice and exploitation. You don't have to be a commie to think like that. I work hard, and I love my work.

The U.S. was on the cusp of industrializing in the Mid 19th century, with the foundation provided by the wealth produced by slavery. Ever hear of the Triangle Slave Trade.
