  • William Lane Craig has BETTER ARGUMENTS for the EXISTENCE OF GOD.

  • ahahaha 1:32 , they call scientists = "terrorists" now.... and they say that our questions should just STOP when it comes to God....

    YEAH - like that's new....

religious people act and think the same way as they did many centuries ago.... i guess they just forgot to evolve....

  • I also find it funny that as science advances more and more, the defense of God constantly has to redefine him in such a way that he resembles less and less of what Christians, Jews, and Muslims think he is. And yet they still rely on such shabby arguments, like the Kalam Cosmological argument, to prove their specific God, when it proves nothing of the sort. As science advances, God becomes smaller and smaller, and has fewer places to hide.

  • To say that God is what is behind quantum mechanics and the laws of gravitation, is not an explanation or proof of anything. In fact it is the biggest non-explanation there is. An explanation cannot suffer from the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS as the thing it is trying to explain. To say God explains the universe only pushes the question of existence back a step. How does God exist? If you say he just is, why can’t we put forth the same intellectually lazy answer about the universe? The universe just is!

  • Concerning the Pope's admonishment to Hawking to "not look into the beginning of the universe" - this is a blatant admission that the pope is covering up for a lie. If you are confident that God is behind the universe's creation, then why warn someone to not look into it? After all, any investigation would reveal God is behind it, if he truly is there. So in other words the Pope was saying, "don't mind what’s behind the curtain, because our beliefs are all smoke and mirrors."

  • Books like this are bad because they might make people think which might make them realize how ridiculous religion and the Bible are so they might stop contributing to the church.

  • So, It's actually...

'They (the religious) can make whatever comments they like but when they assume, rather in a Taliban-like way, that they have all the answers then I do feel uncomfortable.'

  • Watch as the religious back-peddle into nothing.

Comparing the Taliban to Scientists is just another slanderous step of the ever desperate realm of the delusional.

  • @THEHARMONIKZ It is also a stretch to take a disparate example and foist it into this conversation. You are being truly disingenuous.

  • @TheOpprobrium -and that comment proves my point.

Because Hawking made that point religious nutbags felt it necessary to-yet again step in and blather on about a subject they no nothing about.I watched the debate with the Rabbi and watched him freely admit he knows nothing about God but felt he must make a Televised response.

The Ideas of God/Gods are dying like all the others before them.

  • LOL, the archbishop of canterbury and the chief rabbi have issued rebuttles? Somehow I doubt they've debunked the work of these scientists. F-cking idiots.

  • I don't know if I am happy about that. I have been dispelling those religious people who say the stupid "an atheist believes the universe came from nothing" bullshit. Now, people are going to really think that. Simply, as an atheist I can say. We don't know yet, stop getting bent out of shape, we might know eventually.

  • I'm guessing he's got tired in life of having to say "It's pronounced Melodinov"

  • No Keith... there was no magic man there

  • Fucking religious cunts never ceases to annoy me.

  • It's so infuriating how religious people always accuse scientists of doing what THEY do-saying something is the absolute truth.

I mean what the fuck? Why does this even have to be complicated. Religion has been around longer than science, yes...and that means WHAT? It means absolutely nothing.

Science has created WAY more miraculous things than religion ever did.

I just think we should be beyond this level of discussion already. Science is science, religion is religion.

  • Lawrence Krauss already spoke of this, but the wheel chair man will get all of the attention. Hawking is smart, but people tend to give him more attention because of his disability.

  • ...but at least the religious people who may have respect for Hawking will have their religious views shattered in front of them, if they didn't want to listen to Lawrence Krauss.

  • ...And here comes the throngs of the little people who feel agreeing with a book they will never read nor comprehend is currently relevent. Atheism is now seen as the haven for the pseudo-intellectual so everybody aboard! Please, the book will be in the 99 cent lot on Amazon in a couple of weeks and as always, these people will alter themselves in foxholes.

  • @TheOpprobrium

Don't forget the pack of little people that will dismiss science just because it doesn't agree with their worldview!

Only read a few parts of the book, but it truly looks like another masterpiece to add to my collection.

Don't forget: there's always a cheaper book. People actually give free Bibles!

  • @Xgya2000 Your reply has a cute tag line but the fact is Bibles are given out in an attempt to prostelytize (I also noticed that you predictibly did not mention other Holy books) and these people are looking to make a buck. Nobody has the true answers and it is all best guess. I am not dismissing science but proving the unproveable is difficult at best. Believe what you wish.

  • @TheOpprobrium

Well, I haven't seen a free Qu'ran yet, so I can't really comment. I guess eating the flesh of a dead prophet is more popular than thinking another prophet saw the edge of the world, eh?

I was just saying that as far as cheap books go, the Bible is the way to go!

For a moment, I thought you were dismissing Hawking's book as a "book no one will read". That was what I answered to.

  • @Xgya2000 Absolutely not; in fact I believe it will be well received. My issue lies in the fact that having faith and being a supporter of science is now seen as somehow incongruous. I simply cannot stand the phony atheists who blather on about religion without pedigree or reputation. Having faith in science (smile) does not mean one has carte blanche to bash religion; in fact I believe it diminishes your own view.

  • @TheOpprobrium

Well, seeing the long history of biblical refusal of knowledge just makes it look that way.

I know many people of faith with equal scientific knowledge. Some simply say that God is in parabols and must not be taken to the letter (which I agree all religions should)

Bashing religion for it's refusal of science is OK. Anyone smart enough to combine the two can if he wills it so. I won't stop them.

Science isn't based on faith (except faith in it's progression and use, of course)

  • @Xgya2000: Secular (or, scientific) faith is faith that things that have repeated the same way in the same experiment will continue to repeat the same way each time barring the discovery of new knowledge. Religious faith is believing without any evidence whatsoever. Slight change of emphasis on the evidence part there :)

  • @TheOpprobrium Well sure their will always be idiots with everything, but, I'd say people who at least take a second look at all theories, like many do, instead of going "lalalalalala" and plugging their ears.

  • Galileo is looking down from the heaven and laughing at us now. ^_^

Oh wait, there's no such thing as heaven....

It's still an entertaining idea though.

  • Religion needs to get with the fucking program...

Faith preserves belief, thereby making new information hard to get through. This is why Susan Greenfield and the like sound like moronic used car salesmen

  • Anger against science only shows the weakness of religion. They are mad because they are scared. period!

  • @gary031183 Anger against religion only shows the weakness of science. They are mad because they are scared. period!

I don't think this is a adequate rebuttal to what you said, I was just play devil's advocate.

  • @do0me0nice Maybe not. But what do I have to prove? That there is no god? I can't prove that he doesn't exist. The theist has to prove that he does. HOWEVER, when they get angry when someone calls them out, I say that it shows the weakness of their argument. I am not saying that it disproves god. It just shows that they have no evidence to prove god exists.

  • @gary031183-- RELIGION IS WEAK REGARDLESS OF STUPID COMMENTS...

  • @TheJoshJman It's youtube man. DEEP BREATH!

  • Once god isn't necessary, Occam's razor will lop of the god hypothesis.
