  • The first info I read on this was full of hysterical accusations, most of which turned out to be wrong. I did my own research & read many articles. I don't like it, I wish they wouldn't do it but I do understand their point of view. My objection is that these are highly intelligent animals so distress levels would be high & they are also listed as a threatened species. However I find it just as horrifying that our pollution of the oceans has rendered them toxic. Which is really worse?

  • Folks..

    1) We don't kill dolphins. We 'kill' whales

    2) Do you know that these whales have had the most amazing lives living free in the ocean?

    3) This is something that we have done for many hundred years, it's a tradition.

And 4) Korea kill dogs... Just saying.

  • Anyone who supports a culture that slaughters helpless dolphins in some farce of manlihood should be helplessly ripped apart by hooks themselves! Shame of the Faroe Islands!!!

  • @e3artistmanagement Do some research fool! They kill 500 to 1,000 whales annually for food, not for manlihood or some made up ritual, the same reason the Inuits of Alaska kill Bowhead whales which grow to 110 tons.

Ever wonder how many whales and dolphins are slowly killed due to bycatch in commercial fishing gear?

  • @ContrastNY Fool?? Really?? The slaughter of dolphins in this harbor wasn't for food. I never insiuated commercial fishing kill of dolphins is acceptable, either (no research needed on this statement....just reading what I wrote above!) Please point out the "whales" in this video, then let's compare IQ's (mine = 152, MENSA member, thank you.) youtu.be/bgUJQBCtHhg

  • @e3artistmanagement THESE WHALES WERE USED FOR FOOD! Have you been to the faroes? Have you seen where the whale meat is stored? All of the meat is used for food, just as the natives of Alaska use the Bowhead whales for food.

Disagree all you want, but base it on facts, and the fact is they use the non-endangered pilot whales for food.

  • Comment removed

  • @ContrastNY You called me a fool and claim that pilot whales are NOT dolphins?? google pilot whales and find out the truth - they are, in fact, part of the dolphin family and are only exceeded in size by Orcas. Don't let the name fool you. Read up..google Pilot Whale and find out they are dolphins. Just because they eat them, doesn't make it right. Because they've been doing it for generations doesn't make it right, either. We can agree to disagree.

  • @e3artistmanagement So I guess you consider a Killer Whale a dolphin as well. Regardless, there are 1,370,000 non-endangered pilot whales in the northern oceans and the faroese kill 500 to 1,000 annually, about 0.1% of the population and the pilot whales reproduce at 2% annually. People eat meat, and this is a sustainable way to get it.

Perhaps you should focuss on other countries such as Iceland, Norway and Japan who have commercial whaling operations targeting endangered species of whales.

  • @ContrastNY I believe that as a species they are technically a dolphin but in terms of behaviour they are a whale. I'm confused about your stats as the species is listed on the threatened species list and is also considered Data Deficient - meaning exact numbers are not known. Where do your figures come from? I have to admit that I really dislike this practice but I think the Faroese have been overly demonised as this is not comparable to the commercial whaling of countries like Japan.

  • @schnoooozie

    Pilot Whale population:

    h t t p : / / marinebio . org / species . asp ? id = 354

estimated 1 million long-finned pilot whales and 200,000 short finned pilot whales

  • beautiful! enough said!

  • This is so wrong. Most of the whale can't even be eaten because of toxins in the meat so most of it just goes to waste. They think they can justify it because they have always done it.

  • @swasomekayaker Where did you find these proposed facts? In your arse?

  • @themightychickens Actually, I did some research first. You can literally look it up anywhere. Can't post links here, but I would

  • @swasomekayaker Oh so you did some research, that sure as hell is cute. Let me guess, you found a couple of links from biased anti-whaling activists presenting you with with their usual bullshit to keep your puny mind absent from shit that actually matters.

NONE of the fucking meat goes to waste you clown, because it ain't as toxic as your so-called experts want you to believe.

  • @themightychickens Calm down, I'm not trying to offend anybody. But whether or not you want to believe it, it is true. I quote, "Chief medical officers of the Faroe Islands have recommended that pilot whales no longer be considered safe for human consumption, because they are toxic." The meat and blubber has too much mercury, PCBs, and DDT derivatives to be safe to eat. The effects have actually been seen on the people of the Faroe Islands themselves

  • @swasomekayaker I live here you imbecile, there's no effects and there's never been any effects. We have some of the highest living standards and expected life spans ON THE PLANET. You're quoting a single person who's suspected by some to be deep in the pockets of anti-whalers, not a team of medical officers (yet another fallacy).

How the FUCK do you expect anyone to take anything seriously that you spew out of your mouth when you can't even get that right?

  • @swasomekayaker And while you keep spreading your filthy lies about countries so small that they have no say on the matter, you just continue polluting the air and oceans while your corporate corruption ruins the internet and keeps MILLIONS of animals in torturous conditions while you sit on your fat fucking arse, eating your filthy fast-food inside your fucking concrete box. Please, continue fucking harassing foreign nations, that's all you fat fucks are good for.

  • @themightychickens I'm sorry if I offended you, but you went way to far and personal. First of all, I am sorry for trusting chief medical officers, they seemed like they would be the most reliable people on the subject. Also I am a vegetarian so you have no right to accuse me of "keeping millions of animals in torturous conditions while I sit of my fat fucking arse, eating my filthy fast-food inside my fucking concrete box." You're an ass hole dude

  • @swasomekayaker I know I'm an asshole, but I would still enjoy you fucking off :)

  • @themightychickens And I still think the Faroe whale cull is wrong, just like I think what goes on in the meat industry is wrong. I don't think you can justify it either, just because it's a tradition

  • @MyJanni95 unless god himself told u that, remember that confidently expressed piece of bullsh*t is nothing more than an assumption ur simple brain is making

maybe u came to earth to (1) eat animals, (2) grow a brain & a heart, then (3) eventually realize eating animals is wrong & stop doing it & start eating plants

could just as easily be true

  • a celebration of faroese community. like stringing up a black man in a KKK community. or a gang of thugs kicking the crap out of a homo in a dark alley. or an english 'gentleman' shooting deer, birds etc. more that than maypole dancing

trouble is, industrial food production in the west (cattle, pigs, etc) is responsible for far more cruelty. literally billions of animals i think. so only vegans can really be against this without being hypocritical

maybe time 4 all of us to change

  • @lancsFrogger agreed

  • so cruel!!! the dolphin's might thought you animals are human and you are friendly! there is no difference between terrorist and Faroe island people

  • lol wtf killing whale to be a faroes if you say so then you havent learn a fucking thing we take the whale up cut the throat and dies within 5 secounds then we share the food but you need to be faroes to think that the food tastes good.

  • It is REALLY annoying that the subtitles have been removed.

  • Sign the petition against the whale murders in the Faroe Islands!!! Do it NOW!!! Together we END this meaningless slaughter, which has no place at all in modern days!!!!!!

  • @POTSkyline How you got that out of what I said would take the mind of a retard to explain. But I guess you can only treat ignorance with ignorance. So... over to you.

  • the bigger problem here is the levels of heavy metals in the Oceans... I'm not pointing any fingers here, India and China, but we need better restrictions on factory waste

  • @POTSkyline Wow. First of all, you really need to get a grip of grammar if you want to make a point through writing. As regards my "mama's pussy" - I guess that's your retarded insinuation of "my mother's vagina"? Well, I ate your "mama's" pussy last night, but it was full of disease, so I ended up fucking you're whole family up the "ass". That's about as low as I can go in your level, to be honest. It kind of sucks down in your retarded, plebeian world, huh? Oh yeah, and - go fuck yourself.

  • @POTSkyline you beat the stale piss outta fag roes there?..next time make a video of it..i need a good laugh LOL

  • Once again, the link to the petition (for all to see): w w w. theanimalrescuesite. com/clickToGive/campaign.faces?siteId=3&campaign=FaroeIslandWhaleSlaughter We're sending it all over the internet in every way. Progress update: 15,161

  • To date 9/19/2011, Petition... Goal: 30,000 • Progress: 14,946

Below is an example of a letter to the Faroe Islands Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen.

  • "Tell Faroe prime minister to end to the savagery! A massacre takes place every year in the Faroe Islands. 1000s of pilot whales are lured to the shallows of the island bay. The hunters slaughter the whales. They slash the whales' outer skin until the waters run red with blood. The massacre dates back to the 1500s and people come to watch the it, then eat the meat. What's not eaten is thrown away. They're decimating a species of precious mammals and it must be stopped. End this barbaric event."

  • @POTSkyline What a disgusting person you are. If you care about whales/dolphins so much, go and help poor 25 captive dolphins getting trained for your country's marine park. They need your help mate.

  • More important thing to consider within your own country (America, Australia etc)

"Livestock production alone contributes to 18 percent of the global warming effect—more than the emissions from every single car, train, and plane on the planet. Though livestock production is responsible for 37 percent of methane and 65 percent of nitrous oxide, both potent greenhouse gases." Faroese are doing nothing wrong. Japanese whaling in Southern Ocean is the only thing to be stopped. ... I think.

  • "When we arrive, the killers take notice. This point was made very clear most recently with Operation Ferocious Isles as zero whales were killed during our time in the Faroe Islands. Now two of the Sea Shepherd ships, the Steve Irwin and the Brigitte Bardot, are returning to Great Britain to begin preparations for our next Antarctic Whale Defense Campaign in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. We will be ready to once again intervene against illegal japanese whaling." -Paul Watson

  • To the Faroese....I went to your country in 2008. i was amazed at the care you took in regards to the culling of the pilot whale herds. I got to eat blubber and whale meat (sorry, disgusting to me), but I know how important the whale meat is to your culture. Please forgive the ignorant people who post insults to you on here, Particularly of us 'westerners'' (I am from the US) who have no idea of the centuries-old history of what you do. As someone who's seen both sides, i am on yours, always.

  • "Although this practice dates back to the 1500s and is steeped in tradition, it cannot be ignored that the Faroese are destroying the population of these precious ocean creatures with this barbaric event. The massacre has become a spectator sport and after the feast, the leftover meat is simply thrown away.

Sign a petition imploring Faroe Islands Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen to end the whale brutality." w w w. theanimalrescuesite. com

  • @info145 hahaha u just a troll u dont even know what u are talking about just leave it alone and u will not be humiliated more that u already are

  • @TheDaniiboy

"Most Faroese consider the hunt an important part of their culture and history. Animal rights groups criticize the hunt as being cruel and unnecessary. As of the end of November 2008 the chief medical officers of the Faroe Islands have recommended that pilot whales no longer be considered fit for human consumption because of the levels of toxins in the whales." w w w newscientist. com/article/dn16159-faroe-islanders-told-to-stop-eating-toxic-whales. html

  • @info145 FUCK THEM they cannot deside that we cannot do what we have done for 1000years because they dont like it if u just knew a little about the faroe u will know that we dont hunt them we just take does who come swimming pass our cities. and that we kill 0.1% each year and they reproduce 1,8%. its waste of our time and yours, go helping the cows or the pigs.

  • @TheDaniiboy

They must be FORCED to stop killing our Whales! Whales belong to the world, not just to one or two countries

  • @info145 hey hey the whales belong to no one u cant own a whale, we have done its for 1000years and the whales are still here and there are still milions of them. !! i bet u dont even know what the name for the whales we hunts !

  • @TheDaniiboy

Are you foolish enough to think an activist such as myself wouldn't know the name of the Long-finned Pilot Whales?

OK here's one for you: By exactly what law do the Sea Shepherds enforce to legally combat whaling?

  • @info145 there are non they say that they are enforcing international law on the high seas when no one else is prepared to step up to the plate. but It's not a very strong legal argument. because the police just don't accept that the law can be enforced in a kind of self-help or private way on the high seas. , the police don't really accept vigilantes in there or ours society enforcing the law. We don't accept vigilantes on the high seas enforcing the law

  • @TheDaniiboy

Yup, you're just as stupid as i thought...

The Sea Shepherds prevent the whaling under UN GA RES 37/7: World Charter for Nature, which specifically allows persons or associations to take action

  • @TheDaniiboy oka here in your law does it stand that if only excessive and destroying of natural habitats, we do non of goes things. if u not have noticed. and the balance is as it always have been is just fine . u actvist just have a talent to exaggerate and twist the words to your benefit

  • @TheDaniiboy and in the long end u will lose , then u will die and i will die but there will still be whaling, btw ur claims of toxic whails is bullshit , if that was true me and most of the faroese have been death for some time now , ps i eat whale today :*

  • @TheDaniiboy no you wanna know what eating that shit DOES cause??..mental retardation, birth defects, and a slew of other things that even your own scientists warn of and all the proof you need is to look at each other but you dont wanna listen and be part of the "festivities" at any cost...you want comraderie that bad??..you aint happy enough walking around in 800year old throwback rags and boning your siblings as a past time pretending to be vikings you better wake up and smell the mercury man!!

  • Dear Johannesen, I am appalled by the whale slaughter that takes place in the Faroes. 1000s of whales are lured into the shallows, where they become disoriented and are massacred. Hunters drive metal tools into the whales and use knives to dismember them, killing pregnant mothers and taking babies from their wombs. It's nothing short of savagery and must be stopped. We can't allow these hunters to decimate a species vital to the ocean's ecosystem. Do what's right and put an end to the slaughter.

  • @info145 Do you eat meat? if not do you want a vegan world ?

  • @iekp "Each year, the sea around the Faroe Islands is stained red, not from a Biblical plague, but by the cruelty of supposed human beings. Hundreds of pilot whales are slaughtered by young teens in a celebration to demonstrate their maturity into adulthood. In this celebration, those not actively participating in the slaughter, are watching. They don't die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hooks. With each cut, the dolphins produce a grim cry like that of a newborn child."

  • @info145

We all know that's a COMPLETE LIE. They kill and use the whalle meat and blubber as a food source, just as the Alaskan Inuits do.

Where is your source that says "...slaughtered by young teens in a celebration to demonstrate their maturity into adulthood..." YOU DON'T HAVE A SOURCE BECAUSE YOU MADE IT UP.

  • @ContrastNY

    There's still hope for you!!!

Go sign the petition against the Whale murders!!!

    Do it now!!!

  • @ContrastNY

Google it. There's PLENTY of proof. OK, if it's for food, why is it only occasional and not systematically every day, or sold in stores? Do people there eat that seldomly? haha

    h t t p : / / faroes. org/cruelty.html

    h t t p : / / ethelsmith.hubpages. com/hub/Denmarks-Shame

  • @info145

They can't control when the Pilot Whales swim into the bays...

As I said the pilot whales are for food to subsidize the high cost of imported food. The Alaskan Inuits don't eat bowhead whales everyday, nor due they hunt them everyday, it subsidizes their food costs. Neither of them sell the whale it is only for food.

BECAUSE THE FAROESE DON'T KILL WHALES SYSTEMATICALLY EVERYDAY, HOW IN THE WORLD DID YOU COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THEY KILL WHALES FOR SOME SORT OF MATURITY RITUAL?

  • @ContrastNY

Inuits need to eat Whale, Faroese don't. The Inuits however eat ALL of the Whale and it represents more than 60% of their entire food intake. Inuits kill maybe 50 Whales per year. How many do Faroese kill?

Secondly, whaling should only be allowed to those who "need" it for survival...

If the faroese never ate another whale again, would they die off... unable to survive?

  • @info145 There are 51,000 Inuits in Alaska, who can trace their roots to 1,000 AD, The Faroese can trace their roots to 800 AD. 99% of the Inuits live in small houses, with electric, running water, cars, etc; just as the Faroese do.

The Inuits kill 50 to 60 Bowheads a year, BUT they weigh 70-80 tons on average, 110 max. 50 whales x 70 tons = 3,500 tons.

Pilot Whales are 2 tons average, 1,000 x 2 = 2,000 tons. HOW MANY PILOT WHALES WOULD THE INUITS HAVE TO KILL IF THEY HUNTED PILOT WHALES?

  • @info145

Cont... The Faroese need the whale meat/blubber just as much as the Alaskan Inuits. If the Alaskan Inuits never ate whale again, I highly doubt the US gov. would let them starve... The Alaskan Inuits and the Faroese both use ALL of the whale, nothing gets wasted that could otherwise be used.

The Alskan Inuits also hunt caribou, foxes, arctic hare, seals, fish, narwhal and beluga whales. Faroese only have pilot whales, sheep and fish.

  • @info145 when i first saw it, i was so shocked and broken hearted of what i've saw.. so i decided o read several articles and discussions about it.. now i understand it more..

  • @info145 Nice use of Wikipedia because we all know that its SOOOO reliable. In simplest ways of speaking. This is tradition to these people. I saw someone on here mention "why do this only once a year if its fo so called food?" well for one due to modern technology and refrigeration and preservation, meat is easier to store for longer periods of time. Im sure if there were none of this then the whaling numbers would increase significantly because the food would be rotten before you ate it.

Learn them when they are kids cause children learn much faster. its all about learning and experience, and when we learn as kids it becomes normal.

Maybe this sounds strange, but i only know off this, i have never lived in a city with 100k people before, the town I live we are 600 people and we are only 48k-50k in the faroe island.

so there is a huge difference between us.

  • every one that can't see blood without puking and can't participate in a waling hunt/slaughter, or just a random slaughter like sheep's, chicken, bunnies, a.s.o they are weak souls ;) and the ones that are against killing animals for food, they have been brain washed. its cause they have never seen, or they have become to old when they see it the first time, that they think its wrong and disgusting, its normal, its the human way of life, our teeth are prof that human are flesh eaters.

  • Nobody is making a fuss about this as they are doing in Japan over the dolphins. stupid hypocrites are stupid hypocrites. Hunting for food was never a problem. Hunting for trade is the real issue. As long as it is controlled, this is not different from slaughtering cattle for meat.

  • ALL OF YOU SHUT THE FU*K UP IF YOU HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN IT WITH YOUR OWN EYES____ SON OF A GUN!!!

  • All those protesting against Faroese pilot whale hunt - except vegetarians and vegans, whom I easily can understand - are primitive "politically correct" hypocrats, nothing more, nothing less than that.

No animal is better or worse than any other!

  • I don't want to comment on this issue. But I wanna to say, is that does anyone care about the pollution? How many whales and dolphins dead from pollution? I bet 10 times more than this!! Yet, nobody cares. And is it ok from the Faroese not to kill them, but let whales having mercury inside their body?

    P.S: That's the reason I don't like SSCS.

  • What I can't stand is that, is this arguing never ends. And some so call themselves 'civilized' and saying others suck, I thought a real 'civilized' would have good basic manners? NOT LIKE SOME 'CIVILIZED' PEOPLE INSULTING OTHER NATIONS AND FAMILY, CALLING OTHERS PUSSIES AND MORONS............

  • @tasteegold777 OMG. If we didn't like it we would not eat it!

  • @imsoboard100 what?

  • I respect their traditions, but yuck all of that blood in the sea...

  • @tasteegold777 ohh yeah right .. did you swim whith them. LOL. pilot wales are very dangerous to swim with. Pilot wales are not like dolphins. They do not eat Human's but they can be dangerous because when you swim with them, they think that you are playing with them AND then they grab your leg and then your leg's falls off.

  • @SannaNinan That makes a lot of sense! Pilot whales are dangerous you say! Thats one of the dumbest comments any inbred faroese has said yet! The poor whales are harassed to shore by motor boats then attacked by madmen who stick hooks in their lungs pull them ashore and start stabbing them to death! The only danger is one of the madmen stubbing a toe or twisting an ankle while jumping up and down in neck high bloody water!
