My ears may be failing me, but I believe this is a commercial recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Anton Guadagno. As exquisite as this is, nothing can match her complete recording with Muti (1974). Brava!
really good. i have come late in my appreciation of this lady. her voice is lovely here, almost etherial in places. was she always 'well built' ? or did this come with age. she must have had problems some opratic heroines. this is a genuine enquiry and not meant to be offensive, anyway 5++++
There is/was always this argument about sopranos and whether they need to be 'well built' in order to achieve a good sound, or if their 'size' doesn't matter. She certainly still looks great and unlike Callas, she stayed the same (as far as 'size' is concerned) and has a wonderful voice. Let's just stick to the voice, not to the body, as some people would say. ^^ 5*
Agreed! There is entirely too much focus, especially these days, on the appearance and size of opera singers. Women feel this more severely than men, but it affects both genders and it's based on foolishness.
Oh sweet Lord that C is heavenly. I just wish the orchestra hadn't covered it up. UGH.

has anyone else noticed that she only takes one short breath at 5:48 before going into 'non mai piu' and the high C? Breath control like wow.

@Greatheil It is the most beautiful, amazing ascention to high
C I've ever heard. The hairs on my arms and neck stood up. It
took my breath away. Monserrat outdid even herself. If this doesn't
make the angels cry, nothing will.

Brava!!!! I love Caballé.
Beautiful rendition, one of the best I've heard.
Completely fulfills Aida's character.

@aaronsande It is a societal prejudice that has led to the death
of women - singers or not - by self-imposed starvation to the
extreme wherein the body uses muscle tissue, including the
heart muscle for energy - and causes death. It was given the
name anorexia. It is a mental disease of unknown in centuries
past. If you starved to death it was because of real famine.
