Most cars wont let you take the key out unless its in park. I think it's a Toyota Tacoma.. and they are availiable with a manual trans... if so.. it could happen.

Also I noticed as he went thru the door he turned and looked right at the truck... almost as if he was checking to see that it was moving... probably an insurance scheme.
