In this Ozzie & Harriet episode, Ricky got paid for performing at Dinkledorf's Market with a case of canned fruitcocktail. Ozzie and his cronies were involved in a fast gun drawing contest with TV cowboy "Tex Barton" (Ben Johnson) to win a prize for the local neighborhood brats. Ozzie got smoked by Tex, but Ozzie's pal Butch won the prize for the kids. Classic Ricky and band performance!
One of the great rock and roll records of all time -- a great production. And it clocks in at what, 2 minutes? No waste there. I have an original 45 of this and it never fails to get me excited. Burton was literally about 17 yrs old there. Ricky's best record!!
I've always enjoyed Ricky Nelson's songs and persona more than Elvis. The one/two punch between Ricky and James Burton was great. Good songs, great musicianship - and nothing offensive. I'm glad we have the treasure trove of clips with which to enjoy this music.
I guess I'm a bitch too then... cuz James did re-invent the guitar! If it wasn't for guys like Burton and Grady Martin, we'd still be in the dark ages of wound 3rd strings.

James Burton didn't invent the electric guitar... but he might as well have. Before him there was nothing and after him everyone was an imitation.

James Burton's became Rick Nelson's lead guitarist in the studio with this song. More of James with Elvis videos from the 70s.
