Great pics. Thanks for sharing.I also went to the RFH gig.I was up in the balcony so even though I could see,you couldn't really see their faces.I only know their early tracks (1979-1983) so most of the performance I was having a hard time trying to get into it.But it was still amazing to see YMO live. And where I was the bass was very loud.A shame as it drowned out a lot of the intricate melodys.
As soon as they finished the main set a lot of people got up and left missing the encores.
Many thanks. The original pics are like 4000x2256, so you can imagine how nice they look. I remember seeing a flash go off several times in the balcony to the left of the stage. Highly recommend this little camera (kodak v1253) as it is 12mp (4:3 only) and 9mp in widescreen. Video is HD. Amazing for less than £150 :D (though i got mine from the states this year for £125)
Yeh, the bass was too much really. 'Pivot' really did give you a taste of things to come and i was praying Y.M.O wouldn't sound as harsh. I heard from my friend that y.m.o had been reheasing for about a week before the event. How can you NOT notice something as bad as that :/
I see you like tangerine dream. My faves are exit and white eagle. Great albums! bring back memories of late nights doing animations on my amiga 500, back in the early 90's ;?>
I saw Kraftwerk when they played as part of the Ether Festival at the RFH before the refit.Even though it was just as loud and lots of bass it was a clean sound, not as muddy as Sunday night.Pivot were mad.Interesting style though.
I saw kraftwerk in sheffield (93 i think) when 'The Mix' came out. Yeh pivot were definitely interesting. Not something i could get into but it was an experience.
It was almost similar to there hasymo gigs. Almost the same material. Few new songs which were terrific. Soundwise there was a few problems. The usual feedback and (in my view and many others posting here) very loud too. The bass was like being hit in the chest with a brick. At one point i saw Christian Fennesz give the 'thumbs down' to the sound engineer. So clearly there was bad stuff going on behind the scenes.
Thanks for the review. No vids on Youtube, no feedback anywhere else!
BTW, is it true that this is a 2-gigs only reunion? No chances for other dates? Damn, I've been waiting for ages to see this came true and now it became so, I cannot attend. :(
I don't know of any other dates sorry. A german guy from berlin met up with us and wanted to try and get hosono to do some gigs in berlin next year. From what i heard, it looked promising. I think i might go there if it happens. Never been to deutcheland, so would be an experience in itself if the gig went ahead.
superb.must of been brilliant to meet 3 of the most talented japanese artists, ive met sakamoto briefly and was in awe of the man.thanks for the post.

Wow, that's too cool! I wish I was there. By the way, how did you talk to them? Did you know Japanese or did they know English?
singinglawnchair 3 years ago
They talk english (hosono less so really). Although i told hosono i loved his naga album and he didn't need a translator for that.
