  • for sale: 6 tickets to MORRISSEY live@ Royal Albert Hall, London, 27 oct 2009, standing

  • Why the fuck did I just have to sit through a Mcdonald's commercial prior to the video? Something tells me Moz would be rather upset at that coupling.

  • Morrissey is GOD

  • Love the newest album. Still listening to it heavy-rotation style. He's been having a midlife crisis for 25 years and it's been so damn catchy. Love the Moz!

  • i dont think he's sayin "Oh look at me and how much my fans love me!" but rather then how he grows old yet his fans keep lovin him and no matter how time passed by we still love him. thats juss wat i think

  • video sucks though..."Oh look at me and how much my fans love me!" The video kind of clashes with the whole message of the song!

  • awesome song and the words are so true!

  • The words are all true !!!

  • Morrissey..."this charming man" ...

  • Morrissey The Best!!!

  • Morrissey, I love you

  • He's my sweetie

  • what a hero.......

  • "As for me im ok , for now anywayyyyy..."

  • Immense track.

Musically, lyrically and the vocal melody.

  • ur a dik who doesnt have a clue

  • The MOZ is the Greatest Artist Ever to live. Damn I'm so in LOVE w/the man. Oye ESTEBAN!!!!

  • He's fuckin Great.

  • LOL

    Love ya Moz.

  • Ma che belli sono i musicisti vestiti così?!!!!

  • the over obsessed morrissey fans make me laugh so much

  • yes but i don't think i would feel any better for harrassing morrissey

  • beautiful melody on the chorus but the lyrics are so... simple... Really disappointing

  • Muito bom d+

  • Great new song!!!

  • Morrissey non si può non amarti...sei un mito,ma su serio.

  • You should make a video and prove something.

  • Laughing out fucking loud.

  • in all fairness the video is a bit trump

  • I have seen the future....

Morrissey retires, after having BOTH of his hips broken somewhere around the 1,000,000th stage invasion. (fortunately it won't happen til 2020 or so...

  • É extremamente agradável ouvir o Morrissey cantar.

  • Semplicemente un poeta...

  • What a pimp morrissey is!

  • only the best

  • I read somewhere (m-solo??) that this was going to be a full fledged MV with an actor and a plot, and not just concert footage. Guess I was wrong...?

  • I don't understand how anyone could possibly watch, and listen to, this rather turgid nonsense, and argue that 'Mozza' is no longer 'self-absorbed'.

Also, it's so lacking in any kind of poetry 'as for me, I'm OK, for now anyway!', for Heavens sake (!?!?!?), it makes Britney Spears's 'Baby hit me one more time' sound positively Shakespearean!

  • Well, i must agree with u about lyrics... but i like the song ... anyway.

  • Cool

  • I read somewhere (m-solo??) that this was going to be a full fledged MV with an actor and a plot, and not just concert footage. Guess I was wrong...?

  • Hmmm...There is such a thing as taste, you know!

  • 'The more you ignore me, the closer I get...You're wasting your time!'

    -Mid 1990s solo Morrissey song.

    Good night!

  • wow luzhizui

never seen so many hate posts by one person. Must have some serious hate for this Morissey dude. I don`t know him or anything, so i don`t really care either way, but i think you can back down. You`ve made your point

  • Cheers!

  • And I'm sure you are tired of all this. Why not more comments along the lines of 'Morrissey is God. I want him to have my children' etc, but I'm afraid to tell you that......

  • Anyone who says they 'connect' with this piece of self-indulgent.....Well, I really wonder!

  • That's funny (?!). For anyone still reading (and even more for anyone still 'not')Morrissey was once a very 'interesting drug' see any 'still with the Smiths' interviews on you-tube, who could write songs people could connect with. That is one of the essential arts of songwriting - believe me!

  • Well... The way I interpret it, this song is written as a sort of critique of his past self, the entire point being that he's reflecting on certain aspects of his character from 'back in the day' and realizing that he was a bit of a toss.

Now, whether or not his music was better when he was a toss remains up for debate.

  • He is certainly criticising the Morrissey that initially made his 'name' and made him something special, which seems abit sad and daft to me.

Check out some of his early interviews on you-tube when he was indeed, to some extent 'this charming man'. Too me he seems a shadow of this these days, but, as 'tinrac' has pointed out, hopefully I've made my point/s!

  • Perhaps that 'initial' Morrissey warrants some criticism. He was clearly an unhappy lad, and I think Moz is now realizing that he was to blame for much of his past misery. He seems now to be saying that he has changed and learned to be somewhat the instrument of his own happiness.

And seeing as he's now 48, I'm sure we can grant him some license to indulge in a little happiness, or at least mild contentment.

  • the line about the spine and the sweetie

    funny stuffs

  • Isn't Moz just deliciously lovely...

  • Dunno. Is he?

All of you seem to have missed the fact that this song is such alot of UTTER DRIVEL!

  • I agree this song isnt' the best he's put out but he's still very handsome...=D

  • He's utterly gorgeous. 100% Agreed.

  • OK, by all means, he's 'gorgeous' if you must, but that's hardly a critical judgement, is it?

Do you know what's wrong with you 'younger people'? You are too easy on yourselves!?!??!

  • Why must we be so critical? Must EVERYTHING be an exercise in profundity? I think not.

    Vive la bagatelle!

  • I think we should be critical for many reasons. I agree with 'Mozza' that pop music should be taken seriously and not viewed as 'bubble-gum' for the senses.

I was 'wasting my time, always thinking about myself!'

That's what made people like Morrissey.

Morrissey would have no more made it without the Smiths than Paul McCartney would have made it without the Beatles.

To criticise what made you 'big' is at best, silly!, I would say.

  • With the way life is, sometimes your senses need metaphorical bubble-gum. So I guess I disagree with Morrissey in that respect.

As for the 'wasting my time' line... I don't think Morrissey is intending to mock his fans from the Smiths days. He has stated in past interviews that he sees introspective character as a sign of intelligence, however I think he's just making the point that it is possible to be too introspective, when all you see is yourself...then you just end up being self-absorbed.

  • Good music is about expressing universal feelings and emotions, I think most people agree. This, on the other hand, is purely about Mozza' life and how WE should feel about it, there's nothing universal about it, I would suggest.

To be frank, why should we give an xxxx about Mozza's life? (nothing personal)

I'm sure you can see what I mean.

That said, if you really get s'thing out of this, then good luck to you, and I don't mean that in a nasty way.

  • And, yes, I do have abit of a 'hidden agenda'.

I reckon that Mozza' admittedly, to some extent, endearing and 'charismatic' personality has made him abit of an ambassador for English 'alternative' music, which often doesn't make it 'over the channel'.

Can I suggest Paul Weller 'while still in The Jam'; abit more 'common', but in my view a far superior 'social commentator'.

Btw, grleastlikelyto, I noticed that you have 'stand and deliver' as one of.....

  • No, I'm afraid you cannot suggest Paul Weller/The Jam seeing as I'm already a Jam fan... have been for some time now in fact.

As far as social commentators go though, I'm even more fond of Ray Davies/The Kinks, whose songs in my opinion have a bit more subtlety to them.

  • (cont'd) your favourite vids. Good choice!

  • It's the 'English gentleman' thing. Abit of style and panashe (spelling?).

But, 'yes there are things worse in life than never being someone sweety'!

That is one of many lines in this song which REALLY annoys me.

Morrissey originally 'spoke for' depressed etc people (apparently no-one else did!), hence popularity.

Mozza would really benefit from not being surrounded by 'yes-men' and being put back into the position of 'outsider' which made him initially quite interesting.

  • the line is...Yes there are things worse in life than never being some ______"one's"____ sweetie...Big dif hey sweetie?

  • You mean ones not quite so (sorry dreadful play on words!) up their arse?

  • Love the video. Typical of Morrissey concerts, fans jumping on stage and Morrissey being decent enough to accept thier love. Most bands would have there fans asses kicked off stage for interupting the concert.

  • In other words, don't throw stones......!

  • Someone who writes songs like 'National Front Disco''Bengali in Platforms' 'Meat is Murder', 'November spawned a monster' should expect to be criticised (constructively as well as otherwise.

'Mozza' has always gone out his way to be controversial and wind people up. One would have therefore thought that his fans would welcome abit of a 'debate'! Oh well!

  • As I have previously stated. Morrissey is a multifaceted individual. He writes these incredibly controversial songs and then bellyaches when there is some backlash.

He also worships a man who died from reckless driving, then whines about getting fined for speeding. Ah, C'est le Morrissey.

  • James Dean was actually not driving poorly when killed. he was only doing about 5 miles over the speed limit. it was the other cars fault that james dean was killed :). this is true, they re opened the case etc and figured out what actually happened the day james dean died. peace.

  • I stand corrected :)

I wasn't trying to slag James Dean or anything.

  • i know :) haha its alright, you seem cool. haha as long as your a Morrissey fan. i didn't mean to ruin James Dean's reputation as a bad ass haha. basically he has recieved a ticket earlier in the day for speeding so he slowed down, funny thing is that if he was speeding at the time of the accident he probably wouldn't have even been hit by the other car.

  • I'm sorry, I REALLY don't get this one. So James Dean was NOT responsible for his death even though he was driving over the speed limit.

Speed limits are set for a very good reason, believe it or not. People are no.1 responsible for their actions, as 'GrlLeastLikelyTo' has suggested, in the same way that 'Mozza' is responsible for the way that 'racists' will interpret his words!

  • I'm sorry, I REALLY don't get this one. So James Dean was NOT responsible for his death even though he was driving over the speed limit.

  • he was doing 5 over the speed limit another car came into his lane and hit the drivers side of his porshe. if you know anything about cars, James was driving a porshe and was hit by a ford. the ford would have been MUCH bigger so it totaled his porsche annd killed him. check the facts.

  • That would be a fair defence of Jon Bon Jovi, perhaps, but Morrissey has NEVER stood for a 'just play music' ethos. Check any of his interviews on you-tube.

  • Dude, shut up! We don't care about what you have to say about this guy, we are just listening to music, SHUT UP.

  • Just one last thing, before you cry yourselves to sleep (!) - Check out any Morrissey interviews, whilst still with 'The Smiths' on 'you-tube' and you'll find a very interesting, clever, articulate and to some extent, self-deprecating (!) young man (who he now has the nerve to 'disown'!) Mind you, Mick Jagger was 'cool' once, apparently!

  • Give it a rest you dick.

  • People who have pointed out that Morrissey is a 'very successful man', and is hero-worshipped (making him good (!)), I feel, have missed the point somewhat. The 'original' Morrissey 'stood for' individuals and 'losers' (as society views them), to some extent.

He also claimed that he would never become an arrogant, self-congratulatory arsehole.

That's how (some) people grow up unfort. Too much blind adulation goes to the head, perhaps!!!!

  • I think Morrissey has always been an 'arrogant, self-congratulatory arsehole'. At the same time he's quite self-deprecating and he always seems rather uncomfortable in his own skin. For example at concerts, when he whips off his shirt, throws it to a sea of adoring fans, then scuttles self-consciously offstage to reshirt. The paradox is part of his quirky and endearing character.

  • Oh, and just before I go, why on earth would I be 'jealous' of Morrissey. I'm not a pop singer (!). That's like saying I am 'jealous' of David Beckham! (erm..I don't play football!).

  • Morrissey has a right to his views, of course, but why did he apparently 'drop' his more controversial ones when his career/record sales etc are threatened, and why doesn't he explain (or any interviewer have the balls to ask) exactly what he meant by e.g. 'Shelve your Western plans, life is hard enough when you belong here!'(and there are many other examples!). I rest my case, for now!

  • well he was questioned by the FBI.. perhaps thats why he chose to shut up a bit.. you would too

  • When was he questioned by the FBI?! Was it that Airport customs incident a few years ago?

  • i only know that it was about him saying something about George Bush, i'll find you the link if you like

  • Sure, thanks! I love a good bit of Mozzer-driven controversy.

  • And pls don't say they are ironic! They are clearly NOT and anyway, surely (?!) an intelligent 'artist' should take at least a little responsibility for the way his/her words will be construed.

  • Btw. My 'Morrissey is a wanker' comment was abit OTT. Bit too much of 'the sauce', but for anyone who's still interested in a serious discussion on someone who has consistently put himself forward more as an 'intellectual' than a 'pop-star', what annoys me about this chap is that he clearly had very strong anti-immigration views 'shelve your Western plans; life is hard enough when you belong her' see; 'Bengali in platforms' link.....

  • Sorry to spoil the 'party' again guys, but did any of you luzhizui 'haters' get round to (or have the bravery to) check out the 'bengali in platforms...how we booed' link I suggested. Funnily enough, this track was ommitted from the recent 'best of' collection.

It's fine to have idols, as long recoggnise their flaws, if flaws they be, and please beware 'false prophets'!

  • i love this man - and i'm hetero! god (or God) bless you - PLEASE come back to DC soon

  • Love Morrissey's music :D

  • luzhizui

u are so ucking clueless! wow hitler, y are u bringing him up?

off topic buddy, try harder we are talking about morrissey

ok he may be more successful than me, but i dont care because i love him

just get a life and bother other people

and please stop hating on MORRISSEY because he will always, always! be better than you

and i already said what i had to say, just leave and write shitty ass comments on other videos!

    such a dumb ass!

  • Guys, I've just realised; I was wrong all along! Morrissey is, in fact, God; or at the very least, the new messiah!

And I'm just a 'jealous guy', as John Lennon once sang!

  • luzhizui, not entirely sure why you thanked me to be honest. I've read your comments with much interest, and it pains me to say this as it most probably isn't the case, but your comments have a thick smattering of jealousy of Morrissey. Now, I'm sure many people are jealous, or envious, of the status Morrissey has achieved, becomming more than a singer and more of an idol, but you must realise your comments won't change anybody's mind. Still, you've had your 15 minutes of attention, well done.

  • Morrissey it's just like wine, as older as better, and delicious, course!

  • Banal, banal, banal, banal! That's how people stay still and stagnate! There are 'people' who create REAL poetry in Britain, even including modern 'hip-hop' acts like 'the Streets'. I suggest forgetting banal and complacent wanker, lost in the past, 'acts' like Morrissey, losing the blinkers and moving on!

  • But for sure the choice is mine my friend...And its mine since the 80's.After all he was and is an Interesting Drug

  • An interesting (but dangerous!) drug. Anyway, Morrissey is not afraid to speak 2 speak his mind, irrespective of whether his mind is what we might want to hear, which is a rare, but commendable quality in modern 'popular music'! Let the 'debate' continue! No more bland, please!

  • well you dont enjoy the music, you think its crap, that he s overrated, you dont like his 'recommendations'.I can see clearly that you have your own asshole aka opinion for Morrissey. What i cant see clearly is what are you trying to achive.Make us change our minds about him and save the world from the evil racist? No my friend thats not gonna happen'

  • Cool. By all means enjoy Mozza's music, some of which I also like, although I do personally tbink he is very over-rated. That he is/was a 'racist' (in terms that one would normally define as such) is undoubtable. See the 'bengali in platforms, how we booed' link, OR keep your blinkered-eyed, rose-tinted view of Morrissey. The choice is yours!

  • things are as simple as that. If you dont like him dont listen to him.Nobody asked for your opinion, so quit breaking our balls. Please

  • No,one asked for my opinion (!) Well, they didn't as such, but they got it anyway. One thing I do respect about Mozza is that he does give his opinion, and encourages (sort of) others to give theirs. That's how people grow up! He's still an (ex) racist though!

  • Geez just enjoy the music, does it always have to come down to a debate !..and honestly if you can not up with anything better than f**k O** haters...then I would suggest that you stay in school and learn to express yourself in a manner that befits a human, not an animal !

  • Thanks for the most rational comment I've received tonight! You'll note that the comment 'iust fuck off haters' comes from Cranberriesigne, and can I just enjoy the music; no thank you! The music is crap, but more importantly, it comes from someone who is undeservedly revered, and also recommends the repatriation of many British citizens + comes from a time when people didn't just say 'hell! It's just music!' People felt that music meant something then, and it should mean something to you now!

  • just fuck off haters.

  • Like I said, I would have hoped for a more articulate defence than 'just fuck off haters' from 'fans' of apparently the most articulate and literate pop-star around, but I'm starting to think 'I rest my case!'

  • I believe that 'Mozza' argues that he is 'intellectual' as are his 'fans', therefore I would expect those 'fans' to welcome a debate on their 'messiahs' debateable 'talents', and would be able to 'defend him from any jerk' slightly more articulately.

That said, the Smiths made a few good singles. All the melodies/arrangements were written by Johnny Marr, by the way!

  • gees i am reading hater comments!

people stop fucking hating morrissey, if you dont like him just leave no one called you here!!!!!

    such assholes

domt be jealous that he is better than you

and that he is a very successful man, and that he is adored by many people!

    INCLUDING ME!

I LOVE MORRISSEY AND WILL DEFEND HIM FROM ANY JERK THAT HAS ANYTHING BAD TO SAY ABOUT HIM!

get the hell out of here if you dont like him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • By the way, kgis17, please don't feel that Morrissey is more successful than you. He isn't. Btw, Hitler was adored by millions, as you know, so that's not really an argument!

He's just more 'successful' in talking bullshit than you! By the way, this is a free forum, so I'm hoping that you'll be able to defend your arsehole, racist, English nationalist/supremacist hero more robustly in the future!!!

  • Morrissey is vastly overrated, this song is crap and self-indulgent, has no poetry whatsover (like alot of his, especially recent, stuff) + he IS/WAS racist, despite what the apologists say. Please see my comments re 'Bengali in platforms - how we booed'. Sorry to sound like a school-teacher!

  • Great voice, every stage rush was to his side. Never front on. They all took extra effort not to block his stage front view. Were they actors?

Don't watch the video, he has a Great Voice!

  • Morrissey is perfect

    I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee The Smiths *__*

  • Oh and by the way, Britney Spear's lyrics are better!

  • He's like a modern day Jesus...

  • God your an idiot to make such a statement.

  • tongue in cheek

  • not his best by far, but still quite good

  • There is a line in 'The importance of being Morrissey' BBC documentary in which Will Self tries to explain the issue concerning men jumping on stage. He said: "I think it (Moz's music, I guess) speaks to a homosexual component of a lot of heterosexual men". I think he's only half right - it seems to me that these men mainly respond to that often supressed guy's tender side which Morrissey is not embarassed to show...

  • I don't think there's necessarily anything homosexual about a man wanting to hug Morrissey. People feel such a connection with Moz through his music, it would be like hugging a close friend.

  • true!

  • wow

    people really worship this guy

  • morrissey tells the truth, the truth shatters illusions, there are two kinds of people in this world those who can handle the truth and those who cannot. morrissy has got it!

  • morrissey=god.

    end of story.

  • this is actually a very clever video if you think about it.

  • Tnanks, treble777. Sorry; what did I miss, that Mozza is a self-obsessed (non-poetice) narcissistic twat! I thought I knew that already!!!

  • as much as I should probably detest this video, he's definitely one of those people that has a way about him, I've watched this like 3 times now

  • i like his music.....BUT. with NO volumme,. Can,t stand him, only did this 4 a friend..No More...............

  • Great, the guitar though sounds bland.. alot of it does aside from him

  • I absolutely love Moz, but this song is not good at all and the video is way worse and I agree about the Ego-jerk.

  • Weeeeeeeeee Muuuuuust...Una Abraçada Irene...

  • Because We Must...We must..We must

  • still got that classic 'moz' sound to it (obviously, as it's him!)However, nothing too impressive

  • Well it is true that the last two records have had a forgettable alt-rock sheen to them. This is not as bad as the majority of the comments make it out to be. I was driving my car and then I broke my spine - that's how people grow up. There's genius there if you care to see it.

  • and there's genius pretty much anywhere if you care to look for it, once you're that famous you can do whatever you want and someone somewhere will find it great.

  • This song is shit. It sounds like some LA songwriter yuppee with no passion wrote this crap and got someone famous like morrissey to sing it to get him noticed. I can't Believe Morrissey could ever sing such bad music. The Smiths are 1000x better.

  • No offense to him but isn't this video a bit self-congratulatory? Or should I say a non-stop ego-jerk fest? Not to mention it really doesn't have anything to do with the song unless I missed something.

  • i've followed morrissey since the smiths(over 20 yrs). his official stance is that he's celibate, but i suspect he's gay and considers anal sex too "vile" to admit to. his whole thing is that he's a self-loathing ego-maniac. he writes lyrics like "me w/ out clothes, well a nation turns it's back and gags", yet i've seen him live 6 times and he never manages to complete a show w/ out going topless. for the record he uses the word "vile" (i have nothing against gays so,shut it)

  • nice new song

  • KInd of weird voice, but like the meaning of the songs makes you think a bit.

  • I just love this man.

I just started to get into Morrissey, so excuse the stupid question, but is it true that he is homosexual? Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against homosexual people.

  • morrisseysaid he does not like sexual labels but if you where to label him i dont know mabe bisexual who knows

  • Absolute legend

  • this song is very good but the chorus is a bit bleh

  • people fuckin LOSE their SHIT at morrissey shows

  • what the FUCK??..is it??

  • Grow up sadddddos i was listening to Morrisey as well as the Smiths when i was a nipper.

    Pure Class and elegance

  • what do you mean ?

  • morrissey is the best ever

  • 1978 cool

  • I HATE YOU PPL

  • Was this filmed entirely at the Hollywood Bowl show last year? I attended that show and I had no idea it was being filmed (and apparently recorded for a live EP). I'll be damned.

  • Love this songy,rly

  • no as good as his other songs

  • Who the hell is morrissey the father

  • Morrissey's security sucks really bad :)

Also ppl should show some respect to the artist for putting on a 'crafted performance', you wouldn't run on stage & tackle a ballet dancer in mid leap just because you really really like ballet would you?

  • Probably not, but sounds like fun.

  • there's too much love.:!:!:

    VivA mOZZ

  • Man, Morrissey fans are f'in crazy. And I am proud to be one of them.
